I always adored his voice and way of speaking in "I, Claudius". His monologue about Neptun was great!!! Check it out!

I still remember his reading of The Hunting of the Snark, the quality of his voice was simply wonderful.
I love how everyone continues to applaud with such enthusiasm even after he ends up on stage. And he just goes "What do I do?" Great man :') XD

John Hurt was a class act!! what an outstanding actor but most importantly a great and Dearing human being. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but I and so many others were lucky enough to reach his spirit through cinema. such classics like 1984, The Elephant Man, Midnight Express and many more. He blessed us with his acting and spirit. Well, I guess The heavens needed Mr. Hurt as much as we needed him. thank you John hurt and may you Rest in Peace.

John Hurt. A man with a voice and a look in his eyes that you, or at least I, immediately was taken by when I saw him the first time (sometimes in my youth in the 70s). His type of voice is so very seldom heard in the world. For me it represents honesty, an endearing vulnerability and so much hidden but poignant warmth, that it is truly missed.
Rest In Peace. Thank you for all the great performances.
Watching him brings a wide smile to my face, i miss him very much.
I once stood next to him in the Coach and Horses pub in Soho one lunchtime. It was quite a privilege!

One of his most memorable performances was as Caligula in the TV show I, Claudius. Apparently after one of his scenes in that show the entire crew burst out into spontaneous applause.

RIP John Hurt. you may be gone from this world ,but we shall meet with you in another world in near future . A wonderful man with pure and utter Grace with everything that he did. He portrayed such a class act in everything that he did and said ,whilst bringing true thought and emotion in every role that he played. John Hurt was one of a kind ,a special actor . We don't get them like this anymore. A pure spark of genius and wonder has been lost from this world ,but it has appeared in the another for whom we shall too be joining very very soon. Rest in Peace to this legend! You will be eternally remembered for generations to come. I could still remember his outstandingly gifted voice from Harry Potter and Merlin (The dragon "Khillgara"). It's hard to believe that time has passed on and now it is almost 6 years.

"I don't act, I just pretend". One of my favorite quotes. It says a lot about John's work ethic. He took his work seriously, but he wasn't obsessed with being Method. I also loved that he was able to make fun of himself. The diner scene in Spaceballs makes fun of the infamous "chest busting" scene in Alien, which is the scariest movie series to me. John Hurt rocks!
2 years ago I had the chance to a ticket for an evening with John at the local arts centre.... i didn't go... I wish I had!

Like fine wine, John Hurt only got better with time. I already miss him. Some of my favorite films were "Alien," "Midnight Express," and "The Elephant Man." This man was a true genius.

You will always be remembered as a legend.
When I was a kid, I saw him in 'Partners', and I was hooked. (Hooked on John Hurt, not hooked on the film). Ever since I've always looked forward to seeing any, and all, of his performances. Amazing actor! :)

He was Richard Rich in a Man for All Seasons in 1966, Timothy Evans in 10 Rillington Place 1971, Quentin Crisp in the Naked Civil Servant 1975, Caligula in I, Claudius 1976, Kane in Alien 1979 and the Elephant Man in 1980 and has done many more roles since then - brilliant speech and well done his wife for suggesting it.
I could listen to him talk forever. Such a legend

Yes ... John Hurt should have been awarded the (American) Emmy (and every other tv-acting award) for his matchless sustained brilliance as Caligula in the BBC "I, Claudius." My favorite of his deliveries of Caligula's lines: "Aren't people AWful?!"

i love the fact that my favourite actor ralph fiennes was on eof the first people to stand up and applaud him.
Became fan of his when watched on my childhood the animated version of Lord of the Rings where he gave voice to Aragorn. Watched about all of his films later on and he was really one of the big actors of history.
