@@ricardo1e93 an a6 from the same era with the same engine will have exactly the same problem if not worse (weight). All components of the engine are the same. Just needs better oil cooler and maybe even bigger intercooler. If we would use your logic an m140i would heatsoak all the time as it's a small car with 3 litre engine too running way more power. But in reality the b58 40i has some pretty good cooling from factory (water to air intercooler).
Yeah I have to admit I noticed that quite rapidly since I own a 2008 Audi A5 3.0TDI, gutted dpf, egr blocked, swirl flaps removed and a tune. Running 317hp/678Nm.... Engine has been happy for the last 5 years, but I have to admit it does smoke a bit under full throttle :)
It's a pure joy to watch the owner being in racing heaven in his own car enjoying every moment with that smile, looking at the speedo everytime he felt "that's quick" - pure gold :D
Like a week earlier I was searching for 3.0tdi b7/b8 Nürburgring laps, but there were hardly any on RUclips. Thank you, Misha, for uploading this, turns out with the right modifications, the 3.0tdi can do great things on the lap!

So EBC brakes, "KW springs, I think" (6:10), PS4S. That's why this thing actually seems to be pretty track-capable, at least in the context of it being a big daily wagon.

Great 1/2 lap and happy owner! I had a 2006 B7 3.0 TDI Quattro s-line in stock trim for 11yrs. My favourite daily driver car of all time! The S-line suspension, big brakes and permanent torsion Quattro made it such a great handling car. I once raced a B6 S4 up a snowy mountain (both cars full) and he only just pulled away on the straights. Then I looked up the specs and the 3.0tdi has more torque than the 4.2 (B6 S4). It also has the same S4 brakes as standard. Great car! Thanks

My previous car was A4 B7 Avant but with 2.0tdi engine. It was such a great, nimble car, the only thing missing for me was the Quattro system, fwd wasn't cutting it for me. After that car I went with BMW F11 530d xDrive. Whenever I get to sit in my previous car (which is being driven by my dad since he needed a car), the nostalgia is pretty crazy, the car also was slightly upgraded when I had ownership of it - power upgrades, minor suspension upgrades (sway bars to be more specific, was annoyed of body roll)
2.0 TDI are amazing engines, I’ve got one myself a mk6 Golf 2.0 TDI it doesn’t have crazy power but the power to weight ratio is good. It can handle well and makes you feel so confident in bends. I’m guessing you probably felt the A4 wasn’t the best at handling mainly because it’s bigger. What upgrades did you do to your A4?
@@stayphun6188this Audi can have both (multitronic and tiptronic). I have the same model of the video with the same engine, but automatic. If automatic, the 3.0 TDI always goes with a tiptronic which is more reliable and can handle better the torque
3.0tdi b7 are awesome daily cars. I used to have one just like this in silver wagon with manual. Only swaped it for B7 S4 Avant. Cool to see it on the track with things I probably would have done myself aswell. They sound so good with straight pipes
I have pretty much the exact same car but auto and Bilsteins. Its and amazing car, love to see Misha enjoying one too, they're not very common so it's great to see them being driven
God I miss my tuned 400bhp/870nm biTDI A7, it was an amazing long distance cruiser and as you rarely had to drop below 7th gear for anything 😂 but when you did it had sone good punch. Not the most efficient diesel I admit but 39mpg avg over it's life wasn't bad for the fun that was had in it 😂
It looks like you could have the same result with all this torque even with a hooked-up trailer with some boat or an RV 🚜🚜🚜 As always, awesome lap, Misha
Common problem of all diesels on nurburgring (including mine), stock cooling is not enough, after that long str8 (dont ask the name) they all overheat and lose power
This is the exact same as mine that I'm building for a trip to the ring! I'm gonna be pushing mine a bit further and with better brakes but I was hoping to be the first A4 3 litre diesel wagon on the channel
I had an A6 allroad Quattro (asb) running a tad more than this and although it wasn’t the fastest in the world it was really nice to drive on the roads. Having said that, my 535d was miles better and faster especially at stage 2 thanks to the second turbo. BUT, the Audi cost me under £2000 used it for work for a year carrying parts about and then sold for the same amount I bought it for. Had everything on it too, way ahead of their time.
interesting ... I've not had any issue although I've only really pushed it for short periods on the roads near me (3.0 TDI V6 ASB engine in an A6). Care to explain a little about why it happens? Ta!
@@BlackLines it’s hard on the road to be at WOT under load for a long time- but the longer you are, the higher the exhaust gas temperatures will get, once they get high enough the ecu will cut boost to protect the engine

