One of my favorite parts of the Mass is singing the Gloria - it's all about giving praise and glory to God. We aren't thinking of ourselves, we are just praising God. It's beautiful.
Most of my life, I've spent not knowing what peace really is. What I've discovered is the moment I step into the Church, the world becomes silence. My flesh becomes silence. My thoughts silence. And there's nothing left but peace. That alone is enough for me in Mass. That blissful time of peace is beautiful. It's not why I go to Mass, but it is what I've learned is there waiting for me every time I walk through those doors. I'm grateful. Thanks be to God. Praise to our Lord, Jesus Christ
Worship is not about what we can get, it's about what we can give. The heart of religion is worship, and the heart of worship is sacrifice. The very heart of the Mass is when we offer up the Eucharist, which is the body and blood of Jesus, to the Father in the power of the Holy Spirit, for the glory of the Father and the salvation of the world. Mass is not about what we can get, but what we can give to God that is due to Him as Lord of the Universe. Thank you, Father Mike Schmitz. I'm praying for everyone here for us to have priestly hearts. Please pray for me!

Thank you, Fr Mike. I am sharing this with my big brother because he now attends the Assembly of God because when he went to mass at our Catholic church, he said, "I don't get anything out of it". Please pray for his return to the Catholic Church. 🙏
He needs to know why Catholicism is true because if he views the Catholic Church as one among many viable churches then why would he feel the desire to attend Mass? Get him a copy of “Why We’re Catholic” and “The Fathers Know Best.”
Fr. Mike--thank you for this message. I am a revert who avoided Mass because 1) I felt awkward/unsure what to do and 2) Did not understand why I was quietly overwhelmed with emotion at certain points (such as the Holy, Holy, Holy). Instead, I started using the Missal and researching on my own. I joined OCIA. I took Pitre's Lectio: Eucharist course at my parish. I read and re-read the daily readings (and research them), often re-watching my priest's homily as well as yours. I cannot imagine watching a PowerPoint, jamming out to a rock song, etc. This is where we come to Him.
As a daily mass going re-vert, it was a RUclips priest explaining precisely what the mass is, that brought me back to church, and ultimately my first reconciliation in 52 years. My prayer is that more priests would give this teaching moment at least once yearly at all weekend masses. I believe more Catholics would return as regular mass goers if they fully understood what their role is in the mass.

When I go I feel renewed. Even when I go to mass that is in Spanish (I don't speak Spanish) I still feel recharged because it is nice to worship in fellowship.
I’ve started reading Sunday’s readings before I go to mass. And on the way to mass, I put on Father Mike’s homily to listen to what the readings are about and get a better understanding of them. But during mass, I feel God’s and Jesus’ presence. Sometimes the Scripture makes me tear up. Sometimes during the Eucharist, I tear up. A lot of the times, during the Apostle’s Creed, I tear up and I’m fighting against a tear falling down my cheek. I love when Sunday comes around and I can devote an hour being in God’s presence.
I felt exactly like you and Sunday just wasn't enough, so now I go everyday! We are so blessed as Catholics that we can go to Mass everyday!!! I still can't believe it. Deo Gratias!
@@blaiseaimee7098 I just joined a Bible study group that joins once a week for the next 8 weeks and we’re using the ascension workbook “unlocking the mystery of the Bible.” Also been doing my own independent studying. I really love being back in God’s grace.
I talk to God and the Angels every day! I say the Rosary everyday, sometimes I say 3 Rosary’s a day! Love God, Jesus, Mary, All Angels and Saints! God speaks to me and is with me everyday!😊
This is very timely for me. Just last Sunday I left church thinking, wow, I didn't get anything out of that, nor could I even understand the priest. His accent and the acoustics make him so hard to understand. Explaining it the way you did makes so much more sense to me. It not what I get out of it. It's what I put into in. Mind blown, lol. Thank you!
