I appreciate your views. And yet, for me, it's not just that they're "not American." As you so correctly pointed out, most creative supplies no longer come from the states. For me, it's a matter of not wanting to support Pinduoduo, which is Temu's parent company, as they are known for abusing their Chinese employees. I don't want to sound all judgy-judgy here. I'm sure that I currently have plenty of supply items that were not made in the states. China's overall policy towards workers isn't good - yet. They could become better down the road but are not there as of today. Have you seen the documentary, *Letter from Masanjia* yet? It's at prime US (ironic, I know). You see, this is a human rights issue, too. I'm not a big fan of Bezo' way of treating employees, either. But at least some Amazon locations now have a union. Nobody in China is allowed to have that freedom.
I do not buy for a minute that Chinese businesses are no longer punishing members of religious faiths whom they've imprisoned into forced labor. Forced labor without pay is a form of enslavement. I'd need proof that none of that can ever happen there anymore before I'd feel comfortable buying certain items. My discomfort over this issue has led me to cut way down on buying new craft supplies. Which isn't fun. I try to limit my purchases to mostly basic things like glue or paint. I am seriously considering switching brands - Nova Color acrylic paints are currently made in the USA. I already prefer Daniel Smith for watercolors. "Daniel Smith's paint manufacturing facility is located in Seattle, Washington, where it mills pigments and mixes the final paint product."
I also buy second hand wherever possible. I stopped buying from the Dollar tree years ago.
**It can be difficult at times to find any creative product that has no ties to China. But I aim to at least continue trying.**

Nearly everything is from either the US or Mexico, with a few tropical things from south sea places, where they originate and grow better than they would have here. Very often, I'll see "California" mentioned on the labels of products in the produce section. But never China.

Tanner, I know I am only a few minutes in, but I think the main reason to not support Temu is the fact that they steal intellectual property from small companies like mine and many of the other companies that design stamps and dies. They aren't the same factories making both. And they do use a lot of child labor to make the products as cheaply as they do. I pay more for my dies from China than Temu sells their dies for. The company that I use does pay their staff well and has good working conditions. Not all are the same, but the factories that sell their products directly on Temu are pretty despicable.

Watched your video out of curiosity and then went to the website to check it out. I am a stamper/card maker and the comments I had seen on different platforms said many of the stamps here were designs taken (stolen) from the original designers. I found a number of them when I went on to look. While these designers may then work with Chinese factories to produce their products to their specifications, they have actually done the work to develop these products. Many of the stamps I looked at even displayed sample cards that can be traced right back to the original company. A lot of these designers have talked about how their work is being stolen. How discouraging to do the work and be proud of your designs only to have people purchase knock offs for pennies on the dollar. Some smaller American companies have gone out of business because they can't compete with the pricing on their own designs. That is why I can't bring myself to purchase from these sites even though my crafting budget is pretty tight. But everyone needs to do what they need to do.

I am annoyed when an item is a total knock off but claims it's the same brand. On the other hand I've bought actual items sold under the Tim Holtz name and 2 others that are indeed sourced to sell on these sites now and again. Finally there are a number of lovely companies making their VERY OWN LINE of stamps and dies and craft products not copied from name brands as we know them and I've become a total fan. Also at least in one case a Tim Holtz stamp/die set for cats was stolen from them and or sold in part to Tim H but continue to make the line which is much larger than Tim ever sold them under his name or sourced/bought it from them. So it's your job to keep an open mind and an educated mind as well as a consumer. It's not always knock off only and it can go two ways. I've got some adorable dies that only are made by that seller/producer in China and quality is top. So shop for those and give those a try and keep an eye open for these being stolen in the other markets by the name brands. It does happen.

