I said it on the original video and I'll say it again:
The older Irishman's eyes, when you started speaking Gaelic, betrayed how he really felt about you.
THEN, he was so thoroughly impressed that he HAD to test you with an insult like "Go back to America!"
Quickly insulting him back in his own language secured you that high five which was basically a public display of affection from an "Old Irishman"... UNHEARD-OF!!

But they were influenced. In fact, 4500 years ago invaders from Germany repopulated all of Iberia and the British Isles, but for some reason the invaders continued to use Basque, just like as the Etruscans, that are Indo Europeans but speak the language of the natives before them. This explains why several Indo-European toponyms existed in Iberia even before the arrival of the Celts.
The true Basque without any Indo European influence is the "proto Aquitanian ", which is a language reconstruction that shows that words in Basque were much longer and today's version is a shortening version.

I’ve only ever seen the Chinese clips pop up in my feed from time to time. Now I know there’s a massive rabbit hole to go down of other language encounters. Love it.

Sorry, this is pedantic, at 4:54 when he says the price, it sounds to me like he says the cents as "sechsundachtzig" (86), as opposed to 96 (sechsundneunzig) in the captions. Love the video, and many thanks for posting.

It's interesting that the speakers of Yiddish and Pennsylvania Dutch not only speak a similar language, but are people who can be born and raised in the US and have a "foreign" accent.

Interestingly Pennsylvania Dutch isnt Dutch its actually german based, because it was german settelers who moved to pennsylvania in the 17th century. And so is Yiddish, its based on 9th century High German. I am german and i was supprised that i am able to understand like half the yiddish words they spoke!