The Laity are sitting at the back most of the time, go to the front of the pews and listen to every word said in MASS, listen to the readings and if the sermon was not that great you can still think about those readings while driving home. The consecration prayers to me are so beautiful, every time I listen to the words I am in awe who put those prayers together, they simply are beautiful to hear, only the Holy Spirit guided the man who put them together.
Something has helped me enter more deeply in the Mass has been joining the choir. Being a part of ministry and focusing on elements can really help. If music isn't your thing, I've lectored and that is beautiful too.
That makes sense father. It’s not about what we get out of it but what we can give while we are there. Thank you for this. It’ll help shift my mindset whenever I’m struggling
What I love about the Roman missal is the incorporation of the body in worship. We stand in praise of God, we sit when we listen to his word, and we kneel in worship of the sacrament.
Hey Father Mike, my name is Chris Call. I used to be in Ms. Helow's religion class last year before she moved. I just wanted to say thank you for that video you sent her to say to us (her students) I know it was last school year, but I just realized that I never said thank you. So, thank you Father Mike.
I go to Love ❤️ our Lord . Worship our Lord. To consume our Lords body, blood, soul and divinity in the Eucharist. In joy Pray to our Lord as my body and soul is one with Him. To Serve our Lord and His Church ⛪️ Needless to say it's one of my favorite places to be along with Adoration ❤
Thank you Father Mike for allowing me to grow in my faith and my religion! Since I have been in treatment for a cancer diagnosis, I have been able to virtually attend mass everyday, and each day I feel closer and closer to God! I value more each sentence said at mass! And now this explains sooo much of why mass is soo important! Blessings everyone!
May God bless you on this journey. I’m a year and 1/2 ahead if you and God was with me every step. People tell me “sorry” about my cancer diagnosis, but ya know what? It was a blessing. I am closer to God now and, oh yeah, I’m cancer-free. I just prayed for you, rruiz, for your strength and courage. You got this! 🙏🏻
I love the mass, I find it comforting; I listen carefully to the gospel, but once or twice, I've arrived feeling really cranky. Usually, it's because of finding all service sheets and hymn books have been taken...it reminds me to arrive earlier.

Thank you @AscensionPresents for this video. It seems I've been looking at Mass the wrong way - not what I get out of it. It is the worship that I give to God - at least, that's what I understood the Mass to be.

When I sing and read along and being part of the petitions when your engaged fully and listen to the readings and gospel. You become unified with the Mass. It's all about worship!
I call it pure prayer, or simple prayer; the simply turning to God, for literally a second, ten seconds, a minute, 20 minutes. It's all about receiving His Existence and Love, that's the only thing we can give. In all the ways.
i want to sharing my experience about daily mass. i ever think daily mass it's not important for me. when i join some camp about youth catholic, i should follow daily mass for 1 week. At there i found how beautiful eucharist for me. I,m so glad because when i doing daily mass it's not about what i want and God should granted all. But, with daily mass,, i open my heart, my soul to listen what God talk with me and i do conversation with God. That can be i closed with God (as who already create me). even i have heard time in my life an i doing daily mass, I believe God with me and always help me. So, daily mass or sunday mass that is so beautiful in my life, i can met others and get joy from eucharist. So Proud to be Catholic
Amen! I could not agree more with your sentiments. I have also heard people say, "I don't get anything out of it." In my opinion, it sounds a little self-entitled when I hear someone say this, though I don't think some even realize that's how it's coming across. Perhaps it's not all about "me" and "what I get out of it" all the time. It's about giving, like you said. Perhaps we are going to give back to God, to praise Him, to give thanks. Well- said!
Dont stop trying brother.. The Holy Spirit will help you! Children are use to instant entertainment, so they see all things in this manner. My suggestion as a dad who understands, take electronics away, take him to pray in the church when it is silent, or take him into a quiet part of your home to pray with him, or go visit a monastery...etc. When we learn to be still and know He is God, it becomes clear the idea of "boring" is a concept of the world. Peace be with you!