The only reason they are in a position to copy in the first place is the fact that these companies make their products in similar if not the same factories taking advantage of their cheap labor but then raking in millions by inflating the price to their customers. you do realize that a lot of the time especially with phone cases like she’s talking about in her particular comment, it’s the exact same phone case. made by the exact same manufacturer. possible same child labor. possibly not. but it will be the exact same phone case. i know since i have purposely ordered the exact same thing from temu and amazon to compare. and they come in same packaging. even had the same product item number on it (proving it came from the same manufacturer) same literal everything. only difference? it cost $23 on amazon. and only $1.68 on temu. so you can’t just throw on this story of things being cheaper because they’re probably breaking child labor laws because most of the time the price difference is because there is no middle man. and usually there is more than one middle man which ups the price even more. but you’re just as likely to get something that was made breaking child labor laws on amazon as you are on temu or anywhere else honestly. there’s still tons of “american brands” that pride themselves on being all american that aren’t even that! so if what you’re really worried about is making sure child labor laws are being broken then i would recommend you do research before any purchase you make. from any company. no matter their location or the race of the owners etc. and not just slam “chinese” companies. because there are so many american companies. and even companies from other countries. that will even have a few home base factories to make people believe they are following things by the rules but in reality they’re the ones breaking child labor laws the most. for example by having 3 legit listed factories as the front to make people like you happy (so they see these factories as a small little investment) but are actually making their money with the other 97 factories that are making them the exact same things, but they just have them listed as something else and are usually breaking much more than just child labor laws. and in the end are the worst of all because since you think they’re all by the book with the 3 listed factories you’re willing to pay them even more for their product and they know this. and take advantage of this. so if you’re gonna question a company and accuse them of slave labor or breaking child labor laws just because they’re prices are cheap. you should also be questioning a company when they have the same quality products at extremely high prices don’t you think??? if anything the company selling at the cheaper prices is being more honest about the cost of manufacturing the cost do the supplies used to make the products etc by being able to sell to you for so cheap. the ones charging you more are the ones you should be fearing most because what else can they be hiding from you?

I have been enjoying Temu since mid Jan. There have been a very few things I was not happy with, I received almost instant credit and so far they have not wanted the items returned. The customer service at Temu so far is amazing. If your order does not ship when they say it will they will give you a $5 credit. The height of the Temu craziness happened at the same time as all the crazy weather in the middle of the US. They could have claimed "act of God" exception but they honored the promise. I think I received at least six $5 credits. The shipping time is quick enough for to keep us happy but just long enough for us to not remember all of what we ordered. So opening the big orange bag can be a little like Christmas. This seems to be a brilliant start up marketing plan, but I doubt it can last forever. I'm pretty sure Temu is taking over the world one debit/credit card at a time. But, for now I am just getting a huge kick out of shopping like a billionaire.

I have had problems within the last five years with Chinese-made appliances and small kitchen electrical things like skillets and blenders. In the last five years, I have had two skillets fail, one dishwasher, and one stove (that we put new elements in). These are not small purchases. These products were purchased from major companies; Best Buy, Kohl's, and Walmart, and they failed!! I'm old enough that I expect a major kitchen appliance to last 10 plus years and they are failing in under five years. So anything that involves electricity I am extremely cautious about.

Been an Amazon customer since they began but for the past 3-4 years they’ve changed a lot including letting sellers sell from their platform when they don’t actually have the product YET. They are playing middle man between you, the consumer and TEMU from Amazon! I have made 6 or seven $100 orders from TEMU (mostly florals to cut up and use to enhance projects) but there have been a few things like Tumblers that I’ve gotten straight from TEMU because I could get the exact same ones a seller is trying to sell on Amazon in 10 days compared to the 20 days it’s been taking when ordered through Amazon…, I have gotten several products like that! If I need a certain quality I usually won’t mess with TEMU or Amazon, I go straight to the source!

basically so many have HACKED Amazon, drivers missing who disappeared being replaced by others who have photo on authentic looking badge is Terrifying. KNOWING porch thieves are circling around at the same time Amazon is to arrive, is repulsive. How many joke about the porch thieves? I heard radio, talk shows, incl game show celebs over YEARS fueling the Thief plots to brag and where to SCORE with lists of their Heists, they claim wins. S.H. now a judge? what law school?

My preferred craft is paper crafting on the Cricut. The blue mat that came with the machine and the next blue mat didn't last long (I've been crafting for about 4 months now.). The ones from Temu I have gone through at about the same rate, but the price is less than half. Shipping times have been very reasonable and in my experience can take up to two weeks (same as when buying from Etsy). The tracking seems to be very accurate. The problem with Temu is that it becomes a rabbit hole. You receive a LOT of advertisements for great specials. It's easy to forget what you have already purchased and is in the "shipping" stage. There IS a message such as "you have purchased 1 time" when you are looking at the product listing, but there can be multiple listings of the same/similar product from different vendors. It's also easy to look at your previous purchases, but when you're just browsing, it's easy to skip that step. You might SAY you're just looking at it for craft supplies, but there is SO MUCH MORE. You need to read the listing carefully. Some are more descriptive and accurate than others. Pay attention to inches vs cm and look at all of the pictures offered.

