Yeah especially considering he has a perfect accent. If I heard someone talking with a perfect English accent, I would immediately assume they were born and raised in an English speaking country. I guess the difference is that it's much less common to see other ethnicities living in China compared to in America, Canada, Australia and the UK.
If you are living in America, there's no one that "looks American". A lot of Americans have European ancestry, but somewhere around 40% don't, so in America MOST people are going to assume that you are American until there's evidence otherwise. I've only been here 6 months, and recording my language journey... and I get the same reactions, even if I'm just ordering something to eat! I don't secret film though, otherwise, I'd capture some great ones, where you can see all the staff looking for the best English speaker to serve me... then I order in Chinese, and usually, the people who walked away just will start laughing, and saying I didn't think he would speak Chinese. It simply because not many foreigners can speak much if anything. I think it's a shame, as learning Chinese is so damn interesting.
Where are you Sean? I find both mainland and Taiwan amazing, fun, safe, and as soon as you speak any Chinese at all, get a great reaction, just like xiaoma and other youtubers. Seems strange in a way because in England, we never say, 'wow your English is great!' to foreigners. @@seanroberts381

Sorry, another edit: 7:41 I worked in Tijuana briefly and there is actually a significant Chinese population there due to expanding railroad and irrigation system construction in the late 1800s/early 1900s
Good catch, people tend to switch to standardized mandarin since dialects are so different. But how xiaoma speaks sometimes is actually closer to a Beijing accent, they add "-er" sounds at the end of many words/phrases! 😄
this last march I ordered chinese food (in TJ), in spanish. Was a little surreal. We had a good conversation. Taked about how long she'd been here, etc. Me (white as snow) from the states.
Xiaoma has made a video in Mexico before where he visited various Chinese restaurants and practiced his Spanish and Chinese together.
@@smileymalaise ive seen others do the same particularly in Mexicali which has a long heritage of Chinese presence. The woman I spoke to had been in TJ only several years. either way, very interesting stories.
I love the "donk!" sound you make when someone is so confused haha its soooo good! also love how they tried to rip you off then immediately change up and become your best friend! SO good! this is a superpower you guys have.
We need more videos with June! This was a lot of fun to watch!
Really loved the energy that Junes brings here. Please more videos with him
You both meshed very well like a traveling comedy show, you should make more videos together!!!
June is gorgeous! African and Chinese is a beautiful mix!
June is still under 900 subscribers, with this collaboration he'll be over 5k in a week. RUclips fame just around the corner.🙏
you guys brought so much life and energy into that elder man. he was acting like a kid again! i loved it!
Wow funny how the vendor tried to rip him off for the jade, then had to apologize when the found out his chinese was better then his own
not really, he was insulting him about not being able to afford to buy it. Later he apologized for it.
Actually the jade is expensive and common in chinese culture, so he just throw off a number thinking ge won't know the value of it and just buy it as a necklace
I been to China before and this is very very common on foreigners. You can easily get scammed which is the reason I stopped going there for travel
@@darksector1389 I am sorry for your experience. Things have changed fast here in China in the past decade and much better than before. Almost everything is fixed price
Really enjoyable vid like always. June seems like a cool guy. If you ever travel and do videos he'd be a great addition to take along. The more the merrier plus today you can't have enough people with you for safety reasons. Strength in numbers and all that.
I would love to see Xiaoma go to the market and speak only in a thick Beijing accent
i think he's done that many times in his older vids
Thinking of English being this dudes 3rd language makes this video incredible on a whole nother level
A lot of great moments in this video. Really enjoyed it 💯😂
This is probably one of the best videos in a while! The people were so enthusiastic and passionate. A lot of fun and laughs !
In this atmosphere of tension between ethinicities it is simply beautiful to see how different people with different background can interact with one another with true curiosity.
I love your channel man
Him moving to America at 16, but able to have this accent is crazy
Yeah, he sounds like a native New Yorker (even though he isn't) because the Northeast of China has similar accents to the Northeastern US. Both accents have similar sounds.
That's one of the best of your films for ages xiaoma. Really enjoyed that one! I'd love to see some more with June, he's a great character and brilliant on film, and that film had me smiling from beginning to end.
The reactions though, I now know from my own experience.
Same
Where are you Sean?
I find both mainland and Taiwan amazing, fun, safe, and as soon as you speak any Chinese at all, get a great reaction, just like xiaoma and other youtubers. Seems strange in a way because in England, we never say, 'wow your English is great!' to foreigners. @@seanroberts381
June is truly a linguistic master. Such a great vid.
I saw this guy on Frankie's channel, and I thought he had a great personality while talking Chinese 😂
Great to see him on this channel too 😁
Your guest is absolutely amazing what a beautiful man and he has such a humble and loving spirit .
Been watching you for years and I can’t said I’ve smile more to one of your videos, the vibes were amazing!
i love these interactions, so wholesome
What a lovely talented young man 😊 Love his laugh.
Those aggressively happy high-fives are amazing lol
I love how the Chinese people are so proud of their language and ethnicity. Always a heart-felt watch, aside from being really cool. 😊
Dude in the red jacket…it was so great watching your interaction. He seemed to really like you guys (BUT HE ALMOST BROKE YOUR BACK) 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He's very obviously half chinese, but I definitely relate to the feeling. No one can ever tell I'm half native.
Please do more videos together. Yall have great energy and he jokes just enough to keep the people on their feet!
Good video Let go!!! June keep up the great work 💪🏾😎
This is the best one yet! love the energy in this video!!!
Your friend was such a good sport about that really rude comment around 10:30 . The more popularity your channel gets, hopefully the more cautious people will be before making rude comments like that, knowing foreigner's might know their language!
This is your best video by far! Please include June in more videos, he has such a cool personality when he's bantering with the street vendors! This combo of multiple languages and 2 different-looking "foreigners" blowing people's minds is gold!
The old man was an absolute riot 😭🤣 this was one of the funniest videos so far!!!
I’ve been learning Chinese for a few months maybe 4, and I was so pleased that I could understand a lot of what xiaoma was saying and to a lesser extent his friend and the Chinese people. My daughter has gone there to work and we’d love to go out and visit her.
This is one of your best videos. Please, make more videos with June and Vincent. You need to come to Australia and go to the Chinese areas like Carlingford.
Please collaborate with June again. This was great!!!
I love how they're blatantly trying to rip them off and when they realize these guys can understand them they act like nothing happened. 😂
My favorite video here by far - this video is so impactful and important!!! Thank you both of you!!! Many blessings 🙏🙏🙏
Wow, amazing how close you guys became with a stranger and beyond just normal opening doors you get when they hear you speaking their tongue. Amazing. This was something even more new though. Amazing. June too is such a cool guy and interesting story. Thanks xiaoma
There is something about breaking down language barriers and making that human connection that makes me smile and laugh every time I watch your videos. Your friend is so genuine and made this video very enjoyable .
6:25 bro was so flabbergasted he didnt realise he was staring looooooool
Amazing attitude from June. Lots to learn from him about life!