Thank you for your gift of speaking, your beautiful explanation of what the mass is and for your commitment and dedication to your vocation. God Bless you over and over and each and every day, Father Mike 🙏 ❤
Thank you Father Mike for another amazing video. The mass is for each one of us to worship God our Father. Your message is 💯 spot on. God bless you in your ministry 🙏🏻
ST. CATHERINE OF SIENA, in her spiritual dialogue, while praying before the tabernacle, said: “Jesus, you can love me with great love, and I can only love you with small love.” But Jesus said to her: “I have made it possible for you to love me with great love. I have put you among neighbors. I have placed your neighbor at your side. Whatever you do for your neighbors, you do for me. When you go to them, you go to me.” Catherine, full of joy went out running to a hospital to visit the sick and to care for them. She was full of joy because she knew that running to her neighbors, she was running to Jesus. Visiting them she was visiting Jesus. Loving them, she was loving Jesus. And she said, “Now I can love Jesus with great love!”
I remember a priest missing a section (not with Eucharist) and apologizing but even for them, it's tiring at times I'm sure when one priest has to do multiple masses. You don't have the newness of a young priest and trying to find a good sermon or write one yourself can take time and you might not feel well but you do it. Sometimes you just have to do it and feelings come later
I nearly always leave Mass with a huge sense of peace. If I am still feeling preoccupied or anxious, I do know I still got a blessing from being there. Yes, we go to worship and thank God; but each time we are there, we witness miracles. That should be enough.
As always, Father Mike gets right to heart of how to walk in to Mass. Today is my Son's Confirmation Preparation Class, I am going to ask for this video to be played. Thank you, Father Mike. 💙💙💙
I think you are absolutely right. The issue is people expect to “get something out of it” and feel like they’re missing out when they don’t. We are there to give, to worship, not to get. That’s the difference between non denominational/protestants and Catholic mass. My friends non denominational services feel like entertainment not worship. One thing that has helped me is I bought a copy of Peter Kreeft’s book Food for the Soul. It has the mass readings for every Sunday with a brief summary/reflection on each. I read the upcoming Sundays readings during the week a few times and during mass I purchased a missal to follow along with the mass. (Yes, they make weekly and daily missals for the Novus Ordo as well).
Fr Mike thank you for this video. I was a Protestant for 42 yrs with a grandfather who was a pastor, I am now Orthodox, worshipping at a Coptic Orthodox Church, and my wife is Catholic, so I go to Liturgy and Mass. I have learned, if someone is not getting anything out of worship, it is because they do not want it or they are treating it like a vending machine, waiting for something cheap. In service we worship, learn (take notes) and partake in the mysteries of our Faith. We go to service as a council of peoples, giving ourselves in devotion to learning and to worshiping the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, One God! The Church is a gift, a sacred place, and we need to treat it as if the Church we are in, is located in heaven with us in it. We also need to take a piece of Church home with us, so we worship there as well, as Christ told us, "When you pray go into a room and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place." Peace be with you! Christ is Risen!
True you do not get anything from MASS if you go there with no intention to listen to every word said in the MASS. The devil will play trick on our mind always while in MASS. The devil will put our mind elsewhere instead of listening truly to what is being said. First prayer before entering the church should be Pls God let me listen to you completely in this sacrificial celebration you called me to participate in, may my heart be touched by YOU. I love every MASS now, I love every word said in the MASS, it has all meaning to ME and I come to understand why the saints love the MASS. I am no saint but I do love every word said and I try not to be late. I get mad at myself when I am late, I respect God so much that I should never be late in MASS. If I am late I should be late only with the entrance song because the first part of the MASS is to recollect our sins for that week, I do not want to miss that part and then the next part is asking for God's mercy, I hate to MISS that PART BECAUSE that is the only part of the MASS asking God to forgive my venial sins that week, bad start for the week for me if I miss it. The readings is next to asking God for mercy, why will I miss that part by being late when GOD is going to give ME HIS greatest MESSAGES that week.
