- Hello lovelies, today I am sharing a brief history of women's fashion in the 1930s showcasing key style elements that were popular in the decade. I found all of my 1930s inspired looks from Unique Vintage and was able to curate a few outfits based on the key style elements that were popular in the 1930s. While I was researching this video, I happen to find an authentic 1930s dress from the thrift shop. I was so shocked that I found it because it is so incredibly old, and the odds of finding one are slim to none. I know that it is an authentic 1930s dress because of the large oversized sailor style of collar and natural fitted waistline. Below are some ket style elements from the 1930s that you can apply to most modern-day fashions to create a 1930s fashion look.
1930s Fashion Trends
Dresses and skirts were midi lengths falling mid-calf.
Evening gowns were floor-length and bias cut, think of the classic old Hollywood backless evening gowns still popular on the red carpet today.
Waistlines were at the natural waist and often belted.
Collars were oversized, or shirts had a large yoke. A sailor-style collar was also popular in the 1930s.
The shoulders were exaggerated with puff sleeves, butterfly sleeves, and caplets which made the waist look smaller,
Actresses like Greta Garbo made pants popular, and the high waisted sailor pant and wide-leg beach pajamas were also popular.
Large fur collars on winter coats were popular among the wealthy.
Oxford shoes and evening t-Strap sandals were popular.

The 30s were a wonderful fashion decade even though we had a depression. People just tried more to look better. I saw old footage from the 30s and it was a depression era rally for workers and they looked so chic with their hats and dresses and gloves. I think we should all try a little harder and maybe society will improve again.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love the 1930s because the clothes remind me of pictures of my Grandma who was in her 20s during the 1930s. I collect vintage sewing patterns from this era. One of my favorites are the long narrow skirts with pleats at the back of bottom. I love your black dress. It reminds me of Claudette Colbert and something she would have worn. I love all of your dresses. 💖
Thanks so much Rebecca ❤️ I love that you collect vintage patterns that’s so neat
I have a wedding dress from the 1930s and it’s in really good shape. It’s missing like 2 buttons but it’s so easy to fix
Oh wow that sounds incredible
I think you're right about the eras. They each have a uniqueness so you can find favourites in all of them. If I had to pick one, I'd probably go with the 20s.
I really like the trousers and grey top. I need to get out my sewing machine and make some 30s inspired trousers.
Thanks Annie, yes totally I love the look of 1930s trousers
That music and seeing those dresses made me so emotional and nostalgic, and I'm only 37. And then when I saw you in those dresses I started to cry. You look so lovely in them. I don't know why I feel so nostalgic like a 90 yr old would who has lived back then. Thank you so much for the lovely video. I really wish that the 30's fashion would come back. The clothing was so very beautiful and romantic and I find it hard to find 1930's style clothing.
Oh...I wish I could see the original black dress in the lookbook...It´s so beautiful!
I know! I found it so hard to film because of the colour I couldn’t pick up all the details and it was tiny
Love the vintage black dress! So stylish! My favorite decade is somewhere between the late 1890's and the 1910's, but the fashion was to die for in the 1920's!
I love the music in your videos! So beautiful.
I would like to add that anyone who owns antique/vintage clothing should make sure to let people know(or put it in your will) that your vintage pieces never be thrown away or dumped in a thrift shop. All antique clothes need to be donated to museums or to antique clothing stores to ensure they never get destroyed or lost in case anything should happen to you. We value these antiques. Other people see it as old clothing to dump. Make sure these pieces continue to get the care they need if anything happens to you.
Omg I know! I have already built up an incredible collection I think it belongs in a museum
Hi Laura. 1930's were magical for sure. Carole Lombard's style was amazing to me. Terrific video.🌈☺
Thanks so much for watching Jennifer so glad you enjoyed it
What a great find that '30s dress was! I loved the dresses, but my favorite was the pants and blouse combo. I also adore looking at ads from different periods. Well done!
Thanks so much! I know those pants are so comfortable
Great video! I wish companies would start making more 1930's clothing. I feel like it's been left behind. Such a great decade for fashion. That music at the end of your video along with you looking lovely in those outfits made me tear up.It's that old feeling... took me back. Thanks again.
My favourite decade is the 70's but thanks to your channel you've given me new appreciation for all decades.
Laura, You look so pretty in all the dresses you modeled.I love the "Stock Music" it sounds like an old movie being filmed. Great video. Cindy
Just found your channel the other day and I can’t stop watching! As someone who’s into 60s/70s fashion, your channel is a big inspiration. Love learning about all the decades of the past.❤️
Yay amazing so glad you found me ❤️❤️welcome to my channel
What's so great about the 1930s as well was the evening wear! Marlene Dietrich comes to mind with those sleek gowns! I think a lot of the glam of the 1950s first came from 1930s!
I love the 30s. I sew primarily 1900-1940s, and I think it is the 30s that I love most. The prints, the colors! Lovely video!
I love when you do videos of the '30's. I would love to see more
Beautiful dresses!! Only the first part of the Film is unsteady. Loving your mood.
Love that black & white wrap dress!!
I think your first instinct about the large print dress was correct. It has more of a 50s vibe from what I can see. 1930s prints were small and packed. I love your room. Good luck to you. Very nice presentation.
I really enjoyed this video! The 30’s have been one of my favorite times. You look very pretty in the dresses! Your videos cheer me up! I’m unable to drive whenever I would like because of my illnesses. I miss scouting the vintage stores. I bought a bracelet from Redbird Vintage. I just love it! Thank you for your great videos! 💕
I loved the 1930s especially when I was 19 early 20s. My Mom use to say we had to wear those well my Grandmother. I went to thrift stores got dresses jewelry, wore platforms, seamed stockings with garter belts. Real Gardenias in my hair sometimes 2-3. High waisted pants little tops Gabardine. So feminine xoxo make up penciled eyebrows, red lipstick. My brother called me a Thirtys Queen. Also wore lots of hats, short waved hair.........I liked the 40s and 50s too....Now anyone can wear anything, have your hair anyway I use to even put henna on my hair and do marcel waves with clips......wore mink..... it was fun I was young it was new to me....... smile💋💄👠

Thank You I got them at the thrift shop
I (think I) love the 1930's look! I love whatever the ladies wear in Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot movies (the ones with David Suchet). 😊 Those are set in the 1930's I think... if Zoe Wannamaker wears it as 'Ariadne Oliver', I want it! 😁
And beach pajamas. T-strap shoes. Oooh... 😊
The first one you try was nice and it look nice on you.i love when model the clothes.
You seem to enjoy quite a fabulous book collection you have a multifaceted grasp of vintage . ✌🏿️👌🏾🎓💝 books and all things vintage
You look so lovely in all the dresses. I definitely like 1930:s style. Beautiful

Those are lovely, but the larger rose-print dress looks stunning, on.
Your makeup matches your clothing perfectly! 🥰
Joanne Crawford and Marlene Dietrich are my favourites Icon from the 30's, their make up, their outfits were stunning👗👠😊.
I got from my grandmother some jewellery and leather bag from that decade, for me are a truly treasure, beside that they are beautiful and unique 💍👜

Solena Allen Me too. My mother was a young woman in the 1940s and in our old family photos she was gorgeous and used to dress so beautifully. I love the fashions of the 1940s. Very feminine and figure-flattering.

I always thought the 40's clothes were so classy and the suits were feminine and I liked how they curved in at the waist.
@@MsGoddess4 Exactly! Love that hourglass look! Also love the long loose flowing wavy hairstyles.
I love the necklace you are wearing
I’d like to see you pause over some images of dresses and styles I need more authentic 1930s
