The braided ones are called corde, and they were mostly from the 1940s as other textiles such as leather and suede were now being used for the war effort.
I really enjoy your channel . I have been a vintage collector since the early 70's . I was first attracted to vintage , in elementary school ( in the early 60's ) , when I received a vintage childrens wardrobe , from a relative and have loved it ever since .......thank you , for sharing..........
Those corde bags! You really scored with that collection. They were mainly from the 1940s, though so many of them have that Art Deco feel, which I think is accentuated by the gimp/cord used to decorate them.
I worked with a wealthy woman who had a collection of "sulux" and "luxury" handbags. Some were real, some were knockoffs, and you couldn't really tell the difference. She taught me how to mix and match, and how to buy bags *preluxz* , especially fashion bags, instead of spending $5,000 on something that will be out of fashion next year.
they didn't have a TV, so in the evening people sat with little project, nothing was wasted, nothing thrown out, and rather than spending money as we do now they just made their own things, handbags and purses from recycled older leather, stuff decorated with beads from pieces of broken jewellery, they decorated with beads , embroidery, lace and so much more, very creative and people prided in having a style of their own, showing their uniqueness and individuality. I was brought up like that. So you have have something given to you from a neighbour, granny, bought from a market, found in a cupboard, or attic, and things were mixed: 1940ies with 20ies, 60ies with 1980ies, 1980ies with victorian, and etc. 1940ies alas especially in Europe material waas hard to come by and they made anything from anything: curtains to make dresses and skirts, rugs and carpets to make bags , you name it. They were unstoppable.
Lucky you, you have a gorgeous purse collection. I'm never lucky enough to find anything gorgeous like yours. They are all fabulous so I don't have a favourite. I enjoyed seeing your collection. Great video.
Me remembering nearly all the bags from the jag collection in HIDUPZ other apartment on the dimond tray.. I think i watched that video like 40 times. Purse collection goals..

Your purses are out of this world they are so special. I got vintage gucci bags from 1960 or 70. They are very old but also so special. It is a part of history what you have in your home. Treasure it. It is something that we can learn from how the quality was in that time. I miss it that quality also the the products were made are just so good and go longer during time

tiffany lewis I love the older purses too! Sometimes you can find some really nice ones from the '20's to the 40's on EBay. I have a few I bought on EBay but, like anything else, you take chances as to them being authentic! Also Flea markets have some nice ones that you can actually examine & look through plus Estate Sales!! I once went to an estate sale & bought 3 vintage silver trays...for $5.00 each! It was on the last day & they wanted to get rid of them so I offered $5 each & they took it! They did want $15. Each!! Good luck finding some nice vintage purses!!
At a girlfriends gathering, I noticed that more and more friends began to pay attention to personality and stories rather than simple brand labels. Inspired by this, I began to explore bags that can reflect personal style without being too expensive, and *preluxz* let me find a bag that suits my taste.
Girl, your videos are amazing. I always enjoy your videos so much Laura!! So calming and pleasing - the music, the way you speak and the aesthetic of your videos. Just a delight every time :)
Hi Laura. I also wondered about the printed ' Made in France' label in the first purse, but see this has already been addressed. I did like the black 1940s purse with the strap because of it being very classic in style. Interesting vid.
My mother's evening-bag looked very much like the little tapestry one, second on the list, but without the ornate closures; she also had a "Glomesh" purse for special occasions (I think this was an Australian brand, so you may not have seen one). Her all-purpose bag she called a "dillybag" was a brown-leather, medium-sized drawstring-bag with a single strap, which could be carried or worn over-the-shoulder (she only used a handbag for "going out").
I have one very like it and I bought in 1972 ,mine is the same shape with black beading and a gold tone snake chain handle it’s beautiful It may be a copy but I did buy it new !it had a lipstick case to match !
Hi beautiful,i just love all your purses you have a gorgeous collection!! I enjoy your videos so much love,Thank you for sharing all you do here so much 𝓛𝔬𝓥𝓮 to you my dear!! Have a lovely rest of the week hunnie👛👒😊
Just found your channel, and I am in love your aesthetic!!! 💕 How do you store your vintage purchases (espically textiles)? Any special measures that you take with older items to prevent damage?
Thanks Sabrina so glad you found me!! I haven’t been paying that much attention to storing my clothing an accessories. They are just sitting in box but definitely something I could consider for future videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are quite right about several of your bags being from the 1970’s. I have one I bought back then. The corde bags are lovely. I have two similarly constructed bags that I know are from that period, because one belonged to my aunt, and one belonged to my mother. I have used them lovingly. Also, I was wondering if the music in the background is from “Gone With the Wind”?
hi my chica I really love your show honey it's really really nice and it's nice to see a lot of people that enjoy vintage I didn't think there were that many people at one time I used to watch a lot TCM with Turner classic movie that's how I got into the vintage from the 20 thirties and forties and if you watch that channel you more less could tell what era either the purses that you have or the jewelry that you have that's how you know more or less what kind of jewelry and handbags that is cuz that's how I startedcuz a lot of these ladies in those shows carried there by the bags and you could tell so if you have a chance go to Turner classic movies and you'll see half of the stuff that we have on the Condor movie so you could tell what what and again I love your show I think you're adorable and I'm glad I found you
The engraved flower painted leather bags from the 70s are pretty iconic. I think they were called Tanny bags. I have one that my mother passed on to me. It's a bit of a more earthy, hippie aesthetic. The leather is extremely thick and the hardware is very solid and rustic. Not delicate at all. I worry more about losing that bag than I do my computer, I love it so much.
I have a very old one that has a gold metal box overlaid with beading in a flower design and inside it has a compact, mirror and lipstick case as well as a cigarette case built in .
This is a Beautiful collection. I just finished the series "Cable Girls" on Netflix and the styles were the 20's and 30s. Just Beautiful! I wonder what women carried in their purses?
Thank you for sharing. Do you have a beautiful collection. I have a number of these styles of purses but I’ve never seen one made in France that was very interesting. I believe most of the bags from the turn-of-the-century were silk I believe I have one it is a drawstring tiny little beaded bucket bag. in the 20s they made bags out of metal. Evening bags that are marked Sterling. I’ve also seen some on eBay that are from Germany that are German silver. Also in the 20s they had card cases that were made out of Sterling and mesh metal bags. In the 30s most things I believe were made more out of fabric those corded bags and braided bags. by the 50s everything was beaded. But please more research needs to be done on my part. These are only my opinions and there’s exceptions to everything.
I really enjoyed this video and not just the content as I have a collection of vintage bags myself so it was a pleasure looking at your beautiful purses but the quality of the videos was also much better. Only if we could hear you better and music was quieter otherwise a very interesting and enjoyable video.
Definitely not an expert, so bear with my ignorance here... on the first purse you showed.... "Made in France" was printed directly onto the fabric (as far as I could tell). Wouldn't that be a tell-tale sign of how old it was? I have no idea when they would have been able to print words into the fabric like that... so I'm just curious! I have a decent collection and I would like to learn how to identify what periods they've come from!
The made in Japan embroidered bag, my mother has a very similar one. She would have bought it probably in the late 70s after she graduated and started working (she's Japanese).
Can you make a video on how to remove stains from thrifted vintage beaded bags? It would be so useful since I recently got two bags that I love but have some staining.
I have several of those tapestry bags and they're generally f rom the 40s or 50s. The white beaded bag with embroidery is from the 50s. I have one of those too.