I have friends who take down notes during the Homily . It helps them stay focused and interested . My friend Ramesh goes home, rewrites the notes in a fair notebook and then he will write how the lesson can help him in his life during the upcoming week.
I've heard you answer this question before about 3 years ago. I NEEDED this answer. It's not about me, it's about God. It helped me so much and I faithfully attend every Sunday since I heard that answer. You also said that I should bring the best I have to mass so it helped me when my 3yr old was throwing tantrums😂. Lord, my children are the beat I have and one of them is throwing a tantrum but he is still my best so here he is!
I used to feel that way, too, until a wise woman explained her reasoning that if Jesus could agonize on the cross for hours to show His love for her, then she could show up at the foot of the cross for at least an hour each week to console Him.
I LOVE Mass. I think it would help folks to get there early, say the rosary and let the world go for a couple hours and worship our Lord and all he did for us. I go on Fridays, most Saturdays and every Sunday. I just love Mass.
❤ I would do everything I could to explain to every single person how honor we should be to be at mass not only Sunday because “we have to” but because we WANT TO. And forget about us and love Jesus completely like he does to us. So well explained again… touchdown Father 😅 many blessings to all and let’s attend mass with a loving heart ❤️ for him. The one that sacrificed himself out of love.
I always pray that I become a successful Catholic Social Media Influencer to spread the teachings and Revelations of the Catholic Church and the entire Christendom. I hope and pray the Devotion to the Eucharist and the Holy Souls in Purgatory helps me. St. Evodius of Antioch, pray for us
The last mass I went to, a child (9 or 10 years old) was splashing around in the holy water of the font. People were talking loudly before and after Mass, and many were chit chatting quietly during the Mass. The actual clergy were fine, but the behavior and actions of the other people in attendance made concentrating on worship difficult.
That's something I realized while going to a Protestant church. It was more like a self-help "don't we love Jesus" group. It's almost as if worship is changed to a Jesus fan club and self-help group. I've been back in the Catholic church for a little while, and the difference is staggering.
I’m on the opposite trajectory. I’ve been getting more out of Mass these last few years. I used to go because it was something that you were supposed to do. Then I looked back on my life and have seen what God has done for me and I feel humbled. I’ve slowly realized it’s not about me or fulfilling an obligation but how I can become an example of His mercy to help serve others. It’s not been a perfect trajectory but it’s getting better. Now I look forward to it.
Highly recommend Latin Mass. it takes some getting used to but once you learn to really pray (it’s a different level trust me I thought I knew too) it is life changing and where they heart goes the soul goes the more you attend the more it sinks in
As you say Father Mike, we go to Worship God and participate in the Sacrifice. However I do also get peace and a spiritual boost. Also helps that I go to confession once a week.
I had a loved one reach out telling me she doesn’t like to go by herself as if it were a social event. She changed her mind once I told her you’re not going for you, you’re going for God! Even when you don’t feel like it guess what? It’s not about you. It’s about God!! We’re so blessed as Catholics sometimes we take it for granted.
I live in a neighborhood with many ultra Orthodox Jewish families. They walk to synagage every Saturday or holiday and it's rain, snow, etc. I have them inspire me because it's not a "don't want too" it's what you do and what you are.
May Jesus be praised for His Infinite Divine Mercy I think we go to mass to worship God to learn from God and receive many graces from God through the power of His Divine Presence in The Eucharist obtained through the vessel of our trust in His Divine Mercy ❤
Well put Father. I'm going through a bit of a rough patch right now and some days are better than others. This past Sunday was one of those not so good days. I hoped Mass would lift my spirits. Truth be told, it really didn't. But like you say, that's okay. I don't go to Mass to get my belly tickled or to get some sort of cosmic hug. I go to honor God. To spend some time with His Son, and join Him in the Eucharist. A couple weeks back I left and was actually singing on the way home I was so swept up in it. The Holy Spirit was on my heart because I opened it to Him that morning. That was a bonus. Next week, I might be singing again. But I will be there and I'll tell you what, it's during the hard times that you realize why Jesus left the light on for you. At least that's how it works for me. "Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted." ― Matthew 23: 12

Absolutely LOVE FATHER'S HOMILIES!! GOD bless you!
