Agreed. I've been trying to find a video/review comparing the two but it's been rough. I think it comes down to if you think the extra 1" in size and 0.2kg in weight will be noticeable to you, get the 15" Air. Otherwise the 14" MBP would be best (particularly because with the sales on the MBP you can probably find them for the same price).
I’ve come here to find whether it’s worth getting a pro for the size I want. For me it’s either save money and get the 15inch air or go all out with the 16inch pro. So for me this video is perfect.
"Buy it nice or buy it twice". Solid advice there. I went for the base M1 MBA and regretted it. With just 8GB of RAM, I hit limits really quickly and can only have 3 or 4 apps opened at once to get work done. Even Sidecar to my iPad couldn't work well as I found out much later that it is RAM intensive. Will be upgrading to the spec'ed out 15" Air soon when retailers offer discounts.
I find that the larger Apple notebooks such as the 15 inch 2018 MB Pro are comfortable to type on when used on the lap but are not comfortable to type on when used on the desk due to the relatively long distance from the front edge of the notebook to the keyboard. I find it more comfortable to type when the upper arms are more in there vertical position. However, a solution to this issue is to angle the computer about 10-15 degrees.

This was a fun video. My thought process is the MBA is for the casual user. Any power user is going to have the MBP for the reasons you mentioned and many more. IMO, it is so unfair to compare the two because they are for different users and one is more powerful than the other & one is more expensive than the other. Keep up the great work! Movies are 24 fps... RUclips is maxed to 60 fps... and the M3 Pro chip is unable to run any AAA game above 60 fps anyway, so not sure if the 120 hz makes a big difference here.
Actzually that choise is easy; you want top of the line or just a larger screen. A more dificult choise is a 15" m3 vs 14" m4. Same weight, more or less the same price, about the same performance and you trade 1" sceen size 2 cores a few more I/O ports. I hope my iPad as external monitor will make up for the lost screen size.
What do you suggest? I'm thinking of switching from M1 Macbook Pro 16 inch to M3 Macbook Air 15 inch, as I find that the 16 inch Pro is too heavy to carry everyday. side note from me. a lot of people complain about portability but its kinda makes me laugh a bit a remember toting the old disk drive monsters from back in the day. Also I have the m3 air and found a used 16" m2 pro 16/512 just like my air but for 1300$ instead of 1699.99 plus tax. returned m3 air for the m2 pro. and I got 2 more years of apple care on top. maybe something to consider for those trying to justify the cost difference between used and new. it had a whopping 9 cycles with 100% capacity.
I was just in the debate between the 15" Air and 16" Pro. I absolutely did not need the raw sustained power of the Pro. Best Buy had a sale this weekend and I got the Pro for a $600 discount, making it $1899. The MBA 15" 16/512 was priced at $1699. This seemed like a no brainer to me. The screen on the Pro is noticeably better when watching HDR content. Even text seems more crisp to me. For $200 I couldn't pass it up. The MBA is on sale now also so it's a bigger difference in price currently but I am super happy with my purchase. Thanks for the video, love your content.

For that, I think the best is to assemble a PC. Macbook isn't the best for it. Even if you get the Macbook, you will end up training models on Kaggle or Colab.
People who work in this area are typically looking for systems with massive amounts of memory to handle large data sets so the MB Air will not suffice.

Nope, 8gb ram is just too low. These people saying its enough are idiots. I use 4gb ram laptop and its all good. Doesn't mean you should get 8 gb laptop for 1300usd lol.
No. You can get baselina M1 Air with 8 GB "cheap" for Apple, but for M3 considering how long it's going to be supported and that storage is apparently OK again - take at least 16 GB with M3.
I am a Graphic Designer and a Photographer from India who works on multiple layers in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom Classic, Figma and Canva, also I am planning to start learning video editing using Adobe's Premier Pro or Davinci Resolve and motion graphics using Adobe After Effects. Currently, I am using an AUS ROG Zephyrus G14 from 2020 with 16 gigs of memory and 1 TB of storage (this is the base model btw which has a Ryzen 5 4600 HS CPU and a Nvidia GTX 1650 ti GPU). I usually have multiple apps running and this is how it might look on average: 1. Photoshop 2. Illustrator 3. Figma (along with Photoshop on rare scenarios) 4. Lightroom Classic (sometimes along with Photoshop) 3. A browser (2 different ones like Brave and Firefox sometimes), 4. Apple Music, 5. Windows file explorer (4 to 5 tabs), 6. A communication app (like Slack or Teams) and 7. Notion. So now can you tell me whether a person like me can get away with a decently specced Macbook Air (like a 15-inch model with 24 gigs of memory and 1 TB of storage) instead of a much more powerful Macbook Pro?
It’s a simple choice, waste your money or get a MBP. 8GB is pointless in a Mac, so you need at least 16. 256 isn’t big enough so you need 512 or 1TB and once you’ve done that you might as well get the 14” MBP. Recently picked up an MBA, worst mistake I’ve ever made. Rubbish, it doesn’t do anything better than the MBP. Personally i prefer the 16”, and I’d get a max chip with 36GB RAM.

I would save myself the peace of mind and opt for the pro as it’s significantly more future proof especially if you plan on expanding into video
You want to have multiple decoders and more performance cores found in pro.
I use MacBook Pro 2018 & still push it to its max with ease!
