    Coming from a vinyl DJ, I must say I'm tempted to buy this one, been vinyl mixing for 30+ years, recently purchased a 2nd hand mixtrack Platinum, hate havin to check the screen when I'm used to checkin' tha decks and the crowd...a stand alone system is just what I need...
    Will be booking a demo..

      Thanks, it's virtually impossible to accurately recreate how a speaker sounds through another microphone so we tried to just provide a comparison instead using well known references so the viewer can gauge where these speakers sit in the pile!

    I've been DJing since 2000, so naturally my equipment has evolved over time into a big bulky expensive setup. However I still want this just for how simple and portable it is. And the features it packs really are amazing for the price.

    Great review & totally agree about the value. I switched to the Prime 4 during spring 2020 & have never looked back. I absolutely love not having to use a laptop to dj with but I would still highly recommend using Engine to prep your music collection to get the best out of all Engine DJ OS.
    As you said, a shame about no beat jump or RGB pads but at this price point, that is a small price to pay when you get an XLR master out & the lighting possibilities. You can also plug booth monitors into the RCA outs and use the volume control on those monitors.
    Was planning on getting the Prime Go as my backup to the Prime 4 but I'm now considering the Numark instead. Hopefully the backup will never be needed but the Numark seems up to the job.

    Thanks for the review!!!
    I typically use a controller and laptop, or even iPad for portable gigs, but I decided to simplify for certain situations, get into a small all-in-one and maybe look at an overall migration into the Engine ecosystem.
    I had a Prime GO on the way, but UPS literally lost it in transit. So with the package lost (no worries, I'll get my money back), it seemed a perfect opportunity to give this little surprise drop on the market a try, and at close to half the price.
    Verdict so far? It doesn't suck! Yeah, it's missing some things that my controller/laptop combo give me, but in terms of the basics, it's quite usable, and very importantly, sounds GOOD. On paper, it has better/cleaner sound specs than the Prime GO, and I can verify that the XLR outs sound clean and PUNCHY through my PA. My subjective audio experience with the unit does match the specs, so sound quality wise, I have no issues using this unit for any setting. Booth out would be nice, but I can work around that.
    Speaking of sound quality, the headphone outs are really good! Very clean and LOUD if needed.
    One thing I need to try is the mic input. I've heard complaints about the 1/4" input, but bear in mind that this is a 1/4" BALANCED TRS input, so even without any EQ or effects on board, ideally this would sound similar to a raw XLR input. I just need to dig up an XLR to 1/4" TRS cable to test it with a good mic. If it's good (which I suspect it is), I may just put a vocal fx pedal up front and call it a day.
    Let's get this out of the way: the fx section is weak. I like the controls well enough, and the paddles are a good touch. But without some ability to tweak settings of even the 4 basic fx available, it isn't something I'm thrilled with. Let's hope for a little more control of those in a firmware update.
    The built-in speakers are ... wait, what?!!! They sound pretty good! I expected full-on dog-doo because with very few exceptions, when has any built-in speaker on a music device sounded good? But these are actually quite useful, loud enough and with enough body to let one work on set lists, setting cues/loops, practicing, whatever without headphones (ear fatigue anyone?) or having to hook up to monitors or PA. Personally I would have liked the extra real-estate for additional performance pads and longer pitch controls, but the speakers are useful enough that I'm not mad at it.
    The build, while light and with much plastic, is solid. The unit doesn't feel cheap or twisty, although I may look into some knob replacements just because. Especially the Browse knob. I'm so used to the feel of a larger Browse control that the thin one on this unit feels weird to me. But my understanding is that the posts are metal, so no worries about snapping something mid twist. The pads are soft and feel pretty good, and the buttons are nice and clicky. I can feel that little tactile click with the buttons, especially Play and Cue, so that's good.
    My muscle memory needs to get used to the filter knobs above the jog wheels, but that's no big deal, really. I guess it puts that flashy filter sweep/drop move stuff at the front of the unit so you can be more ostentatious about it with a crowd. lol
    Re. Engine OS, I like it. I didn't have to read any manuals yet to get up and running very quickly. Had a couple of sticking points in moving around music in Collections and Drives and how that worked on the desktop software, but a quick google search sorted me out and I figured out the shortcuts to converting all my music libraries in an evening. Once sorted, I drag-and-drop exported them to an SD card, and now that sits in the Mixstream. I have a little mobile gig this weekend and someone is bringing some backing tracks on a USB stick, but I expect the Numark to handle that no problem too.
    But the unit itself was intuitive and I was up and running, able to competently DJ with all of my own music in an evening.
    Oh, I also wouldn't have minded a dedicated loop knob per deck, but I'm fine with the autoloop performance pads, especially since the longer loop triggers which I use more often are on the first page of performance pads, so getting to them is a single button press instead of two.
    If this proves out, I expect I'll get into a Denon Prime 2 or Prime 4 for more "serious" gigs, but this little Numark unit was certainly an inexpensive way to get into a portable all-in-one and get my feet wet in the Engine OS ecosystem.
    And to beginners, the reviews are right: with clean, punchy pro XLR outputs and some of the other features, you won't be at a loss for getting good sound when it comes time to perform in front of people. I even recommend this as a great portable backup or party unit for intermediate and pros who don't want to drag along the big guns for every situation.