Pray everyday for more priests. Esp. Like fr. Schmitz
Thank you father Mike. It’s about what I can give not what I can take
💙 I love going2 mass! I go to mass because it allows me to feel closer to our God & and the house of God makes me feel spiritually alive 💙
🤔 What is Paul’s gospel? ✝️🩸

I love the fact that I get to worship every time I go to church.
I talk to God and the Angels every day! I say the Rosary everyday, sometimes I say 3 Rosary’s a day! Love God, Jesus, Mary, All Angels and Saints! God speaks to me and is with me everyday!😊
AMEN THANK YOU MY LORD JESUS FOR LOVING ME AND SAVING
ME
This is very timely for me.
Gracias Father Mike, That's the TRUTH and Good WAY Of Explaining IT. GOD Bless You and Everyone Who listens. ☝️💯💯👍
I stopped getting bored at mass four years ago. I started attending TLM. 🙏 JMJ
I love the TLM so much!
I love the mass, I find it comforting; I listen carefully to the gospel, but once or twice, I've arrived feeling really cranky. Usually, it's because of finding all service sheets and hymn books have been taken...it reminds me to arrive earlier.
I heard you discuss this topic about 3 years ago. Since then, I have never again felt unfulfilled after mass.
Thanks, Fr Mike, for reminding us about the disposition we should have when attending Mass. May you be richly blessed. Claire.
Brilliant. Thank you, Father.
Thank you, Fr. Mike. You are truly a great priest.
That ability to worship God and even give glory to Him is AMAZING!! If you don’t understand this then ask God for the virtue of humility.
I will remain humble and kind. I have, I am not.

Thank you Lord for the gift of the mass. I simply love going to mass, looking at Jesus's face on the cross and saying "you are my Shepherd and I love you". Thank you for your passion and death on the cross for me. Father Mike you are awesome.
If only our eyes could see, what is truly happening during the mass, everyone would want to be there.
I love how well you explained this we are there for him not for us what a gift to be able to receive our lord Jesus in the holy Mass 🙏🏽
Hey father Mike, good to see you and hope you're doing well. I agree with you, great video. Take it easy father Mike. Have a great evening.
Thank you @AscensionPresents for this video. It seems I've been looking at Mass the wrong way - not what I get out of it. It is the worship that I give to God - at least, that's what I understood the Mass to be.
As the great Fulton Sheen said, you don’t get anything out of Mass because you didn’t have anything going into Mass.
For most isn't Sunday a day of obligation ( Even the holy days, isn't that what there called?) maybe it's just a matter of showing up?
@@sitka49it is. But that’s the baseline. The hope is that we have a relationship with our Creator and Savior that makes us yearn to be near to Him, whether we’re obligated to or not.
@@sitka49but even when it’s hard, and you don’t feel like you’re getting “anything”, you still showing up is so important

This is what I should send to my friends and family. It’s not about us …. It is about what we give to GOD …our worship , our love and dedication to HIM. So well said Fa Mike ! Congratulations on hitting 1 M subscribers!! 🎊 🎉🤩👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥳🥳🥳
And we will grow to 1.5 to 2 M soon. Every chance I get , I promote this channel to Catholics and Non Catholics . I say you don’t have to convert to RC …. I just want YOU to hear how we altogether can deepen our faith in Christ . Let the WHOLE world know THERE IS A LIVING GOD who loves US with our imperfections and our vulnerability.
Keep up the great content !! 👍👍👍👍 ❤❤❤❤
When I sing and read along and being part of the petitions when your engaged fully and listen to the readings and gospel. You become unified with the Mass. It's all about worship!
