George Harrison was the best r&r guitarist ever, in my opinion. I say that because his guitar work was like that of a vocalist. It's an over used expression, but I think it really applied to his solos, and the signature style he put on the songs he did with the Beatles, and his own work. There may be more technical musicians, but I have yet to hear any guitarist that created more original lyrical guitar solos than Harrison. As corny as this sounds, I think he was a gift to humanity.
excelsior2511 I think the beatles they sounded pleasant because they didn't overdid riffs and solos, like any Lynrd Skynrd song. they knew that sometimes less is better than more
It's hard to believe that this year marks the 20th anniversary of this great human being's demise... Georgie, you left this world physically but your spirit is still wondering here and there... you're very much alive in millions of people's hearts... love you and miss you so much ❤️
WTH? Have you ears, man? And any sense of rhythm? He was called upon to do more than any other drummer in the rock era. The tempo changes alone that they demanded of him and that he executed beautifully would have qualified him for the Hall of Fame. It was his backbeat in the early years that ignited Beatlemania. I get riled when people rag on Ringo. 😉@@yassassin6425
Concert for George 2002. A very sad reason for a concert but in my opinion one of the most beautiful live events ever. This DVD brings me to tears - even almost 20 years later. Such a wonderful spirit, such a fantastic string of songs and such a great performance by all his friends to give honour to his legacy.
I was nine years old and living in Brooklyn when the Beatles hit the Unites states for the first time and I have always said that if my mother and father really loved me they would have taken me to see the Beatles.
This song is perfect from the clever lyrics to the catchy guitar, the solo and George’s bass line, one of the best ever. Despite this it was considered a B side, almost a throw away.
George was a great musician and songwriter. In many aspects he was the best guitar player that ever lived, not because of technical abilities which he had and demonstrated profusely, but because he wasn't worried about showing off, concentrating on the overall result. In that sense The Beatles were the best school, where all 4 members were geniuses on their own right but always preferred to add to the ensemble rather than fighting to shine above their partners.
Yes. He was an amazing guitar player especially with the arrangements and cord changes which are uniquely George. His slide is as good as anyones. He is so missed.
One of my favorites that Ringo has done that I haven't heard praises of is " Old Brown Shoe ." It's possibly my favorite Beatles drum track. Of course, there are many others. Truly, George Harrison’s music conveys a talent and depth not often seen in today’s musicians.
@@stoonhead9151 Ringo defo played drums on Old Brown Shoe. Paul has admitted that he can’t do a shuffle in this 2005 interview at Hog Mill Hill ruclips.net/video/YhZZiMOy334/видео.html Also, we see an early version of the song being rehearsed in Get Back. Paul is seen struggling with it while Ringo can be seen nailing the beat. In addition, The Magic Christian was only being filmed in Twickenham which is a 40 minute train journey from Abbey Road with only one change (at Waterloo), and didn’t shoot on evenings and weekends.
at this point george was a master guitarist and he was maybe one of best slide guitarist ever listen to his guitr into of my sweet lord the solo of give me love he played lead on tom petty i wont back down he played the guitar solo on bob dylan under the red sky he played all slides solo in the travelling wilburies albums
George certainly was a dedicated guitarist: he learned from some great players and could match their styles very well. Delaney Bramlett taught George to play slide, and Delaney was friends with the best slide man: Duane Allman.
@QueenBeatlesWings Very well said, also in my opinion George had by far the greatest solo career, even helping out greatly on John's Imagine album - George played great guitar on that album on the majority of songs e.g. Oh My Love. I love George's albums in the 70's and 80's greatly, every one of them is fantastic and he has so many unknown great songs for example The Answers At The End, Unknown Delight, Baltimore Oriole (Which is a cover) and Learning How To Love You. George truly was a genius
Actually, I heard George quoted that by the early '90s he couldn't play as fluidly as he did in the late '60s. The solo on "Old Brown Shoe" is just about the fastest picking George had ever done on record (especially the quick lick at the 4th bar in). To he credit, he didn't want to present a sloppy version of his old self and instead checked his ego and let the more capable guitarist in the band tackle the nifty solo.
THE BEATLES .OLD BROWN SHOE........THE SONG FOR THE ALBUM HEY JUDE . I THE VERY LAST ALBUM RECORDED. FOR THE BEATLES TOGETHER. ..AMAZING RECORDED. .GREAT SONG... kavi poag Hey Jude was a compilation album for the U. S market and released in January 1970. It was authorised by their manager Alan Klein. The Beatles had no input in its release. The last Beatle album recorded was Abbey Road although Let It Be came out after it.
The percussions were really great. But believe it or not: It was Paul McCartney who played the drums on this tune, not Ringo. The Beatles Bible writes: "Ringo Starr was filming The Magic Christian, and was unavailable for the session. In his place, the drums on the song were played by Paul McCartney".
If you look closely enough, George is playing the lead solo...☼ On the studio album, John played the opening riffs anyhow, as George liked the way he played it better than himself. Same with Eric in Japan. FYI
@slash129 Andy Fairweather-low plays the solo. George wrote the song. It is a masterpiece and it is enough. It's understandable he wants to relax during the concert. Cheers!!
I remember John making fun of this song in the Get Back film when George first played it to them. And Paul looking very superior and bored when George was talking to him. It's surprising that George came back after leaving the sessions- he later explained that it was only because the other three asked him to come back to just finish the Get Back album, and somehow that grew into the Abbey Road sessions. And at the final Beatles recording session in January 1970, when they were finishing up "I, Me, Mine", (George's new song to fill out the album), only George, Ringo, and Paul were there- John had quit in September 69 after returning from Toronto and returned all excited about the POB's live performance with Clapton (Remember how John nonchalantly recommended hiring Clapton to replace George after George had quit in January 69?). George left in January 69 and was still there a year later in January 70, but John left in September 69 and never came back. Actually, George was very loyal to the Beatles, even after years of mistreatment.
Seeing this after watching the documentary "Get Back" you may foght : "may did he remenber the jam sessions, whicht he created that wonderfull song, when he played"?
GEORGE THE LEGEND! I SAW HIS SOLO SET AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL (POLITICAL SHOW COSMIC YOGI FLYERS OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT) BRILLIANT SHOW (THE GREAT JOE WALSH FROM THE JAMES GANG ALSO ON BILL). SAD FOR HARRISON GANG/CLAN/FAMILY. HOPE TO SEE YOU IN HEAVEN.
I notice that George always has someone else play the lead guitar at his concerts, whether its Eric or someone else. I know he is capable of playing the lead as he came up with it. I am sure there is a reason.
Didn't The Ballad go to #1 in England? anyway, The Ballad should have been a John and Paul single, not a Beatles single, as George and Ringo weren't on it.