Great review of Temu vs. Amazon, Dollar Tree. I have watched many Temu reviews and yours is the first that made a thorough comparison. I was leery about ordering from them at first but after watching many reviews I decided to give it a try. I am 5 orders later and have had no issue other than a tin sign I bought for a wreath which was not packaged properly and arrived dented. I contacted Temu about a return and they had me send a picture which I did, and refunded my money within a minute, and told me to keep the sign or discard it. I am a Prime member and spoiled with the (almost) two day delivery so I don't like having to wait a week or more for my order. lol

I have a very different opinion of TEMU. I have purchased a few things, and the quality of the products I received isn't worth the small price tag.
I bought socks, a pair of "dress pants", tip 41 for cricut, a stacking toy for my grandbabies, and a few things I've forgot or thrown away. Let's start with the socks, I can see thru both layers. The "dress pants" look like they were made in 5 minutes from start to finish, and the material is the lightest weight to be considered fabric. Not a chance I will wear them in public! I found my original cricut tip 41 about a week after I got the TEMU 41 tip, and there is a vast difference. Just the difference in the weight of the two is shocking. Seems like one is metal, and the other is plastic at best. The stacking toy is my favorite mistake of this purchase. It is so small I couldn't give it to my grand babies, they would choke on most of the pieces. So that went straight in the garbage.
The next problem I have with TEMU, is how much of my private sensitive data did they collect while I had the app on my phone? How long before states ban it like they did with TikTok?
The last problem, is how much did they pay you to put this together? I thought this would be an independent review, until the last few minutes that is. At the 12:20 mark you said there's a link below. If you put that on the end it's no longer a review, it's an advertisement.
Don't get me wrong, I will shop at Dollar Tree, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc. But I will never buy from TEMU again. I'd much rather walk into a store and pay a little extra for the piece of mind knowing what quality I'm spending my hard earned money on. The US will never be free from Chinese products, that's just a fact of life. But the consumer can control the quality of what they buy.
Bottom line, do your research on this company before you buy anything. Or look it up on the BBB website, they had complaints their first week of business, and many more since. I guess the old saying still fits, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Instead of an item being 80 cents they would be 9 bucks. On top of that Temu will do price adjustments instantly. If the item goes down they refund the difference. They will adjust the price every time the price goes down. I always check all my past orders just to see if there is a price drop before I place a new order. Got as much as 2 bucks and sometimes more. Add the coupon to that drops the order cost even more.

I worry about what is put into the products. I worry about all products from China because of the research I've done but I have a little more confidence with ones that are run through a larger company. I believe the producers of the product might be less tempted to substitute dictated materials for more harmful options that are less expensive as they wouldn't want to lose the client if something went wrong.
And I don't believe for a second that the real profit from Temu is from the products. It has got to be the information gained from data collected by the downloaded app along with purchase patterns, locations of order delivery, items bought, etc. We are the product. And who is collecting this info? Who is ultimately in charge? A company who when given orders has to turn over all data to their government....a government that has repeatedly proven itself to be self serving and untrustworthy. Sure, the subsidiary is U.S. based but subsidiaries ultimately report to their parent companies and that parent company can be ordered to do some very unsavory acts (if it was not directly or indirectly created by the government itself).

I have purchased many items from Temu and I have been happy with most of them. If I have a problem then return is very easy. I have seen good quality items so far and been happy with them. I agree if you don't want to buy from China then don't buy from Amazon or Dollar Tree. The issue is also our government makes it difficult for companies here in the US because there are so many taxes and regulations so that is why many of them source to China to make the items there. I for one like Temu!

