I love my antique purse collection…I display them on walls around my antique mirrors so I can enjoy them..thank you for giving me some historical background. I originally bought them because I thought they were pretty and brought back a time long gone.
Such fascinating pieces of antiquity and the stories behind them are just as interesting. When you look at them, you wonder what kind of journey they've gone through. Everytime I visit a thrift store or antique shop and see these items, I often wonder the trip through time that these treasures have taken.
Don't you wish things were made like they use to be? There is so much attention to detail. I often think of the artists that makes the piece. So gorgeous!
I am really enjoying looking at, and admiring, your purse collection! Each is lovely in its own way! The damage to the fabric of the rose purse is called shattering and happens frequently to old silk . It's caused by tiny crystalline salts that are bonded to the fibers. As the threads weaken through age, dryness, and stress, the sharp salts act like minute razors that slice apart the delicate threads. The white "bridal purse" has beautiful, delicate marcasite work that would seem to indicate a French or possibly German origin. It could be 800 silver, instead of 925 (sterling) which was commonly used in Europe. Could the lining been replaced? It really seems so pristine and white for its age. The sterling piece is called a necessaire or dance compact or dance purse because it was just the size to have if you were out on the dance floor! I love what you can learn about history, the way people lived, what they found important and what they enjoyed all from a small thing such as a purse! I own a few and I have a lovely deco leather handbag that has a mirror, a pencil and a check receipt for a deck chair from a famous ocean liner! I like to imagine whose purse it was and what she was doing on that liner! .
This is more fun than anyrhing!!!! The Rosebud Lip Rouge and the Flesh face powder/creme is amazing. You find the sweetest items! And I love watching and listening to you. I can HEAR your smile even when I can't see your face😄👵🦋. PBS has a wonderful British show running on our local station about EARLY ROMANCE. I know you would love it💖 PBS website would have it or their RUclips might also. But as I've watched the first 2 episodes you came to mind🌹

When you opened the purse that you believe is a bridal Purse I noticed that the lining was not a smooth oval where it is sewn to the frame. This leads me to believe the lining has been replaced. I think that the discoloration of the purse and the missing beads means that this purse has seen much use and the lining needed to be replaced. Of course this is just my opinion from looking at it on screen. I do agree with you that it is a beautiful purse with it's own history which we will never know for sure. Thank you for showing us your lovely collection. I am always in awe of the wonderful antiques you are able to find.
Good point. The lining could be replaced. I know on the screen it looks like the white beads are discolored and gray but in person it is a clean and pristine as can be.

These are beautiful the detail on them is lovely. The engraving and the clasp and monogram on the last one. Have you seen bags decorated with the curly phone cables on old phones. I'd never heard of them until I saw them on RUclips they are very collectable.
Easiest way to find out if something is sterling or real gold is to rub a little base makeup on your hand and rub what you think is silver or real gold across the makeup and if it leaves a black mark it's real silver or gold. I learned this in my marketing class back in 1985 and it hasn't failed me yet.
LOL. When I was a small child my mom and dad had some marital problems. It seems that Daddy liked other women and would, at times, stray away from home. One night he was coming in late and mama was watching out of the window. He drove up, opened his door, popped a couple of SinSin breath fresheners in his mouth, combed back his hair, reached down and took a little dirt from the floor of the car to put on his hands, and came in the house. When he entered the house he immediately started telling her that he had a flat tire and had trouble getting it fixed and that was why he was late. She slapped him upside the head with a magazine and all hell broke loose. To this day with the mention of SinSin, flat tires, or magazines I think of my parents and how crazy our life was made by their disagreements.
My dad did the same a few times but those old cast iron skillets will straighten a man up (or double him over lol). Glad we find humor in our childhood of unusual circumstances (or maybe they weren't that unusual). 🙂
