A couple related but tangent thoughts- 1- I like to describe one of the joys of travel as 'learning how we all do the same things differently'. 2 - It's interesting how different the world can be when you go out and experience it for yourself, compared to the world you're told is out there.

as a young naive Brit, whenever i've backpacked around these parts of the world, you make the presumption that the locals are quiet/introverted - but seeing these videos shows they are just same as everyone back home - very friendly and talkative. its jus the language barrier preventing great chat!

In 1997 i beacme good friends wity a classmate who was from Durango mexico. He didn't know English and I didn't know Spanish but we taught each other and in 2001 i went on a trip with him and his family to visit his family in Durango. The people there never even asked me where i was from. Cause my accent and vocabulary were very good. It only took me 2 years to be completely fluent, with accent and even jokes. I speak English, Dinē (navajo language), Spanish, and some of the Apache language that my older relatives taught me when i was little. 4 languages but im still learning
Watching these videos with the locals really makes me wish that America and China had better relations, both are such beautiful countries filled with beautiful and loving people.

Went to China when it first opened up. Went to a tea commune in the mountains where they had not seen people like us before. A lot of the older people in rural areas would call us tigers for our help in WW2. Everything was a commune or an institute.

Went to China when it first opened up. Went to a tea commune in the mountains where they had not seen people like us before. A lot of the older people in rural areas would call us tigers for our help in WW2. Everything was a commune or an institute.
This likely a reference to the Flying Tigers, American aviators, mercenaries hired by China to fight against Japan. Chinese people built the runways by hand.
@@CascadiaBC Thanks. Knew what they were talking about. The nicest most friendly people I ever ran into. Best trip I ever went on. Being over six feet tall I could see why the called the sidewalks a sea of black. Looking down the sidewalk it was a sea of black when you were taller than everyone.

Brilliant video. Reminds me of my time in Nanjing and Herfei, Annui provence when everyone wanted to try out their English and the kids wanted to touch me. Everyone is so friendly and curious. Natural smiles.