I sometimes thought Misha is shifting a bit too late for a Diesel. In my experience a TDI really is a different accelerating experience: early shifting, using torque from 2500 - 3500, shift again. I have the impression he wants to rev high like he is used to with a petrol engine but the Diesel says no, no ... But all in all a sovereign lap, owner and also driver (as always).

Someday later this year I need to ask Misha for a lap im my b6 1.8t (by proboost engineering). Before there are some things to sort with the engine block though. 280k km don‘t go by without wear. Rest is still in great shape and good to go.
At first I thought it would give Ring-tractor vibes but this was definitely much faster than the Golf. The only downside there is for this car is the sound isn't as good as petrol engines but you get everything else... Excellent fuel economy, great torque and reliablity for being a diesel and its a handy station wagon. What more could you ask from a car?
@@kudorshi I know here in Portugal, the tuning guys love to buy cars with this engine to modify, now the driveability is gonna depend if you modify the suspension and brakes. My father has an Audi A3 8L 1.9tdi with 800 000km and still drives we'll. This engine is so reliable. I hate the VW group stopped making this engine, to replace it with the unreliable 2.0tdi engines.
@@kudorshi I had the 1.8t B6, the interior was a joke, the plastic and paint were cracking like crazy. Even broke the oil dipstick and frunk handle since it was made of cheap plastic.

I have same car with 2.0tdi and i feel like misha you should use little lower rpm with this car. This engine has lots of torque at 2.5k and over 4k it fades away. For this one i think 2.7-4.2k rpm is perfect
I was expecting more understeer actually, but it did not look (or sound) that bad. Love the sound of the engine, did not expect that from a diesel. I wish you get to drive the B7 RS4 (in Nogaro blue.) around the ring. That is one of my fav cars of all time .
Probably set a record for best fuel mileage around the ring.
The car ain't slow either. High power turbo diesel somehow always win all around.

@@zdx197 It could use some water/meth injection to combat the heat-soak. A relatively cheap mod that saves the engine from blowing up.

My E90 has no smoke at 300tkm on original first turbo. Although I feel like it's gotten slower recently so might have to replace turbo

Ebc red stuff brakes ,braided lines, thicker rear arb, some uprated bushes and all fresh factory arms ,springs and shocks!
They're not big a all, and are extremely nose heavy .

Cause it's a 3.0 v6 common rail. Obviously fuel burns better. Golf Is a 1.9 PD inline 4 8valves PD injection

i had 4 diesels not even 1 smoked
all 4 passed the gas regulations of their euro category with no DPFs

Why? Torque maybe start in 2000 RPM,but even a diesel car has full horse Power in Higher rpm.and for acceleration and speed your need horsepower.

Petrol or diesel - it’s about the power. Max power is about 4000 rpm in the diesel. So it’s definitiv the right way to shift slightly above 4000 rpm.

Looks like a very well done tune! No or little smoke!! But the Swift struggle was very real until the A4 died. Which was a shame.

I have same car with 2.0tdi and i feel like misha you should use little lower rpm with this car. This engine has lots of torque at 2.5k and over 4k it fades away. For this one i think 2.7-4.2k rpm is perfect

I was expecting more understeer actually, but it did not look (or sound) that bad. Love the sound of the engine, did not expect that from a diesel. I wish you get to drive the B7 RS4 (in Nogaro blue.) around the ring. That is one of my fav cars of all time .
