      Is the process the same for the 2002 or did you have any variances? Thanks for any help!

    Hey Rick. Shot in the dark. Do you know the part number or tool name to open the seal? (the special tool you mentioned was worth getting at the dealer)

      JimsReviewRoom The tool is called a "fuel sender wrench" and you can find it at acurapartssuperstore website, where you can provide your VIN to ensure you have the correct part for your particular model.

    Yes. The fuel pump is pretty much the same. The only thing I don't know is the access to it for a 2001. Check that you have access under the back passenger seat.

      Actually, I just called the Acura Dealership here in Oakland, CA and they confirmed that its the same as in a 2003, but different model fuel pump. Thank you for replying quickly and the excellent video.

    I have a similar 2004 Pilot with a hard starting issue. I can't find adapters to connect a fuel pressure gauge unfortunately. Did you have hard starting every time or intermittently? It seems to start better after sitting overnight but I'm not sure exactly what conditions make it hard to start.

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  7 лет назад

      In my case it was intermittent. It did appear that having it sit for a while would help but I can't say for absolute. One other point to make is that I recently had similar symptoms after filling my car with cheep gas from an unfamiliar fuel station. Fortunately all is good now.

    I have Acura MDX 2002 crank but doesn't start and the fuel pump doesn't work.i pulled out the electric cable from the fuel pump and it has 5 pins and checked the voltage in every one.only one give 11.5 voltage and the others give zero voltage .is that normal do I have to change the pump or it is electrical issue.thank you

      If the pump is broken, replace it...Problem solved.

    Is it necessary to replace the whole assembly as you did in the video? Or just the pump itself? Thanks

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  7 лет назад

      The pump is sold as the whole assembly. So, yes it is necessary to replace the whole.

    Curious, any change in performance after the fuel pump install?

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  4 года назад

      For my case, I did not notice a performance change. The pressure was mostly elevated but if it had been the opposite I probably would have noticed a change.

    After I took off the front bolts on the seat there is more bolts that's holding it down that looks like it needs a special tool did you need a special tool

    • @rickc3229

      No special tools needed to take off the seat. I don’t understand why you are encountering this.

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  7 лет назад

      Check under the back seat behind the driver. If you see a flap on the carpet you will have access. Let us know as no one has verified it for a 2001.

    • @DJVetz510

      So, yes, this will work for 2001.

    Ive read that its compatible with a 2001... And when I called autozone they said I could do the fuel pump itself that it was separate. I don't want to have to take it to the mechanic its gonna be a crap ton of money. Plus how do i know if it is the fuel pump versus the fuel pump relay switch? I sure hope you check these comments still haha

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  6 лет назад

      The “fuel pump” and the “fuel pump relay” are separate things. Unfortunately the symptoms of failure can be very similar.
      The “fuel pump relay” is cheaper ($40) and a do it yourself replacement activity, so you can start that way. Also, look for a video on how to test for a faulty relay to diagnose it.
      However if I were to take a “guess” at the problem I would guess it’s the “fuel pump” as they generally go out before the relay would...But this is a guess.
      I hope this info helps.

    • @samanthawilliams9232

      Well I just had a guy look at it and tell me its definitely the pump. He said its trying to but the pumps just not working. He however can not tell me, since the 2001 is a little different than 03 if I can get away with changing the pump or the whole assembly. Autozone said the pump itself can be changed but then another worker told me the whole assembly has to be changed.

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  6 лет назад

      The fuel pump is a single assembly. You don’t want to replace parts within the assembly. My recommendation is to replace the whole assembly.

    • @frostyworgz
      @frostyworgz 6 лет назад

      just to affirm the easiest thing to do is replace the entire assembly, however you can open the canister and replace just the fuel pump as i have done this on an 01 and it worked out for me fine. It was fairly annoying to line things up though and not break plastic

      Rick C how much would you charge for this job ???

    • @rickc3229
      @rickc3229  6 лет назад

      I'm a do-it-yourself guy so I don't charge, but my research found the following at repairpal.com..."The average cost for an Acura MDX Fuel Pump Replacement is between $503 and $694. Labor costs are estimated between $79 and $156 while parts are priced between $424 and $538. Estimate does not include taxes and fees"
