Gen 3 Raikou and Entei Can Be Lost Permanently To This Glitch

- finding Raikou on my childhood pokemon leafgreen cartridge was a momentous day, I could not believe what I had found! Something about raikou entei and suicune's art on pokemon firered and leafgreen also really speaks to me, it feels so emblematic of the era, they're almost as good as slugma! Pretty sure the roar glitch happened to me as a kid, and I had no idea so that's pretty tough

ME!!!!
It's me. I'm that kid.
You can thank Crystal for removing Roar from Suicune's level-up movelist.
Pokémon Crystal is Gen 2, what do you mean removing?
@@galimantisbc they removed it in crystal they made the same decision to keep roar out of suicune’s movepool in gen 3 as well
@galimantis190 oh wait, it still has Roar. But only as a TM in Gen III.
My point was that because Suicune became a static encounter in Crystal, Suicune stopped learning Roar by leveling up.
Yeah Suicune doesn’t seem like the roaring type
Blatant Charizard favoritism.
rip to all the kids in the past who wondered why they couldnt catch their entei raikou anymore.
That was me with Raikou.
@@jesuisunstroopwafelwait,on what Pokemon game?
@@TerryWilliams-ys7px yes, I played LeafGreen
@@jesuisunstroopwafel oh,so you pick Squirtle as your starter? That's cool, did you had named your Raikou?😅
@@TerryWilliams-ys7px nah, it fled and I never saw it again.
not to mention that 4 of their IVs are 0 due to another bug ... they really dropped the ball with these beasts
they are so incredibly messed up on accident it's amazing
what do you 4 of their IV? there is attack, defense, sp attack, sp deffense, speed and HP, which 4 are you talking about?
@@Monferno123It’s a random 4 of those, IV’s are always randomized but some Pokemon have guaranteed values to where they have a certain number, but to a randomized stat
@@ucancallmekiy7578 these are not actually completely random. While HP and Attack can get regular values between 0 and 31, the other 4 will always be 0
@@silverden8706 Wow, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info
Roar in a roaming Pokémon is already evil on it's own.
Now thinking about it yeah it is lol
then next generation they said ill trade you a haunter 😁
Suicune doesn't have roar
@@ana4raeWith an everstone? If its that one, that trainer can go catch my gyarados raging on their house.
@@Matth3w-wilNOOOOOOO BRUH NOOOOOOOOO
I remember being a kid back in 2006/2007 and hearing the high pitched battle encounter theme only to see a Suicune come across the screen, completely unaware it could happen. I was puzzled and scared as soon as I heard it.
There was just no way I would have known.
These kind of things will never ever be repeated, and will always be in my mind, tinged with an aura of mystery and nostalgia.
I remembermy first ever encounter with Suicune in my firered for the first time when I was a kid. It was in the route left of Celadon City. The same area as the double battle with the Rapidash and Ninetales
I remember my first encounter with Entei right by where the Sudowoodo blocks your path. I was so confused I thought it was a glitch
The same happened with me but with entei! So jarring when you dont expect it
Happened with me with Entei! Good times
Encountered Suicune on accident at Route 1 training my just-hatched Togepi LOL
This glitch was so notorious, I believe it's even mentioned in one of the official guides for FRLG, which was a blessing for young child me.
I didn't get the strategy guide because I had the original Red and Blue strategy guide and the Yellow, Gold/Silver, Ruby/Sapphire guides. I thought I could handle Leaf Green as it was a remake but I was wrong... Bye forever, Entei.
Is it really a glitch if roar ends the battle? Think about it they run away in the middle of a battle essentially never finishing the fight but using roar says that if the pokemon is wild the fight ends which is similar to a pokemon fainting.
Imagine roaring so hard that you delete yourself from existence.
Only Dialga could even begin to relate.
rofl
This happened to me as a 12yo and my therapist still hears about it to this very day.
