What to wear to ice skating? It's a common question among figure skating beginners who are just starting their journey on ice, as well as recreational skaters preparing for the Holiday season and wondering how to dress to figure skating outings.
In this episode of our Adult Figure skating vlog we have reviewed some common misconceptions about figure skating clothes and put together some helpful ideas for a perfect figure skating outfit!

// OUR STORY
We're professional dancers who decided to try something new. Figure skating is usually perceived as a kid's activity and often adults feel like it's too late for them to start.
We decided to ditch this notion and prove with our example that it's never too late to try something new.
We hope our experience of learning ice skating as beginner adults (which is also a great workout) will inspire you to get active and get in shape and go after those points on your bucket list, too!

What do you like to skate in?
I wear leggings and a fleece sweatshirt. Comfort with a side of some fashion. But mostly practicality.
I use ankle pads, compression socks, dark leggings that can stretch over my skates, and usually 1 of 2 similar fit black jackets
All of my favorite leggings have holes in the bottom from the laces hooks😂
@@jessicamaaskant8018 haha I can see that happening! 😅
@@jessicamaaskant8018 do you find compression socks helpful for your skating?
I skate barefoot inside my skates, but I have custom Harlick skates that fit really well. Rental skates are usually broken down and the blades aren't sharp, wouldn't recommend putting your foot in them without thick socks...
Oh for sure! Hahaha
As for your custom skates - how do you deal with smell from skating barefoot? I heard some people do prefer that, but I feel like wearing socks is the best way to prevent my feet from sweating into my skates 😬
Also, ladies....wear a good sports bra! If you are working on jumps, your regular bras will not cut it.
Triple yes to this!!! 😅
Very useful tip!
These are great!!! I would say for socks you want to buy skating socks which are like a heavier nylon or thin wool socks. The thinner the better. Cotton, bulky socks will not wick away the sweat and make your feet colder as well as not let your feet "feel" the skate and pressure needed as well.
Agreed! Bulkier socks are mostly good for rental skates or to balance out any looseness in the skates
@@brunoandfae hopefully there's no looseness in the skates! 😅😉
@@kierstinl3787 hopefully!!! 😅😂
Thanks for making this ice skating fashion show for us! lol You guys are funny! Please make more for us! TQ ^ ^
There’s a guy at my rink who always skates wearing a golden sparkly outfit and sometimes a red, black, blue sparkly outfit. It beats my basic all black outfit lol (Black top, black leggings, black fleece jacket and black gloves)
This video helped me so much. I’ve skated before but I’ve always worn jeans and small soaks. I can’t wait to use y’all’s advice for tomorrow on the ice 😄
You are very welcome! Glad it’s helpful :)
Your first "no" amused me slightly. I'm goth and generally dress in a "romantic goth" style so my daily wear looks like it might be a costume for competition. Since a lot of my ice time involves taking what amounts to a really long lunch, going from work to the rink and back, I can't really wear anything specific for skating. The one concession is that I'll wear slightly looser pants on the days I plan to skate. As for socks I wear compression socks regularly (being an old fart) and they're pretty thin, so I've got that part anyway. ;)
As I've said before, I love your videos and always look forward to them. Thank you for sharing your skating journey.
Totally get it.
The main purpose of this video is to help people who haven’t skated before or don’t skate on the regular and are wondering what to wear.
If you already have your routine and your preferences, you already know what’s best for you!
@@brunoandfae don't get me wrong, I wasn't disputing any of your advice, just offering a personal perspective and a bit of amusement stemming from my personal style.
There are some rinks local to me in Illinois that are FREEZING. I took a coaching seminar at one that is notorious for being extra cold all the time. We all wore parkas and legwarmers and such and still couldn't get warm. By the time it was time to try doing the demos, I couldn't feel my feet at all :(
That said, good point about layers. Many people don't realize we will start out a bit more bundled and them strip off layers as the session goes on. :)
Ugh, that doesn’t sound fun... 🥶
I heard there is one in north California that is like this, too.
Luckily extra cold rinks seem to be more of an exception.
@@brunoandfae The rink I'm at has heaters over the hockey boxes and they turn them on during winter (since it's a warehouse style rink and it drops to single digits). Nothing is weirder than walking into an ice rink and being warmer in there than outside lol
@@ShaunaLynnIllustrates for us it would be REALLY weird since we're in Florida :D
@@brunoandfae Hahahahaha - I'm in Florida too and the rinks here are the coldest I've ever been in! I wear fleece tights every time.
@@sandraskates which ones do you mostly skate at these days?
We find ours... okay 😆 It’s on the chill side but not freezing
I’m loving it!!!! ❤️
Haha thanks! 😆
aaaah that leg stretch 😂😂
🤗
Haha, informative and cute ❤️
Thank you! That’s exactly how we planned it, haha
You guys should totally try skating on these winter holidays!
I saw them freaking jeans and I IMMEDIATELY SAID NOOOOOOO!!!! HOLY MOLY NO DO NOT EVER WEAR JEANS ! jeeeezzzz 😂😭 you don't want to accidentally rip your pants if they're tight also they're Soo uncomfortable especially when wet from the ice
haha we totally agree! jeans are very restrictive :D
Did you wear them socks in your skates to are they thick socks to friend
Me and my best friend went ice skating for my 15th birthday yesterday!! It was fun, but I had no idea what to wear. I wore jeans and a t shirt. It was difficult to move plus really hot. I used rental skates and after got blisters (I did wear long softball socks because those are the only long socks I got)
How did the softball socks work for you
What kind of socks does she wear in her skates
Are them socks tube socks friend
Hello friend I like your White socks
