Just finished my part time, and was having a panic-y moment for not being able to find a 'professional job', and that's when you popped up. Your videos are always so calming. Thank you

My husband also makes spreadsheets when we move and for whenever we need to budget for some life event. organized efficiency *swoon* congrats on the new digs!
As a data analyst I just fell in love with you and Kurt, when you mentioned spreadsheet I immediately wondered what your reporting and presentation strategies were. Excel Nerds Unite.

How fun! Jumping for you and Kurt. Now did you get the space with the garden roof area? ON the last video. Cari! THOSE TEA pots. Gahh! Gorgeous. I hope I can see you at the meetup in your Home Town. Would love to give you prezzies. Cheers and Congratulations.
With the help of a coworker I found a gorgeous apartment that I'm really happy with through Dabang. I find that outside of Seoul it's way better than Jikbang for some reason, not sure why. It just seems to have more listings and better pictures. That natural light omg I'm very jealous. It looks like you had pretty good luck with finding a place! I'm really happy for you~
That rooftop garden was so beautiful! I LOVE plants and flowers, so that really caught my eye. One of my part time jobs was actually at a nursery and I've been obsessed with plants and flowers ever since. My desk at work is full of plants, haha. Congratulations on your new apartment and I look forward to seeing it once you're all settled in and have the time to decorate and make it your own space! Also, random thought... that one sink was scary dirty. Like I don't even want to know how it got that gross. Eek.
i used the roof last night to work out and i am so in love with it, i cant waaaaait to get my little house nursery up cause the light in our house is perfect for it! and yeah idk what was going on with that sink haha we did NOT pick that one hahahahah
Loveeesssssssssssssssss it all. I never want to leave my apartment here but all your exploring (that i trust was..exhausting in real life) was so fun in your video it made me feel okay if i ever have to move lmaoo that it could be somewhat interesting (clearly stressful im sure but still) precious and fun. I love...your new apartment from what i can see of it. it's so. cute. I hope i can see it some day when I'm up in Seoul! and congratulations on a new place you and Kurt deserve it so so much
"You know you married the right man when he says: let's make a spreadsheet." 💀YES! I'm not married, I don't even have a boyfriend yet BUT I'll know a future partner is "The One" if he says that (or something similar) to me at any point 😅 Anyways, omg the property with the rooftop garden was amazing! 😱 I think that's the one you went with, right? I'm not very perceptive 😅 Anyways, I'm so happy you and Kurt were able to find a place you're both happy with. Just based on where you're filming it looks amazing and I can't wait for the future tour video of It! 💖
I like it when you are with your boyfriend. Even though he is younger but he takes good care of you. I looked from this video, he check good apartment.
I'm a sucker for dark wooden details, the place I'm assuming you chose (4) looked awesome. :-) Also so nice to see you shoot in natural lighting at home! I didn't mind the lighting before but I can imagine it'll give you more creative options in shooting at home. That's one of the things I really like about Korean apartments, they value lighting so much and the huge windows and views are just so awesome.
So happy for you guys about finding a place together ^_^ Apartment Hunter is probably one of the things that scares me the most for the day I finally get to move to Korea. I already don't like it here, although I love checking out new places... but yeah... thanks for sharing your experience and the apps. It just makes it somewhat less scary haha
we're so happy too! and yeah definitely try browsing the apps now so you can at least get a feel for prices in certain areas, i think that helped me a lot!!!
I swear the view you get from some of those apartments takes my breath away even through the phone 😂 I can't wait till I finally save enough to move there😂
Your place looks so nice! All that wood gives a soft and earthy feeling, I love it! Cannot wait to see an updated apartment tour :) By the way, now after the new house hunting experience, do you have any tips for short-term housing? I will be going to Korea next year for 3-6 months, it's undecided how long I'll rent, but the minimum are three months. I looked at goshiwons but they all make you feel claustrophobic. Since it's not for a super long time, I'd be willing to pay up to 800 thousand won a month as long as there's furniture and a bathroom/cooking area. Any ideas where to look? Thank you for your wonderful video!
i've never used them but you can check out the site called "stayes" for options!!! there are a lot of "share houses" opening in seoul so maybe you can find one of those~ i wish i had more experience in that department, sorry :/
Awesome video! You look so happy and excited, and that's what matters most! Congratulations agaiiin!💕 Quick question; what are the best areas to live in Seoul?(in your opinion and experience)
thank you so much!! i personally prefer north of the river but i've lived south of the river for almost 5 years and its fine heheh i always suggest living close to line 2 because it is a circle line that can get you pretty much everywhere in the city really quickly :)
What exactly is a office-tel? Is it a building that has mix residential and commercial space? If so then knowing my luck, I'll end up in a place next to a karaoke joint 😂🎤🤦♂️ I think my #1 requirement would be a dryer. I don't care if the previous tenant was murdered, I'm sure you can get a shamen for any residual "presence" 👻 but if the apartment has a dryer or has provision for one, I'm game. And I'll prefer to buy a washer and dryer myself. Not thrilled about using one that washed and dried other people's nasty draws 🤣😂😁. As long as there's provision, meaning it has all the correct fittings for one, me happy 🤗. No crusty bath towels for this guy 🤣😂. Yeah I remember you said that dryers are extremely rare. So I guess if I were to live in Korea, my apartment hunting will be a futile endeavor. So if I tell the real estate person that I want a dryer, he or she would just laugh 🤣 And tell me to GTFO 😆 LOL.
hahaha i never even used my dryer back in america, im a hang dry girl! and an officetel is a building that technically can be used for other things (like being an office haha) but is now known for being a good option for younger people and families looking for a smaller affordable space :)
Wow so cool to see all those places and excited for you to start getting plants! I just getting super obsessed/into plants a few months ago and it's great! Also is it normal to negotiate lower rent in Seoul? I know at least where I am in the states (DMV, DC area) if you tried to negotiate lower rent they'd probably just think you can't afford it and not want to deal with you, so I haven't seen it happen much! I know buying a home you can do that but just not renting so much.
getchu a man who tells you "let's make a spreadsheet" 😂💕 "yeah we're earth signs" 😂😂 congrats on the new place, I hope you manage to decorate it nicely and feel more at home ^^ 💕
Thanks for this video! this is super useful! I am most probably going to be living on campus for the first couple months and then move out. Hope I find a nice place like you too! I'm probably going to go for an officetel as well since I don't want to buy a lot of furniture. (I will probably need a lot of bookshelves though haha I am an academic afterall!)
for officetels you'll definitely need to purchase your own bed but there are some goshiwons that will come furnished (but they're SOOOO small!) hope you find a good spot!!
@@caricakes haha yup definitely do not want to live in a Goshiwon! I'm curious, how cheap or expensive can a simple bed get in Korea? online I was getting a wide range of prices. but I'm guessing it'll be in the ~100k KWon range?
@@caricakes You are so right about Naver budongsan! Daum/zigbang is a lot more user friendly. (or I just need to know more Korean real estate terms haha) It is interesting to see how each website lists their 'options' and the things that the apt comes with (cctv, security guard etc). It is easier to get a preview of the listings on Daum/Zigbang than on Naver too (unless I am missing a button to be pressed haha)
Im korean living in Australia atm, I always think the deposit in Korea (unlike other countries) is incredibly expensive for young people. Many of my friends who rent got supported by parents/bank loan. I wonder how you dealt with this, Cari
I live in Stockholm and it's very difficult to find affordable places to live here as a young person. You're either stuck taking out a bank loan and paying a fortune for a tiny apartment (if you're able to get a loan...) and being in debt forever or paying a ridiculously high rent, unless you're lucky. I was lucky to find student housing at an OK price (415 usd for 23 sqm), but we have a lot of students who opt out of studying here, and students who get into school here and then have to change their plans because they can't find somewhere to live. In that sense I like the deposit system in Korea, it's a sum of money that you will be able to get back and invest somewhere else when you want to move out. It seems kind of flexible, I guess? But I also understand it still remains a big obstacle to many and honestly it makes no sense to take out a bank loan for it if you're still gonna pay rent imo. It's just real weird to me that politicians don't prioritize affordable housing more since it would solve a huge financial strain for so many people. How does it work in Australia? I imagine it gets really expensive in the large cities.
hence why i lived in a basement for 3 years haha i saved up! without the two of us combining our savings, we wouldnt have been able to look at a lot of places :/
Thanks for the nice video! But actually, bathtubs are NOT RARE in Korea. They're SO COMMON in normal condominiums(aka aprtment in Korea). It just depends on your budget. FYI.
Yay congrats Cari!! I'm trying to figure out just about how much I'll need to bring with me to put down...I've heard the deposit is what will get you when you move there? Can you explain that a little further pretty please?
Living in a few different places now and being that Seoul is reasonably dense, what is noise like? Do you usual hear neighbours through walls? Does lots of outside come through at night? I guess it differs from place to place though..
walls are definitely thin here but compared to nyc, the street noise isnt that bad! so you hear your neighbors, but not a whole lot of people or cars outside :)
Hi ! Thank you for doing these kind of videos, it's really interesting ! I wanted to ask you, I would like to go to Korea for a year with a working holiday visa, do you think it is possible to rent an apartment from Jig Bang for only a year and is it worth it ? Or should I just find something on airbnb or something like that ? Thank you ! ♥️
im not really sure about short term rentals, but typically housing contracts you'd find on zigbang are for a year at least! Check the app "stayes" for short term options!!
Why do I have such crazy eyes going for my 'hi guys?!" hahah thanks for being a part of this journey with me!!!

