I'm still participating in my book-buying-ban for the year...but I find so much comfort in wandering through the bookish maze that is Powell's Books. Over the years its become a safe haven of sorts for me, so it felt so good to explore this magical place once more and with a new friend!
Even though I didn't buy anything, I came home inspired and excited to read the books I already own-- I've gathered up my favorite summer reads as well as those I'm looking forward to reading this summer 📚 What's your favorite summer read?

When my son and I were traveling in the UK many years ago, we joined a small group tour through the Cotswolds. The tour guide told us we had to go to one of the tour stops, the village of Castle Combe, first because they were filming a movie there and we had permission to go on site (basically the entire village) but had to depart before they started filming for the day. A year or so later we saw the movie Stardust in the theatre and realized that we had had the pleasure of visiting the town of Wall.
I live a few miles from Castle Combe - it’s such a beautiful village isn’t it? War Horse was filmed there too 😊

The Powell‘s video you mentioned is exactly the one that was the video through which I discovered your channel and fell in love with it! ❤ Everytime you go to Powell‘s, I wish that it was not soooo far away! But one day, I will come to Portland to explore it! I will take a flight over from Germany to see Powell‘s and all the other places in Portland that look so incredibly beautiful! 🥰

The title of The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating reminded me that a few days ago I saved a huge snail that was between the sidewalk and the road in a very hot Andalusian day. At first, I felt very selfconscious because I would have been very embaressed if someone could see me but then I realized that I had to do it to save the snail and also to challenge myself. At the end, as I was picking the snail up a couple saw me and I felt embarressed but I was brave enough to take the snail with me and put him in my yard. I haven't seen him since that day and I hope he is okay 🐌💚 so even the smallest of challenges can have a huge impact

This is just what was needed after a grueling week at work! How do you always know when we are looking for a pick-me-up? Your timing is impeccable. 🙂
So, I had an idea. You know how a lot of tv channels will run "Christmas In July" movies to bring back that holiday spirit halfway through the year? Recently, I was thinking about how you had the call-in number last Christmas, and how we could leave you messages. It was magical, and connected us all.
So as you progress through "girl power summer", and you ever feel like you could use some love and light, maybe that call-in number is an option. It's just a thought, I know we all benefitted from it.
But for now, it looks like it's smiles all around, and the happiness of being with your new friend. Thanks for sharing these moments with us. Oh, and your avocado toast was a work of art!!

Is it a good book to read in summer or more of a autumn/winter read? Heard great things :)
@@anavidreader277 I would say it's more of a spring/summer read if I had to choose! There are a few desert scenes that contribute to that feeling. However, I have reread this at various times of the year and always enjoyed my time! 😊
For me, Children and Other Wild Animals by Brian Doyle is an essential Summer read. It's a collection of essays that are just so funny and soul-uplifting. I highly recommend!

Whenever I have been feeling stressed lately (which is quite often)I think of you saying "grab a hot cup of tea, and your coziest of blankets" and it all seems to calm down. Btw, I love Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, even though I love it less than Lotr and haven't read the book, only watched the movies. Went to the cinema when the third one was released. It was good or at least not bad:) And from the first movie my favourite character was Thorin, don't how I feel about him now because I didn't rewatch the trilogy since then.

Beautiful video Morgan! To meet Sarah on a hike and have her be from Powell’s is nothing but a gift from God because He’s watching over you this summer (& always.) That’s not a coincidence. She was delightful! I sat through this video and read through comments taking notes of book names and checking them out of my library and putting them on hold. Hoopla had the Anxious Perfectionist so I’ll definitely be reading it this weekend. My surgery is in 3 weeks and I’m scared out of my wits but your videos are calming and take my mind off of it, even for a little while. PS you looked lovely today too. Loved your sandals! How ironic that you mention this being a Fairy summer bc I too have been immersing myself in fairy tales and fairy books of all kinds! From non-fiction to middle grade to adult retellings, I've been happily thriving on a steady diet of enchantment. I've been going through a bit of a rough patch with my health (RA is a bit OOC 😕), and sweet stories of magical beings takes me back to the safety and comfort of childhood summers long ago. I wanted to recommend an AMAZING magical, cozy middle grade book I read (and adoredl) recently to you - Hedgewitch by Skye McKenna. The descriptions are just wonderful! I've already ordered the 2nd book in the series and plan to read it this Fall.