Are you serious
This happened to me in Leafgreen with Raikou. I learned later on about the roar glitch and I was so annoyed that Raikou was gone forever. Luckily I have Colosseum now so I can just trade them over after beating the game.
same, thought i was safe using my wobbuffet until it roared and disappeared 🥲
Soundproof ability helps too
Or if you have LeafGreen you can get an Octillery that has Suction Cups
This is giga brain damn. I'll keep that in mind
Or save the Master ball for this. One Master ball per save file and one Beast per save file. Just sayin
Trueeee
Wouldn’t Cradily lileeps ability work too?
Fortunately, you can just Masterball Raikou, and laugh at Entei as it tries to convince you that you want it
In the gen 1 remakes, you only get one roaming legendary beast available per save file... for some reason.
😂
Back in pokemon gold/silver/crystal seeing these in the wild was like seeing a real life meteorite
Fortunately, I got the capture them in 900 hours of playtime, then finally unlocked Ho-oh.
@@maximinimarq6254 or you just got a game shark
The last time I did it was under 60 or so hours but did it on a emulator to use a save state and make it faster to rebattle cause of the odds. But the first time a long time ago I did it without that under 100 hours.
To this day I remember the exact moment I first saw Raikou in my FireRed file. Sitting in my parents’ bedroom next to my mom while she was watching TV, I was surfing to the Power Plant when I randomly heard the legendary encounter music and my heart stopped…
And that why you get a master ball. But its funny how hoarders never had this problem since we try to keep everything and on that random encounter you know masterball is a must.
6 diglets…. Booom done
@@alfredodiego3920sorry I am new to Pokémon how 6 Diglets let you capture entei without the master ball?
@@marcobelli6856 it has a track special, the enemy can’t escape it has to fight so that gives you 6 chances to catch it
This plus the roaming pokemon iv glitch might make these the most broken encounters in pokemon
In 2008 Pokemon Fire Red became available as a rom on the computer, and let me tell you I no longer had issues finding and catching those darn dogs.
You used cheats?
Bro emulation is a god send with pokemon games. Can't see how you can sit there for ever on og hardware trying to do this not being a kid
@@robmalcolm8042I remember the sonic collection adding save states
I’m just glad this kind of thing doesn’t happen in OR/AS thanks to the dogs coming from a portal and never fleeing, as well as not having roar in their wild encounters. Definitely made shiny hunting Suicune with the intent of catching it in a luxury ball that little bit less stressful.
And even then, their IVs are set so poorly that they're not even worth using.
Same as the Lati that roams in RSE.
Are there IV set predetermined?
@@bronwaiththey have 4 IVs out of 6 set to 0
@@bronwaith Pokemon's IVs are stored as a, I believe, 32-bit integer. Due to a bug in RS and FRLG, a chunk of that integer gets lopped off when a roaming Pokemon is caught, so only some of the Pokemon's IVs remain intact and everything else becomes 0. I think this was fixed for the Lati in Emerald, though.
What's the other way to get the beasts in gen 3? Only events?
@@doomgirl5341 You can transfer them from Colosseum.
And this right here is a big reason why Pokemon Colosseum is a Godsend for completing the Gen 3 Pokedex. Not only do you not have to bother with the roaming Legendary aspect (and losing Riakou and Entei to Roar), but you can (if you so choose) also take the time to get ones with good IVs and Natures. I spent a long time getting a pretty good Suicune and Raikou in my last Colosseum run, and they are amazing in the Battle Frontier in Emerald and in the battles of Colosseum's Battle Mode.
