    I need to get over there for a skate fitting too! I'm very fearful of making a bad choice and regretting my purchase. I am currently in 30 year old skates that are entirely too narrow for my feet, but I want to keep my blades. I am also doing both freestyle and dance, so I'm clueless as to where to even start. Thanks for the video!

      Wow, 30 years is a long life for skates!!!
      We’re in a similar situation (doing both, dance and freestyle) and so far happy with the options we went for. They seem to be a good compromise!

    I ordered my Edea skates from Italy boot hardness is 30, I live in the Caribbean so no pro stores here, they are the correct size since I measured well but gosh, my bunions are not having it, and I also suffer from terrible lace bite right at my ankles, my only work around is padding, I wish I could get them professionally molded to my feet, but I'm afraid of ruining them trying to diy it. 😭 They're so cute though 💗

    As an ex-pro/coach (ice dance), I'd have sent you straight back to the shop to have those dance blades swapped for the right size. Dance blades should never be fitted short, ie in from the heel at the back. It's dangerous and you'd feel much more comfortable with the correct size. Freestyle blades are fine with that type of gap at the heel but dance blades are not. I also have reservations about the boots you've been sold but it's the length of those blades that's the most worrying.

      We appreciate your concern. We are lucky to be surrounded by an amazing team of very professional Olympic level coaches (including ice dance) and highly qualified fitters that we trust. They are all in agreement on the boots and blades options we’ve been fitted to, so we’ll go with their experience and wisdom.
      If we encounter any problems, we can always change. So far everything seems to be working great for us!

      To follow up, we have forwarded your comment to our fitter and here is his professional response:
      “Blade sizing for Edea boots is very specific due to the construction of the soles and heels. The next size blade up for your boot is too long and screw placement is not ideal for a secure mount. With a traditional leather sole you don't run into issues and you can mount longer blades if necessary. Do you feel that your blades are too short? Let me know, we can go longer if you prefer, it's just not ideal.”
      Hope it helps clarify your concern.

      @@brunoandfae That's really interesting. I'm glad you asked the fitter. I have never been a fan of Edea boots but provided skaters actually wear the right fit and boot for their skating level, I don't have a problem with them per se. However, finding out that you can't actually mount the correct size blade on them for ice dance is a big no-no for me, especially for beginner dancers! I shall be looking into this further. Thank you for this reply.

      @@brunoandfae I've just had a look at the mount on Gabriella Papadakis's Flamenco Ice. Right to the end of the heel. I really think yours are dangerous and you've either encountered a fitter who either didn't know or who didn't actually have the right size blade in stock. My professional advice would be to get your blades swapped for the right size immediately. Whether you take it or not, however, is entirely up to you. Happy skating.

      @@morriganpalmerbrown4223 I’m not sure why you think our blades are not right at the edge of the heel, because they are... I think you might have gotten confused with camera angles or smth. There is no way a larger blade could fit.
      Our fitter is a well known professional with stellar reputation (I am actually surprised you didn’t recognize his face, most skaters we’ve encountered online do know who he is) - skaters of all levels fly in from all over the country to work with him, so we have no reason to question his recommendations.

  • @eljj7968
    @eljj7968 3 года назад +5

    Wow, I'm really surprised they put someone who is just learning to jump and mainly does ice dance in a Concerto! That's rated for triple and quad jumps. It's normal for adults to go up one level of stiffness in Edea, but that's pretty extreme going to a boot this stiff. Out of curiosity did the shop tell you why they recommended the Concerto rather than Chorus?

    • @brunoandfae
      @brunoandfae  3 года назад +6

      Chorus was never an option that was discussed for Bruno. Nicole (the fitter) actually explains the reasoning for recommending Concertos in this very video.
      To elaborate a bit on what she says, they are the closest model to Showgirl (same stiffness and similar structure), which unfortunately does not have a male version.
      We started out in boots rated through axel/first doubles technically and didn’t feel overbooted at all from day 1. We also outgrew and broke them down within half a year. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to change skates so frequently.
      Bruno pretty much has all his singles at this point as is looking to advance further.
      Additionally, they have a lower cut in the back than most others. Since Showgirl does not have a male version, the only other option for him with lower back would be Flamenco but that wouldn’t work for our goals (as you hear Nicole explaining in the video). We wanted a good dance-friendly boot that wouldn’t limit Bruno to dance only at the same time.
      Both our coaches (freestyle/MITF coach and dance coach) think these are a nice compromise and a great choice for him!
      We both feel that skate models are just skate models and they shouldn’t be a subject for competition or judgement... Each skater should be choosing what works for them personally and trust fitters and coaches most on this subject.

      @@brunoandfae Yes, there are definitely lots of factors involved in choosing the right skates, but was just curious why Concerto over Chorus, which wasn't discussed in the video. I coach skating and often see issues with people who have boots that are too stiff, so always find this stuff interesting. Anyway, hope they work out!

    • @indiging8330

      You can't overboot in edea. As a "coach" you should know that.

      @eljj7968 Год назад +1

      @@indiging8330 Incorrect. It is harder than with other brands, but a beginner should certainly not be put in a boot rated for triples for instance.

    Hi!, I have a question because I don't have clear in the video. Did you need an adjust because was wide in the heel or narrow? I live in spain and here there isn't fitters. My heel is very narrow , I had a chorus and ok, but with the new flies the heel is moving. I don't know how to fix it. Thank you!

    I am shocked the fitter said edeas after you guys said you wanted to focus on ice dance. Graf skates have been rather famous for ice dancers, as well as low rise Jackson's. Edeas were designed for freeskaters, NOT ice dancers.

    • @brunoandfae
      @brunoandfae  3 года назад +1

      That’s because not the entire conversation made to the video 😂
      Our key point in choosing skates and blades was that while we mostly do ice dance in terms of testing and future comps, we really want to still Freeskate and be able to jump! It’s fun and we want to be well-rounded as skaters - we didn’t want to commit to dance exclusively.
      Both our boots and blades are basically a compromise that is dance-friendly but still Freeskate(-ish). Our blades are not pure traditional dance blades either.

      @@yuliyatkacheva7805 the brands do differ Jackson graf and risport are good for wide feet. Jackson has a semi custom option if your heel/ankle is narrower than your toebox for only about $60-70 more than the regular price and it made all the difference for me! I have short toes, wider front plus bunion so need wider toe box, but very narrow heel and ankle. I don’t like Edeas and my tech did not recommend them for wide feet at all. (He has been doing this for decades, works with Nathan Chen and Jason Brown so knows his stuff). Brands do have different “lasts” (the basic shape) so going with something that has a congruent last will be more comfortable. HTH