I appreciate this review from such an honest influencer! I am a frequent purchaser from Temu. I once found htv for 26.99. It was a 45 FOOT ROLL! It cuts beautifully, and weeds easily. I'm just today going to press it on a tshirt. I haven't found another deal like that. If I'd had more money at the time, I'd have 45 feet of black to go with my white but I'm still happy. Currently my son in law is building me a 3D printer and we're sourcing many parts from Temu. In the end, I should have an 800 dollar printer for less than 300 dollars. Can't wait til it's ready!!

One thing that is bothering... temu could try do something about all the plastic packaging 😮

Even Walmart buys from China! Sam started out selling nothing but American made products but when he died his children buy from all over the world and sell what they find in their stores! Amazon sells stuff from China! They all mark up everything you buy so why not cut out the middle man and buy from the source and save some money! SMH

Some things they make are stolen designs, sold on TEMU and Amazon , & probably others. I know some companies & designers in particular. One has things manufacturedin USA, but has seen copies on TEMU & asks us not to buy it from TEMU because they stole the design

It is not the sameTammer if you buy from Amazon. I search a vendor before I purchase from them. I don't buy cheap. I don't support cheap. It's not good for business, it cheapens your brand. I buy nothing from Dollar Tree for business. I don't support China directly.. Thank goodness that I don't make anything that other peoples make.. Tanner, you have to be rational when saying 'we are not supporting China', it means 'we are not purchasing directly from a Chinese company based in China. If yall continue supporting these Chinese companies, American businesses will hurt and eventually close down, then many people will lose their jobs and CHINESE people only hire their own. Before you people decide to buy cheap and from the China base vendors, there's more to it than Cheap. Cheap becomes too expensive. I don't even go into a Chinese store in my neighbourhood.

I've really enjoyed getting stuff from Temu! I advise people to keep a tape measure and a metric conversion table on your other tab. I ordered a bunch of round magnets that were laughably tiny! Now I check before I order. Also the low prices trick you into ordering way more items! Where else do you order 40, 50, 60 items all at once! Certainly not at Amazon! Lol!

It came in a pack of 6 and they refunded me the price for the whole thing. Their customer service is even good to work with. ❤

Such an interesting video. I’m in Australia, and wish we had more products made locally, however, our wages are higher, so products would be more expensive. I struggle with the amount of products coming out of China and would bet most of the products in my local KMart would be sourced from China, and they are ridiculously cheap. Tanner, you’ve got me thinking; I’m a Cricutter and Happy Planner and am now curious where their products are made. I assumed HP was made in the States. Will now check the packaging.

Just an FYI, most “knockoffs” are the same product as the branded items. The various brands get the Chinese factories to produce their products and they literally spray the name on the item. Especially items that cricut sells. It’s all from China. All of it, or Cambodia.

You’re absolutely right. If you really don’t want to support China but buy at dollar tree or Amazon, ALWAYS look for where it’s made from. The things I usually feel more comfortable buying from those people are usually from USA or Mexico. Depending on the product.

I totally agree with you about buying from china. I have other hobbies and the items i use, i might buy from someone in the US, but they ordering them from china. Some of them are marked up so much, its mind boggling. What makes me sad, that people keep going down, and more down on price after they make items to sell. They are going towards a wage that they would get if they are working in china. Crafters need to stop under bidding themselves, because people would pay the price for what they made in the US, even if a base supply might come from china. Every one should sell their tumblers, for example, having the same quality and “workmanship “ for the same price. Not under bid everyone

It's wild actually.. I've ordered so much from Temu lately with VERY little to no issues at all and yet, I've spent 3x the amount for things on Amazon that had great reviews and it broke right from the package or wasn't worth my money at all. I do also like that on Temu I'm also able to watch and read reviews on purchases to get a general idea just like Amazon. Measurements matter lol that's the biggest take away from Temu 😅 I also totally get not keeping electronics plugged in but I don't even leave my cricut plugged in since it almost burned my kitchen down 😂 it's like when you buy that mayo at Aldi.. it's name brand mayo in most cases without the company paid label. Make good choices yall 🎉

I assumed Temu was based in China from the moment I first saw it. You won't get those prices unless you cut out a lot of the distribution chain. A lot of the products are identical. The Chinese companies make a little bit more and we pay less. A large portion of items are produced in China and then branded for American companies. You won't be able to only support American without paying high prices.

