It is rap for mature people who have people counting on you. People that have children, mortgages, and responsibilities can feel this album.

4:44 is what got me into Jay Z tbh
The whole album is an absolute artistic and lesson filled masterpiece.

Same for me. I was a Jay Z hater before this because, honestly, I just never listened to his music. After I heard 4:44, everything instantly changed. It is just incredible with how much layering it has from lyrics to production. It motivated me to start rapping. And, as I go through Jay's discography, he has become my favorite rapper. Especially after hearing Reasonable Doubt.

I’ve never seen deep dives on 4:44 but I randomly stumbled across yours, and I loved it!
4:44 is my favourite a masterpiece of J. It’s so aware, and has got a lot of themes he touches on personally and poetically.
The music is also so simple yet the complexity and themes of sampling is well thought.
I came to New York from Chennai, India during 2016-17 to do some music production course and this album was my company throughout my walks day and night.
I fell in love with everything! This album always takes me back there and someday I wish I would move to NY!

Just found this video and this is a great way of looking at this album. It’s my favorite Jay Z album, the one I can relate to the most. I have been a cheater, I have been homophobic to past friends when I was younger, I pray for a strong and happy family. All these things I can relate to when Jay Z talks about it. I’m never gonna understand the street life, or the Marcy projects, but I can understand my faults as a man, and Jay expresses them to me really, really well.

Nah man, Moonlight is good. Jay-Z had an unfinished point about autotune back in the BP3 era in the song DOA. (it was a horrible song) In Moonlight, top of commenting on the state of the hiphop game at the time, he actually develops his point about autotune from back then, not with lyrics, but with his singing delivery. It's a bit jarring but I find myself appreciating it more than in DOA.
