Thankyou and very good video. Very very similar to another one I saw who goes into a tad more detail and he primed with ignition at least 6 times and it worked fine. He also mentioned lubricating the rubber ring too. It's a 36mm socket and it's 25nm tight when you tighten it back with a torque wrench.
Perhaps if once you change the filter and before turning the ignition on make a note of when the fuel started to come out the bleed screw on the filter housing then undo it a little then prime it so it fills the housing back up so theirs not so much trapped air ?
Great video and thanks for making it. I am struggling to unscrew it though. The last person at a "professional" garage put it on way too tight and now it is impossible to unscrew it. I am thinking os using a filter wrench for the top part and the 36mm socket and wrench for the bottom half. Any other thoughts? It is plastic and I am afraid of it cracking. I dont want to take the fuel pump off!
Same - a garage gave the car back after a service with this leaking. I only noticed after a month or so, with the stain on the road. They denied all responsibility, bstards 😡, even though it's clear to see that the seal had been pinched. I was afraid of cracking the housing, so I went to buy another housing just in case, otherwise the car would've been off the road. BAD NEWS - after 4 months on back-order, Vauxhall cancelled the order, said they couldn't get it. Had to get a second-hand one, which looks OK. Waiting to see how this works out.
Would it be possible to open the bleed screw when priming to release the air?? Or would it just fill from the bottom with fuel and trap the air at the top anyway.
Great video thanks. Struggling with getting the filter housing to unscrew. Using a 36mm socket and wrench. It is impossible to unscrew it. The last person, in a "professional" garage, put it on way too tight and now it won't come off. I see another poster struggled with it and had to take the fuel pump out to get it off. I don't want to do this. Has anyone else any idea on getting it to unscrew? Was thinking of using a filter wrench for the top part of it and the 36mm socket on the bottom half, but as you say it is plastic and may end up cracking. It should be a straightforward job but it never is is it!
Use a longer bar for leverage and instead of yanking on it give it a bit of a whack type of movement to loosen it up might help 🙌😒 it’s a pain when others have been under the car and tighten it up like no tomorrow…
@@CAR_SOLUTIONS Thanks for the quick reply. I did try my breaker bar but still couldn't unscrew it. Didn't try hitting it so will try that thanks. Shouldn't be this difficult!
Mines is a 1.6 falls under 1.7 diesel so if your one is at the top at the front may need priming before the car can start back up sometimes more difficult then a filter that’s underneath a car
@@Illusionz-de2mo I had a VW golf once they have the fuel filter at the from and a MG Rover both cars failed to start after replacing the fuel filter ever since I have never tried to replace a fuel filter that’s at the front of the car but if you never try you never learn 😂 so worth a shot we live and we learn good luck 👍
How long does the fuel keep coming out before it stops and ypu can unscrew it fully to replace? I started doing mine today and had about a liter of fuel before I tightened it up again as it just wouldn't stop? 🧐
So to follow up on my own comment from 6-months ago. About 2 liters came out of my 1.7tdci J model. It would not start with the key turn method so I had to buy a hand primer to fit in line at the engine end before I was finally able to start it. Please do make sure that all the seals are fitted correctly or it will gurgle and whine as air gets drawn in and will cause surging at idle and bucking/lurching when driving. I found this out the hard way. If you're not confident do the easy parts of the service and take it to a garage. They will do this job for about £40-50.
andrey klim You can have a look if it’s located in that location you’ll see the plastic housing with the NUT I own a diesel so I won’t be much help to you have a look on google or a Astra forum
Tried this lol an Astra wouldn’t start, could not get fuel back round to filter. Following all online advice, primed an did key loads of times but nothing. Killed my battery an mechanic couldn’t even get it going due to zero fuel pressure, it’s now in garage lol
@@Rickym403 You need a starter pump located on the tour ... so it won't start. Priming until the diesel appears on the tour, then the return will start and will start!Good luck!
If you have a 1.7cdti.. you infact need to disconnect the fuel lines going to the filter housing and the wires as you'll need to replace the diesel in the filter housing you see so you need to turn it upside down. 9 ly in the 1.7 cdti model.