I would say 50 50 meaning 50% good stuff 50% garbage not even dollar tree quality. What really makes me mad is them blatantly stealing patented items. The cricket stuff is fine there isn't a inventor being screwed out of royalties because you bought a sticky mat or scissors. I am talking about designer items and other intellectual
    Items.

My only issue with them being in China is that it doesn't tell you where the money is going. Meaning, the payment goes through and then I get an email from my business acct immediately wanting to make sure my acct wasn't compromised AND THEN they charge me a fee because it's out of country.
I just wish I knew ahead of time and then I could use our personal acct which doesn't charge a fee.
I'm going to try Temu after watching your video to check it out.
    Thanks!

I absolutely love Temu. I’ve placed 23 orders total. It’s pretty addicting. I’ve been happy with 98 percent of my purchases. I do notice things changing though. Prices are ticking up a little and I used to earn coupons to use on future orders which made everything even cheaper. I haven’t seen those coupons in a month now so I know I won’t be shopping as much as I was before for that reason. Quality is good. Returns are easy. I haven’t had any bad experiences.

I've been ordering from Temu and having good results too. I've ordered the "cricut" embossing tip because it was $7.... it is IDENTICAL to the actual Cricut one the I spent WAY more than seven dollars on! I have a fine and deep point cutter delivering today! I've gotten weeding tools, mats - all of which are as good as anything else I've purchased - sometimes better! I also purchased the glass can shaped cups with the bamboo lid and glass straws - a set of four was only $19. I'm not even going to tell you how much I have spent. Lol. I have purchased craft supplies, the small heat press, shoes, purses, rings, crystals, a lamp, dresses, tshirts....
My only actual complaint so far has been a ring that was VERY purple in their photos was more lavender when it showed up. But seriously... it was $3... I still like it, and not even worth haggling over. I'm still wearing it all the time!
The only thing I would say is to make sure you pay attention to sizes given in the description or in the pictures, and if you are plus size, it's hard to find tops that fit. Even their 5x is not always as big as it sounds.

I ordered yarn from Temu. It was a couple of weeks before getting my shipment. It was poor quality. Some of my friends have ordered non craft items and it was great. I wouldn’t order yarn again. I just didn’t see items that I would craft with or crochet with. I scrapbook but I didn’t see items that I would use there. It isn’t as easy to find items as it is on Amazon.

I have ordered a few times and so far my experience has been positive. Really read the measurements, that’s the only real negative. I choose items that are hard to ruin, like acrylic blanks, but really read the measurements. Shipping time is better than most considering, and all companies have negatives but cost savings is huge. I wouldn’t buy a lot of things from them, but I’m super picky. But it is worth it for some items.

Thanks for all of your research and this informative video, Tanner. I have placed 10-15 orders in the last few months and have rarely been disappointed. I've even found things that I didn't know that I needed.
They are very good about refunding your purchase price if there is a problem. And free shipping can't be beat. I've had to pay to return stuff to Amazon, and shipping isn't always free there. One downside is that it usually takes a minimum of 10 days to receive products. Also, the packages come all taped up like customs inspected them. That's ok, but don't fold my "Cricut" cutting mat in half to make it fit better in the package before taping it back up. (Yes, that was refunded as well.) I've bought several crafting tools and many sublimation products, and they all seem to work well. And the prices are cheap enough that you can stock up on various items.
I wish that we could get stuff like that in the U.S. as inexpensively, but I'm also a big user of Amazon and Dollar Tree and never connected that. I know that they have made a big splash in commerce, and was a little concerned about that, but I will continue to use them as long as I can. They are like Wish on steroids. Wish lost me as a customer when they charged more in shipping than a cart full of goods.
    Thanks again, Tanner.

Thank you for this video! I do want to support local businesses (I live in France), but everything they sell is made in China. It is a nightmare but that’s the reality of the day and I don’t thank our leaders past and present for destroying our local industries. That being said and trying to do the best of what I have. I haven’t ordered anything from Temu yet but I will. For example: I need some watercolour palettes. If I buy one (made in China) through a French company, it will cost about 8/10€ and I will have to pay around 6€ for the shipping. At Temu, the exactly same palette costs 1.60€ with free shipping. I cannot print money, so I buy what I can afford after weighing the pros and the cons.
