I remember getting a job like this. The customer left a key under the mat and I let myself in. My boss said to change the shower valve out without making the hole larger. It was a moen. I turned the water off opened faucets including sillcocks. I used my torch to heat the soldered connections. Almost immediately after hitting it with my torch I saw a flare up of fire inside the wall. Somebody had stuck newspapers inside the wall. I had the cartridge removed already and had line to shower head connection pulled. A real WTF moment. I moved as fast as I could trying to use an extinguisher but I still felt heat. I just turned the water on let it run 10-15 seconds found the attic door and went searching. I dumped a pan of water down the shower wall then used mirror to make sure fire was out. I think I stayed an extra hour before being comfortable enough to leave after installing new valve.

It took a thousand "I'm sorrys" but I was aqbleq to leave in 1 piece. Yeah the address on the order was wrong. SMH

I'm a master plumber and I've had the same BS happen in the past and there are a few things you can do to remedy the "Cheap Bastard Customers" and my favorite one is giving them one last chance to pay me or suffer the consequences. If I supply the material and the ass wipe refuse to pay then the material goes back in the box it came in and I leave Hot 🔥 and Cold water lines open and of course the water stays off more than likely for hours until they hire another plumber which I intentionally wait for and tell him or her they didnt pay me and he probably will not be paid either. These fuckers need to be taught a serious lesson and blacklisted. Karma is fantastic if you get the chance to watch it in action but doesn't happen often enough.

Well, you just committed a potential crime. While you can put a lien on their home and make them pay, they can actually sue you for causing a damage and possibly for defamation. Not only you will pay for their attorney, new plumbing job, damage, loss of revenue etc, but also potential jail time. Do it legally thru the right channels. There is mechanics law which protects you, but it wouldn’t work if you make money under the table, skipping contracts and avoiding paying taxes.

Being a general contractor retired after about forty years, I remember gathering at walk-throughs with owners,Architects and other contractors bidding the job. During the pricing phase, I would add 10 to 20K based on things the homeowner would say as a potential customer. The architect would sometimes call me and tell me I was low bidder and have the job - and I would say SHIT!

@@PlumbingExplainedI bought that benzomatic exact torch a few months ago. I hate it for most residential plumbing. The flame is much too wide for anything under 1". I like a narrower much more concentrated flame. This thing does the job but heats up everything so hot around it that it almost un-sweats the other side of a fitting. You literally can't leave the cartridge in without damaging it while using it. What's your favorite Torch for these jobs?

It’s unfortunate in our field, gentlemen, that people are like this
We do our best to be safe, not only for the customer but for ourselves, especially this job being on the fourth floor
When applicable, I try to put service valves in to help the situation so that water can stay on to the rest of the building or that unit in question
However, that is not always the case as we will know
The work that I saw was commendable spot on great job guys

@PlumbingExplained unfortunately that happens too sometime,I had one of my best customers refer me to her friend one time.I went a quick temporary fix to stop a leak, gave her a sweat deal thinking I'm coming back to do the big job. Nope didn't get paid for the temporary fix or get the job.Thats the worst, your definitely not expecting it on a referral from one of your favorites

@@cardsfan1590 people don't think about this kind of stuff when we tell them our hourly rate. They don't realize how many hours we spend and we don't get paid nothing.🤬

Bought a new shower valve several years ago at Lowe's. Dude said they all now come with pex ports. Used pex lines at the ports only.

The first roof of the season we did, a customer didn't answer the door, so we got to work as we had spoken to her the day before and that morning over the phone. She came out after about 7-8 hours of work and asked if we threw out the edge metal and said she wanted to save it, it was mangled and covered in tar, so we did throw it away. She seemed happy with the new rubber roof and we walked her around it, explaining everything. She called the shop the next day and said she wasn't going to pay until she knows it's going to last, accused us of stealing the metal for scrap (it's paper thin sheet metal covered in tar), accused us of not even tearing off the old tar roof and just going over it with rubber, wanted to see dump receipt, etc. It seems like these kinds of people just want something for free.

There definitely needs to be a way to review customers for vendors to check into before bidding jobs, I guarantee that would cut way back on contractors not being paid what they are due.

It almost gets to the point where you have to get payment in full before you start the job so you dont get stiffed on the bill when the job is done

I had my electric system redone with a 300 amp service installed. The contractor asked where new outlets would be and the new 240V outlets installed. He gave me an estimate and I paid half up front and half when complete. This way I am a good customer and anything future there is no problem. He has come back and done new exhaust fans at cost for parts and $100 install. I feel that is fare experience isn’t free

The people living there probably heard the analogy that the two highest paid professions were brain surgeons and plumbers. Since both charge by the hour, one can understand their concern for time. The lack of water really wasn’t the issue…lol

      @PlumbingExplained  5 месяцев назад +1

I don’t charge hourly I’m a flat rate plumber and I charge no more and no less than what was quoted, agreed upon and signed on contract. If I was hourly I’d understand as well
