What an amazing gent x so gifted, humble ,he did the aids monolith voice-over for 1987 ad x i just fond out x RIP x he has such a chilling and captivating voice x
John Hurt was a class act!! what an outstanding actor but most importantly a great and Dearing human being. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but I and so many others were lucky enough to reach his spirit through cinema. such classics like 1984, The Elephant Man, Midnight Express and many more. He blessed us with his acting and spirit. Well, I guess The heavens needed Mr. Hurt as much as we needed him. thank you John hurt and may you Rest in Peace.
One of his most memorable performances was as Caligula in the TV show I, Claudius. Apparently after one of his scenes in that show the entire crew burst out into spontaneous applause.
John Hurt. A man with a voice and a look in his eyes that you, or at least I, immediately was taken by when I saw him the first time (sometimes in my youth in the 70s). His type of voice is so very seldom heard in the world. For me it represents honesty, an endearing vulnerability and so much hidden but poignant warmth, that it is truly missed.
Rest in Peace to this legend! You will be eternally remembered for generations to come. I could still remember his outstandingly gifted voice from Harry Potter and Merlin (The dragon "Khillgara"). It's hard to believe that time has passed on and now it is almost 6 years. John Hurt, 1940-2017.
Like fine wine, John Hurt only got better with time. I already miss him. Some of my favorite films were "Alien," "Midnight Express," and "The Elephant Man." This man was a true genius.
RIP John Hurt. you may be gone from this world ,but we shall meet with you in another world in near future . A wonderful man with pure and utter Grace with everything that he did. He portrayed such a class act in everything that he did and said ,whilst bringing true thought and emotion in every role that he played. John Hurt was one of a kind ,a special actor . We don't get them like this anymore. A pure spark of genius and wonder has been lost from this world ,but it has appeared in the another for whom we shall too be joining very very soon. RIP John Hurt, you were pure perfection
"I don't act, I just pretend". One of my favorite quotes. It says a lot about John's work ethic. He took his work seriously, but he wasn't obsessed with being Method. I also loved that he was able to make fun of himself. The diner scene in Spaceballs makes fun of the infamous "chest busting" scene in Alien, which is the scariest movie series to me. John Hurt rocks!
He was Richard Rich in a Man for All Seasons in 1966, Timothy Evans in 10 Rillington Place 1971, Quentin Crisp in the Naked Civil Servant 1975, Caligula in I, Claudius 1976, Kane in Alien 1979 and the Elephant Man in 1980 and has done many more roles since then - brilliant speech and well done his wife for suggesting it.
Yes ... John Hurt should have been awarded the (American) Emmy (and every other tv-acting award) for his matchless sustained brilliance as Caligula in the BBC "I, Claudius." My favorite of his deliveries of Caligula's lines: "Aren't people AWful?!"
'The addition to their imaginations' with regards to the Directors.. John Hurt saying that shows the true appreciation behind the structure of film. Truly inspiring.
A very talented guy...What a loss we've taken...Unique and brilliant...One who loved his feild/craft...One who put his entire being into his gift and gave it his all!He will be missed! Oooooooh what a distinctive voice did he have... Him and the also late great Vincent Price would always be known simply if you were to hear them before you seen em because that was a part of their greatness!Rest easy you legendary souls!
im here because of the merlin .. and today i was known that the voice of killgarah was not in this world .. make me feel really sad .. we will miss you sire rest in peace .. 😢🙏🏿 my apology if my pronounce is to bad i dont really know speaking..
2 years ago I had the chance to a ticket for an evening with John at the local arts centre.... i didn't go... I wish I had! r i p to the best of them all. 😢😢😢😢
The first production I ever saw John in was The Naked civil servant he was outstanding as Quentin Crisp, and his last as The war Doctor he would have been an amazing time lord.
If I ever get to live the same age as John Hurt, I want to be just like him... I mean, look at that old man! He had the same hairstyle as I do when he was in Doctor Who, plus, his glasses! Omg... Love it! Don't forget about his facial hair...
When I was a kid, I saw him in 'Partners', and I was hooked. (Hooked on John Hurt, not hooked on the film). Ever since I've always looked forward to seeing any, and all, of his performances. Amazing actor! :)
Became fan of his when watched on my childhood the animated version of Lord of the Rings where he gave voice to Aragorn. Watched about all of his films later on and he was really one of the big actors of history.

One of his most memorable performances was as Caligula in the TV show I, Claudius. Apparently after one of his scenes in that show the entire crew burst out into spontaneous applause.
This man is the king of actors. I want John Hurt to narrate my life.
Decent, modest, humble, dignified, very charismatic and beautiful. What a talent, what a voice.. he will be missed.
