@georgejohnson1498 Merli is quite a revelation. I hadn't even thought of transferring these records - indeed I had forgotten what I had - until yesterday when a listener expressed his appreciation of a Merli recording I had uploaded some time ago. I therefore had a quick look and found some Columbias of Merli and others, which I transferred this morning. Who cares that he takes the aria down a semitone? The singing is wonderful!
@@vintagesounds3878 Ah, transposition! I have never had a problem with it. Better to suit the singer's gifts than force them into a problem. Best wishes from George
Straordinario
Agreed!!
1926 was the year ...first Turandot on stage.
1937 the first Turandot recorded for vinyl.
Calaf was Merli
Turandot Gina Cigna
Liù Magda Olivero
Goodness me! This is great. Never heard this better done!
Best wishes from George
PS: I am surprised this did not break the groove as recorded!

@@georgejohnson1498 I have a Mozart symphony waiting in the queue: but I am finding these Milan Columbias more rewarding than I had expected!