On the topic of roaming legendaries I will say it was heart breaking when i was playing Diamond(the original one not the remake) and I got through the game to the point I could catch the lake trio and Uxie and Azelf were easy because they were just at their lake, but Mesprit was a roaming legendary once you went to it’s cave. So I finally tracked it down and used my master ball to catch it(I caught Dialga turn one in a premier ball, so I still had it!), only to basically immediately find and trigger Cresselia which also was a roaming legend…
I was in 7th grade when FRLG dropped and was completely oblivious to the beasts being in the game. Raikou out of nowhere, and I panicked and used the master ball because I was so excited. I also had one of the other games so I ended up doing the three playthroughs when I confirmed with my friends who had a different starter that it happened to them too. I'd save when I cornered them in a route and just soft reset until I caught them. Thank goodness I never encountered that glitch. I could never do three playthroughs of any pokemon game back to back again these days, but back then I didn't have many other games and I hadn't completed the national dex either. Gen 4 after this in high school was a trip lol
Note: Don't trade for a starter pokemon in Firered/leafgreen that has the same type as your original starter (i.e trading for a charmander line and your starter is charmander) because the roaming legendary thats SE to that received starter will NEVER appear in that particular savefile.
If I recall correctly, this can also occur if you willingly flee from them. I remember encountering Entei years ago by complete coincidence, but I didn't have the neccessary means to capture it. After simply running from it, the Pokedex refused to give its location anymore...
(I think I simply reloaded my game to my last save)
I remember catching Raikou with a pokeball without realizing how rare it was. My older brothers only allowed me to play after they had ended the games, so I thought most things were already done and dusted.
So I was chilling near Mt Moon, when I encountered Raikou in the grass. I thought it was weird, since there was a big cat whereas normally I could find only clefairy, pidgey and such, but it never crossed my mind that it was a once of a kind encounter.
Gladly, my favorite Pokémon was a Crobat that had evolved out of spite (I still remember where all of those things happened, despite being almost twenty years ago) with the move that prevents the other Pokémon from fleeing. I don't know if I actually used it (and I'm not sure it works against roar, I guess it doesn't), but I somehow avoided Roar and caught it with a normal pokeball.
I never realized how luck I was, and how I could have ended up locking the savefile out of a legendary. Never quite used it because I thought it was weaker than the rest of my lvl80ish team
This is why I always use the Master Ball straight away. I'm not stressing myself catching the roaming pokemon
In the original Jen cartridge game I caught the three of them, by tracking them with the map and use Pidgeot to fly
I was about to comment that when I played originally I had no issues tracking and catching at least one of them and my brothers caught them all doing the exact same thing you did basically so I dunno where or how or why these restrictions for catching them came around
The thumbnail for this made me do a double take because I thought Charmander was wearing a sunhat. Turns out it was just the positioning of the Bug Catcher underneath the picture. 🤣
I just got leaf green and this video pops up on my YT shorts 😭 Well good to know
Get yourself a Mr Mine with Soundproof! There’s a trainer who will trade you one for Abra. You can also get Taunt from the Rocket Hideout. With those two elements, you should be set!
When I had Silver back in the day, I only encountered Entei one time. After looking around some, I figured they were one-off Pokemon and you had to catch them immediately and they would never come back. This is literally the first I'm hearing that they could be encountered again
Fun fact, getting one member of a legendary trio per savefile depending on which starter you chose is not unique to the legendary beasts in FRLG. In XY you can catch one of the legendary birds per savefile, with chespin getting you Articuno, fennekin getting you Zapdos, and froakie getting you Moltres
Don't forget the fact that due to how roaming legendaries were generated in Ruby, Sapphire, and FRLG, even if you do catch them they have next to no good IVs, with only one stat IV generating normally and the rest just default at 0.
Now *this* is the only time you should use your Master Ball
I spent WEEKS trying to catch that bastard of an Entei, constantly having to reload every time he would roar me away, because I was savvy and would notice he was gone from the Pokedex
My question is how did something that simple and yet so detrimental get through playtesting
Did all the testers just have suicune saves or did entei and raikou just never click roar
10 year old me playing gold edition on my gameboy color and just killing the entei because i had no idea it was a legendary
If you pause the video at 16 seconds, charmander has a hat 🙌
I just love how the order of how much I like them are perfectly linked with Bulbasaur and Entei being my favourite and Squirtle and Raikou my least
If I recall correctly the Roar thing isn't a glitch, Roar and Whirlwind count as running from the battle and running from a roaming mon removes the encounter.