Praise to you God and Lord Jesus Christ😇🙏❤.
I call it pure prayer, or simple prayer; the simply turning to God, for literally a second, ten seconds, a minute, 20 minutes. It's all about receiving His Existence and Love, that's the only thing we can give. In all the ways.
God bless everyone who’s watching this🙏🏽👐🏼
i want to sharing my experience about daily mass. i ever think daily mass it's not important for me. when i join some camp about youth catholic, i should follow daily mass for 1 week.
What can I offer to the Lord for his goodness to me? Psalm 116
I’m converting and just began my classes. Thank you so much for this message.
May God bless you on your journey. 😊
Well- said!
I've been trying to explain this to my son. He maintains that it is too boring for him to bear. I'm still trying.
Thank you Fr Mike. Jesus I trust in you🙏
Well stated!🙏🏻 Even when I walk into Mass expecting nothing, I always leave feeling something wonderful. Gonna take that notebook idea. ❤
Thank you and God bless you Father Mike. I've listened to this several times and will share it with others.
Excellent perspective. The truth often lies on "the flip side of the coin"
Great insight Fr. I wish there were more Priests like you in Sri Lanka
Wow the mass is for me to worship God, what I can give just as I receive the word and holy communion
As always right on target. God bless you and your beautiful words.
That was awesome. Great way to remind us why we go to Mass. ❤
Humans! We always try to make every thing about ourselves. 😢 Lord, hv mercy. 🙏
Fr. Mike’s hair, like his message is always fantastic.
Well said Fr. Mike! Thank you for putting things in perspective❤
I must confess, sometimes I have a hard time focusing 🙏🏼
I remember a priest missing a section (not with Eucharist) and apologizing but even for them, it's tiring at times I'm sure when one priest has to do multiple masses. You don't have the newness of a young priest and trying to find a good sermon or write one yourself can take time and you might not feel well but you do it. Sometimes you just have to do it and feelings come later
What I can GIVE!
This is so important!
I needed this, today.
Thank you for insight + God Bless You
Thank You Father
Magnificent teaching. Viva Cristo Rey!
Amen fr Mike ! 🎉
Excellent!!!! thank you so much
Father Mike drop!!! This was a great video!
I needed to hear this ❤
I nearly always leave Mass with a huge sense of peace. If I am still feeling preoccupied or anxious, I do know I still got a blessing from being there. Yes, we go to worship and thank God; but each time we are there, we witness miracles. That should be enough.
Thank you!
I go to mass for the Eucharist and I look at Christ ❤
Thank you, Father Mike! 💜
Thank you. Great insight. Important message. Perspective-changing deliberation.
As always, Father Mike gets right to heart of how to walk in to Mass. Today is my Son's Confirmation Preparation Class, I am going to ask for this video to be played. Thank you, Father Mike. 💙💙💙
Well said!
Thank you for speaking out 🙏
I think you are absolutely right.
We also need to take a piece of Church home with us, so we worship there as well, as Christ told us, "When you pray go into a room and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place."
Peace be with you!
True, Mass, is meant to Worship God and be thankful. Amen
I used to feel that way, too, until a wise woman explained her reasoning that if Jesus could agonize on the cross for hours to show His love for her, then she could show up at the foot of the cross for at least an hour each week to console Him.
Beautiful put
yes, feelings can be real but never should lead us astray.
I LOVE Mass. I think it would help folks to get there early, say the rosary and let the world go for a couple hours and worship our Lord and all he did for us. I go on Fridays, most Saturdays and every Sunday. I just love Mass.
I started takign notes esp during homilies
Pray for them
That's something I realized while going to a Protestant church.
Great message. ❤
Can you respond to Pope Francis comments last week about ‘all faiths lead to God’?
Council of Trent posted a video today. Also, the entire speech is available in English on the Vatican website.
Sadly, i, usually, take it for granted.
Mass is a celebration ❤
