When it comes to the debate of Fallout 3, NV and 4.
I think it comes down to Narrative, Game-play, Atmosphere.
Fallout 3: Best atmosphere, they really leaned into Lovecraft and it's loaded with a lot of disturbing locations and quests.
Fallout New Vegas: Best Narrative, Great story, interesting factions and dialogue.
Fallout 4: Best Game-play, NV and 3 always felt clunky. The game was mechanically refined to play from shooting, enemies and crafting.
In retrospect all three of them really excelled at something and I hope Fallout 5 can really bring all three together for an S Tier.

I love that take. It's a really good point. I think one of the things I hate about fallout 4, visually, is that it breaks the norm of armor. Oh let's slap the typical armor pieces over the vault suit. It didn't look as cool to me as putting on the quintessential leather armor or what have you

Current 76, I'd say is probably a C--not because of gameplay reasons, perse, but because there are no real vaults to explore and whatnot. there's a LOT of other stuff to explore, a lot of Bethesda's environmental storytelling which I love.
But it went from probably F tier to C, which is a huge jump and it's worth playing.

You were incorrect about the origins of Fallout 1. Fargo leaving EA to form interplay had nothing to do with Fallout. Fallout was Tim Cains idea, and a side project he was working on, it wasn't even commissioned by interplay. Also, The vaults being a social experiment wasn't a thing in Fallout 1, that was a Fallout 2 retcon

Saying that fallout 76 is better then 3, is
an insult to the whole fallout community.
Fallout 76 is a product that was delivered broken, doesn't matter if now is more stable, we are not beta testers.
Changed completely the formula, and it was transformed in an always online game, filled with micro transaction.
This is not the game, that Tod promised to us, is only a liar, and we can see the same behavior with Starfield.
IMAO, fallout76, should not even consider a fallout game, and confronting it with the other insult in nonsense.

I would say to me, Fallout 4 would go one tier higher on the list only because of the combat gameplay, when compared to Fallout 3 or NV. The story and other little details / "the feeling"* in NV ofcourse is way higher, but the gunplay in F4 works far better. I still hope we would get new isometric Fallout game, much alike to Fallout 1 and 2. ( I enjoyed Wasteland 2 and 3 alot as well ).

I prefer 1 over 2, although they are pretty close. Of course 2 has some QoL changes that are great and a lot more content and locations than 1. But I prefer the more focused story, the more coehesive locations and the darker tone of 1. Of course I played NV more than the other 2 combined, but there are no bad games in this excellent trilogy. A shame we haven't gotten a new Fallout in over 13 years.

Yeah, it's delivered in an unconventional way because much of it is happening through audio tapes that you find but it's so well written and performed. It ties back to the origins of the Brotherhood of Steel and even for a faction that I don't like, the storytelling here is so damn good.

BTW I find it kinda funny that everyone says you have an amnesia in Fallout: New Vegas. As the devs say, you'r character can have memory loss if you want, of course. But nothing really indicates that. Other than you can ask NPC:s about the lore of the area and the world, like you wouldn't know what's going on. But you could be just new to Mojave or can just simply skip the lore questions. Your backstory is yours to invent, and that's one reason I love Vegas the most.

I think settlements in Fallout 4 was cool, but it was a completely missed opportunity to add an automatic settlement feature
It would have added to the lively-hood of Fallout 4 if settlements could be settled by inhabitants, and they do the actual settling in order to get the location ready for new citizens
Tiered settlements that could also actually continue to build, and “level up” after the basics were done would have been cool as well. Like giving the town a specialized trait such as ammo production, or scavenging, farming, etc

  • @josecruz8803
    @josecruz8803 Месяц назад

Really liked this video and this rating list. Here are some of my thoughts:
-Tactics was meant to be what you said it is and in that it had succeeded. There were times I would get home and just wanted to blow things up and not have to deal much with paying attention to the story of a game. I know I am not alone in this because there are new games made to fill this role to this day. The game was kind of like a souls-lite game for me before it was even a genre.
-The ones in S and A tiers are spot on, though Shelter is the only Fallout game I have not played so I am unsure of its place anywhere on this list.
-Where I do not disagree with the issues you mentioned on 4, I feel that those may be some minor issues for most and that the game is overall as good as New Vegas in its own right.
-76 are good where it is know, even though I am still bitter about 76's launch and how they took almost no input from Alpha and Beta players before launch, my buddy being part of both groups and myself being part of the beta. I would have put it in the D tier at launch but I recognize its has gotten better and B tier is the right place for it.
-Brotherhood of Steal is not only the only Fallout game I returned after purchase but it is the only game I have returned a game in the same day I got it. I guess there was a reason it was in the used bin for a low price less than 2 weeks into its launch