Its funny when you put them asleep and they still somehow find a way to runaway 😂
No one would believe me, but I actually encountered suicune first time in fireRed while surfing down pallet town to cinnabar
i remember first seeing the legendary beast as a kid by accident and it scared tf out of me
I thought I was so clever using mean look on Raikou, and then could only wonder why he never showed up again.
My brother ended a friendship over this glitch.
When I was a kid at a Christmas party my brother let me play his copy of leafgreen on his GBA, I ran into entei and immediatly ran through the house looking for my brother.
I never found my brother but instead found his friend who insisted he could handle entei in my brothers stead.
Later that night, I came to find that entei isn't appearing in his game anymore and I told my brother about his friend and at that moment my brother thought his friend killed entei and saved the game.
not to sound dramatic, but there relationship wasnt the same.
Man to go back to my sp days. I feel old as shit when kids might not even recognize the pre ds device.
When I was a kid I didn’t even know that these guys existed as I picked up a copy of fire red out of impulse. I was super spooked as a kid and hearing that pitched up tune as well as seeing Raikou i believe just creeped me out and then he roared me away as if he knew I wasn’t supposed to see him, I never knew until recently that I actually never had the chance to see him again though.
Suction Cups, Soundproof and a mon with Imprison and Roar in its moveset would also work.
I remember when i was a kid, casually meetint Entei on tall grass and telling my brother 'yo wtf look at that'
Haunter skill = mean look+hypnosis+dream eater very effective against suicune, entei and raikou
I raise your roar with accidentally poisoning Entei and watching helplessly as its blip disappears from the map 🙃
When we ever get time machines, I’m going back in time to show kid self this video so we can become the very best that no one ever was
I remember just randomly walking through grass as a kid and Entei just shows up lmao
I had the benefit of playing FRLG for the first time when I was 12 or so (born in '99 so I'd already played through all of gen 4) and at that point I was already in the habit of saving my master ball for a roaming legendary so it was never an issue for me thank goodness
I'll never forget when my brother was playing leaf gree just walking through a random patch of grass and found one of them, we were shocked, didn't even know they were in the game
This is why I'm glad I had Colosseum for catching them in Gen 3.
Entei the Lion, Suicune the Panther & Raiku the Tiger. Boy these legendary dogs are so neat 😅
Legendary cats?
@@Josh_StuchberyJust beasts. Lorewise it's implied these aren't even their original forms.
I encountered Raikou when I was a kid while playing crystal and was able to catch it and it just carried me throughout my playthrough
Ngl they made Fire Red and Leaf Green much harder than it needed to be. Like the random old lady having the Tea that you give to the guards I was stuck on that part for days until I overheard someone talking about it in the hallway at school.
Good to know having Charizard as a favorite Pokemon and Suicune as my favorite dog trio has benefits lol
>Never use Master Ball
>Beat game
>Grab level 40-something pokemon
>use repel and run around in the grass outside of the tunnel to viridian forest
>if they dont show up after like a minute, run into the tunnel and come back out to reset their position
>Once they do show up, use Master Ball
Easy as that. Hope the amateur lets player I learned that from like 14 years ago is doing well. Did this shit in like 5 minutes when I was 9 lmao.
Another trick worth sharing is for BW2. That dingy little park area in the big city has a rare chance at spawning Eevees, but the Eevees are like level 12-13 so just keep a level 12 pokemon out in front, use a repel, and catch as many of the little buggers as you want.
Most frustrating:
Mesprit in ppl: hold me beer
"have always been historically infamous" is one of the sentences of all time for sure
Raikou is my favorite legendary, he and Entei are truly the ones to save the master ball for.
Around 2007 I borrowed a copy of leafgreen from a friend and finished the game 3 times in a row to get all three and transfer to my diamond and I was never aware of that glitch, thank god I was saving the master balls to use with them
*I sped run my Leafgreen game 3 times to get all 3 beasts during early 2020 covid. I adore my trash IV trio, I used them in the Emerald battle frontier for fun*
Nintendo: but how are you gonna sell ALL your pokemon editions when they are virtually the same? 😂
Gamefreak: hold my beer 🍺✋😏...
