Great too see this. Back in the 60's I attended many races at Mosport. I don't remember who's car it was, waking around in the paddock and there was a silver 904. Not a big Porsche fan but this car was the exception for me - one of my all time favorites.

I'm not a Porsche fan but what a fantastic time capsule you've found guys... after 52 years of single ownership! It looks like a hybrid of Ferrari 512 BB, 250 LM and Ford GT40, I love design like this. It sounds... insane, sound on! And... what blows my mind this car raced a thousands miles of endurance competition but never been crashed, it's completely original fiberglass body and chassis. We want and need a cars like this, thanks guys!

In the late 1960’s my folks lived on the top of Palos Verdes Peninsula. The coast highway goes around the peninsula at beach level several hundred feet below. There was some guy with a 904 who would hit that beach road late on a Friday or Saturday night. The sound was unbelievable.

Sounds great for a four banger. The classic look is ageless for the 60s race car. Amazing how Porsche designed and build the engine for such reliability for racing. 82 hours at the "Ring!. Amazing stuff.

Great video, you can see how little the steering wheel moves to drive this car. The most it ever turns is approxamently 3/4 of a turn, never gets near lock to lock and there is no power steering and the driver lightly holds the wheel. A real drivers car!!

  • @randytaylor1258

I think it's so great and so crazy we can get cars like the 250 testarossa, 904/906 or risk's, Gt40's, tipo 61's etc... road registered. It's a very very beautiful thing to be able to drive these on public roads with minimal adjustments. I can watch 50's-70's sports racers/prototypes all day long.❤❤❤

This is fantastic. The 904 has been one of my dream cars since I built a model of it as a teen. What I don't get is why the driver would spend seven full minutes behind the wheel giving us more history, when he has said how much he was looking forward to driving it. He should be talking about the ride, if anything. And letting us listen to it! But anyway - thanks!!

Once saw a 904 up close at Gary Emory's shop in Oregon - owned by a Seattle tech gazillionaire who had pranged it at LeMans. Values are all over the map on these, with most fetching somewhere over a million. 1.2, 1.3, 1.6, 1.85 USD, Euros, Yen.... It doesn't seem to matter which currency. As the lads have pointed out, this is a car you either have to have or you don't. Somebody recently bought a 64 for six hundred and change. I imagine that was a fluke. Others have gone for 2.2, 2.3 mill? I'm guessing you bought it for at least half that. Still a tidy profit to be made. I have one question? Is there a difference between the 64 904 and the GTS model or is that just a moniker? I thought you guys would have added in the GTS if that was the original name? Michael from your home town, Milton Ontario. Not to be confused with that nasty storm that almost blew the roof off of my parents condo in Tampa Bay. Cheers. PS, to quote Ferris Bueller "If you have the means, I highly suggest you pick one up!".

Few noticed that the pedals are hinged off the floor like early Porsches and VW’s. The 2.0 liter version of the Furmann Quad cam boxer 4 was nearing the end of racing development for this engine series. The next engine generation would add 2 more cylinders, with even more to come. The 904 was historically significant as the progenitor of a very long and successful line of racing automobiles. Key design criteria included low mass, low center of gravity, and powerplants emphasizing durability and longevity. In essence the Porsche plan of World dominance was refined with this series of giant killers.

Hard to believe these can fetch over $4 million now but you can always dream what could have been if you had the funds and had forseen what these would have been worth in the distant future.