I know buying a home you can do that but just not renting so much.
getchu a man who tells you "let's make a spreadsheet" 😂💕 "yeah we're earth signs" 😂😂 congrats on the new place, I hope you manage to decorate it nicely and feel more at home ^^ 💕
exactly hehehe and thank you so much!! we're working on it haha
omg deposits are that high???
House tour soon please! Congrats btw 🙂
i love ur music taste
omg...i stayed in an airbnb in the first building!
This was so helpful thank you!
Yes Kurt with getting the price low!
when he came back with the official rent price i was floored hahaa he's a genius!!
What is the really chill song in this video? Thanks in advance! +cari cakes
Still no house tour?
It paid off !!...you deserve a nice place like this
Do glad you popped up in my recommendations. I am living in Daegu!
Thanks for the nice video! But actually, bathtubs are NOT RARE in Korea. They're SO COMMON in normal condominiums(aka aprtment in Korea). It just depends on your budget. FYI.
your face after seeing the toilet made me laugh so much 😆 i wouldn't be able to live in korea if there's a lack of bathtubs! 😨
Congrats, Cari and Kurt! Looking forward to the house tour^^ In terms of safety, are most neighborhoods in Seoul generally safe?
thank you so much and omg YES seoul is so soooo safe compared to anywhere else i've been in my life hahahah
Spreadsheets! My husband does that too! 😂😂
the best partners to have!!!
Yay congrats Cari!! I'm trying to figure out just about how much I'll need to bring with me to put down...I've heard the deposit is what will get you when you move there? Can you explain that a little further pretty please?
haha ap exams are actually going down rn but i was sooo excited for this vid!
omggg best of luck haha remember, you still get a 1 for writing your name so at least you got that!!
@@caricakesThank you so much for your answer, I'm going to check the app !