*Uses taunt on Entei.
*Proceeds to throw a masterball.
I remember having diamond and transferring all my Pokémon forward from leaf green. Then I was like “hey, I want the other ones.” So I blitzed through leaf green 2 more times, making sure to save my master ball each time to catch them on the first turn. It was so satisfying each time to send over such an amazing team each time.
I managed to catch entei once in my leaf green. What really blew me away was that I had no odea it was even in the game, and i found it while surfing
I never experienced this issue because I couldn’t get into the dotted hole until 2018, when I replayed the game and realized it was Braille.
I remember finding rayquaza and kyogre all on my own on sapphire some of the best video game memories ever
Me: Uses Heavy Ball on first turn
Entei & Raikou: “Can’t argue with that”
In FireRed I used To Get a Haunter and Have it Learn Mean Look. I still remember catching Rikou when I was 12 🙂 Good Old Days
Nah, nah, man got gasly at the tower, trained it, man, and did not delete meanlook.
the best advice i can give is to just save right beforehand and then load up that save if they use it. or just pick charmander so you get suicune, which is my fav
So that bastard prof.Oak's been mocking us all along by giving the pokedex😅
The paradox Raikou and Suicune are an affront to god......
Ho-Oh specifically
Another banger video bro 🔥
Thankfully I caught Raikou on the first turn with a great ball which turned out to be modest nature, I wanted Timid but I wasn’t complaining, it’s IV’s where perfect in 3 stats, luckily being SpAtk, Speed & Defense.
I remember in Heartgold the roaming legends would basically flee immediatly. I ended up figuring out moves that would keep them from fleeing, but then it just used Roar and pushed me out of the battle. I ended up getting a pokemon with Soundproof.
I didn’t even know they were in the game till I randomly came across a suicune
When I first encountered Raikou in silver I thought it was a skinny cow🤣🤣 what a time to be alive. I was like 11yrs old
That's what masterballs are for.
Cool that the roaming beasts are set to he super effective against specifically the starter you choose
That’s so crazy. I had no idea about this bug back then. Pretty sure I just used a master ball on mine.
Joke's on them, I always had to catch Suicune.
Ill never forget when I tried for hours to catch the Raikou and then it just never appeared again 😢 that will forever be one of my favorite Pokemon because of that moment though lol made it feel extremely rare and truly legendary.
Yeah, I always knew I had one shot at catching it after the annoying process of tracking it down (always picked Bulbasaur). Never understood why it was like that. Definitely what you should be using the Master Ball on.
Wow, me and all my friends just assumed that was how it was meant to be lol
We either saved the masterball for it or save when arriving to the route where it is and just try to catch it firsr turn 😂
Oh that's why.... After all these years...
Never had that issue. I always had a pokemon with a quick claw out front that can use a fleeing preventing move such as mean look and then baton pass to get more opportunity to catch the legendary. You just gotta walk around for a while till you find one in a random encounter.
My life's savings for a monster with Soundproof and Mean Look.
That’s why you gotta save them masterballs, I remember I restarted my game when my cousin told me I fumbled raikou
I guess the dog was truly afraid of it’s bark.
This genuinely looks the only moment I would say “This is a Master Ball moment”, mind you I don’t use my Master Ball for anything.
Oooooh that explains why I never saw them again. I thought I lost a chance but I remember I had Colosseum so I wasn’t so worried 😅
Siempre me dió risa el hecho de que pueden huir del combate incluso estando dormidos jajajaja
Charmander in the thumbnail: 🤠
Max repel with a lvl50 Pokemon with arena trap, or mean look. Got go in an out of area to get the roaming Pokémon to spawn in your area. If it’s in your area then the max repel forces the wild encounter in an under level zone.
Roar u heard him...
But that master ball at the end.