My first game was Fallout 4, just a couple of years ago. Gameplay wise, it is my favourite fallout game and i really love exploring that world. Then i played New Vegas, absolutely loved it and is my favourite fallout game over all, then i played its dlcs and i grew to love it even more. I actually love Dead Money dlc, exactly because it takes all your gear and forces you to scrounge and use what you find. Thats also how i chose to play other dlcs as well, just using their gear. I love honest hearts for Joshua Graham, i love Old World Blues for its sheer insanity and i love lonesome road for Ulyssies philosophies and the dread of the Divide.
Not big on Fallout 3. Too gray and boring, both in story and gameplay, especially after immideatly playing 4 and NV. But i loved the dlcs. Operation Anchorage is fantastic, actually experiencing one of the key moments of Fallout universe, The Pitt, the crazy environment and weapons (please, bring back the auto axe, its such a fun weapon).
Mothership Zeta was just bonkers, getting kidnaped by aliens and meeting a whole bunch of people from across the time, since aliens kidnaped various people at various time and froze them.
Point Lookout may be my favourite however. The bayou is an amazing location, the mutant hillbillies make for disturbing enemies and Desmond Lockheart is one of the greatest ghouls ever. Not to mention the Blackhall quest, for its lovecraftian goodness.
I dont play online, so i have no interest in Fallout 76 and as good as Fallout 2 is, i doubt im going to play it. The oldest game i played was probably Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, but the gameplay is amazing, so i did it.
Whatever comes next, i just hope its not an unfinished mess made with Creation Engine

I think a certain subsection of the internet needs to accept that the majority of people like FO4, and that not every FO fan wants to only discuss New Vegas 24/7
After all these years, FO4 sits with a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, and was almost always in the top 10-15 best selling RPGs each week, even prior to the show.
But any time someone talks about FO4, like clockwork, someone jumps to the comments to say "New Vegas is better!" 🙄
We get it, you like NV. But not everyone feels the need to ONLY talk about 1 single out of an entire franchise. Sometimes we like talking about other games! Crazy, I know. As some that loves NV, it's still annoying to constantly have people derail every FO conversation.

But when they came out with FO 4 it still didn't have a real party system. BGS missed the most fun feature of the game. So, instead of making better, they made it lesser game. They still don't really understand what made the game popular. Switching to real-time-combat didn't bother me, but it didn't seem that they understood what made the game great, and failed to add to that.

It makes sense for the story, but for an RPG where the main fun is exploring fully and doing lots of side quests, having a real timer that permanently fails your game was a bad decision. That's why it was never done again. FO2 has a technical timer, but it was 13 years, almost impossible to realistically reach.

    • @AgusSkywalker
      @AgusSkywalker Месяц назад

@@oljackie35 again, the timer makes sense. But when we play an RPG, we as players decide how urgent is the main story. Technically every main plot in every Fallout game is urgent to the point that if you're not actually working to advance it, you're being irresponsible. Fallout originally had a secret timer and if you didn't destroy the Master in 500 days, he would invade Vault 13 and it was game over. In Fallout 2 your tribe is dying without the GECK and yet you're wasting your time trying to become a porn star in New Reno. In Fallout 3 you have to find your dad but you can still take time to help a lady write a book, while he could be moving to Canada for all you know. In Fallout 4 you have to find your baby, but he could be a teenager by the time you finish all the shit you can do before deciding to track him down.
Part of the suspension of disbelief we do when we play an RPG is accepting that the plot completely stops when you're not engaging with it.
If the games always emphasized the urgency of the main quest by using timers like those, our freedom to engage the game how we like would be greatly diminished and the purpose of these giant open worlds would be completely lost.

I dont think there was really a difference between fallout 3 and new Vegas except for the plot. So determining which is better is based entirely on which setting, story, characters, and writing resonated with you more. Which for me was fallout 3 by a long shot, it was just more memorable with more impactful set pieces. Like the megaton vs tenpenny tower questline was the single most memorable quest line of any fallout game. Fallout 4 is just modern, it was alright.

    • @jessemacarthur9124

Fallout 3 had the most impactful scenes and characters. New Vegas was good, but I actually don't like the addition of factions. I also am a huge fan of BoS, and New Vegas sowed the seeds for shifting BoS from isolationist to bigoted. Looking at the modern day gaming climate, it (both the Fallout game series and the BoS faction) really started to become more political/social commentary. The post-modern faction system of "there is no right or wrong way" is bull crap. I'm a huge supporter of old school family values, but Sarah Lyons (and Elder Lyons) is(are) probably my favorite character(s) of the whole series. The Vault story in 3 was an homage to the original, and exodus was a more epic story than the first one (dad vs water chip). The need to stay outside the Vault also more emotionally compelling (give life to a starved world through fresh water OR kill baddy who is converting the world). So many amazing things about F3. I cannot say enough about why it is better than New Vegas, and this from someone who played New Vegas and F4 for probably double the hours. I love all the games, but that doesn't mean they are all equal. Thankful to see the OG Fallout 2 at the top of this list, though. 1 and 2 are great.

The first alien movie is a timeless classic that can be enjoyed today, fo 1 and 2 are not. fallout 3 was the first of the series to gain mainstream acknowledgement and is radically different from the first two. It was probably the first game to switch perspective part way through a series like risk of rain or helldivers.
additionally, none of the events in fallout 1 or 2 are really relevant to the experience of playing any of the following games.