    • @djspacepussy
      @djspacepussy 2 года назад +1

      A little follow up: I was initially good with using the Numark as a portable gigging thing, but the lost Denon Prime GO finally made its way to my house. Sitting down and hands-on comparing the two, I ended up liking the Prime GO a lot more. So despite my initial excitement, back to the store went the Numark Mixtream Pro.
      One of my issues with the Mixstream is that when I did a Halloween party gig with it, I ended up kind of repeatedly hitting its limitations and having to live with work-arounds. Also, because of limited ins/outs, I STILL had to bring a mixer for mics, aux inputs, and even had to hook up and external FX unit. Don't get me wrong, all of the nice things I said about the Numark are still true, and its an incredible value, but once the Denon Prime GO was in my hands, it was quickly revealed to be a bit more powerful, adaptable and the "built like a tank" thing isn't bad either. But a key thing is that I can go directly from the Denon to my PA system, no mixer needed with the 2 mic inputs and aux already there.
      I will still even recommend the Numark to pros who want a less expensive all-in-one unit to supplement their existing setups. Really, it's an astounding value for $599. But I think the Prime GO will be going out with me more often because I feel like I'm not missing much in comparison to my controller/computer setup. Loving the battery power too. But those tiny jog wheels ... :o

    • @houstoner
      @houstoner 2 года назад

      I wouldn't say I am a pro, but I have been doing it many years. You could say I have been around the block-parties lol. I am considering this thing as well. I too was looking at the Denon Prime in the future, but this may be the winner. The only Numark product I ever owned was a Mixtrack Pro 2 when I was looking to try computer DJing out, and that little piece of plastic impressed me. I wore it out after 2 years of use at a bar gig I had. I have a full Nexus setup, as well as a DDJ 1000 but sometimes I have a small gig, like a house party at a friends and I don't want to lug all that around. Easier to just get this and a good pill speaker. I'm also pretty much a purist when I mix, so this has all the features I need. Maybe not all I want, but I could kill a set with this.

    It's a prime go with better jog wheels. Nice. If it had the prime go's effects and better pitch faders it would be amazing. Also its a real bummer that there are no real effects controls. I loved the s9's paddles and I feel like paddles are the best way to control effects. In music could easily do something in software to fix that though.

    I walked away from Pioneer earlier this year and went to the Prime 4 and haven't looked back. That said this looks good, always liked Numark, and would be a good grab and go or for sitting around working on your set at the hotel or something. Even a quick side rig for the right event. My problem is them saying this and other devices like this are great for beginners. Yes, It makes it easy for them to get in DJ'ing but that's my issue, the rookies will not put the time in to learn the craft or music, when they have a device that does it all and they can just link someone else's playlist and push play.

    I'm excited to see the next iteration. I'm sure if they'll work all the kinks out in this one if there are any then take this same concept to a Pro Model. If they have any interest on staying relevant anyways. Don't get me wrong, I love Numark I've got an NS6 and NS7iii and love them both. Not to mention I use their headphones and even bought a DJ2GO2 as a little backup or for ceremonies. But lately they've been sitting a bit on the gimmicky toyish side of the market when it comes to their controllers. And for a company that's been around since the 70's that ain't good. Maybe there's a lot that I'm missing, but that's what I see. Now don't get me wrong. You can do more with less. But I just like premium feel of anything I spend my money one. Still, great idea wonderful and presentation.

      @@aftr4485 Hahaha 😂 I have no reason to lie. I've been deejaying since the early 80's. I've probably used every type of equipment since analog turntables with a RadioShack realistic mixer. I moved onto the very first dual tray cd players, both numark & Denon until working my way into digital mixing using various types of controllers with basic laptops. I built a multi system dj company and purchased several mixtrack pros in the beginning. At first all of our deejays were using them doing multiple events per week. It was cheap and easy to operate. As a matter of fact I still have 3 of them lol 😆. I sold most of my equipment as I've transitioned away from the mobile business. I still own some equipment but I'd say I'm retired at this point. Making the type of money we were all making was very common. Especially in a market place where you have 52 weekends in a year and your averaging 5-10 gigs per week primarily weddings. Not to mention all of the seasonal parties and corporate events we typically did. Then add all of those school events, you do the math. There wasn't a lot of mobile dj businesses at that time but I can honestly tell you, that mixtrack pro paid us extremely well during a time when doing more events was the goal. The gear doesn't make the dj, the dj makes the party👍🏾 One love brother. Wishing you lots of success.

    Quite interested in this if the platters are nice and responsive. My old CDJs and mi er are in a flight case and are a pain in the rear to get out, set up with the speakers and laptop. This would be good for casual use then just hook it up to some decent speakers for any parties or gigs.

      You’re right, FX parameters should be editable and there should be a knob to change the send (wet/dry) level. Also, the lack of a pre-fader channel input gain VU meter is annoying. Sure, you can use your ears to adjust trim level according to the perceived peak loudness, but having channel VU meters helps too.
