Theckasher 445 No. If I remember correctly this was before Disney bought star wars and the series was originally cancelled BECAUSE Disney suddenly owned the rights to the franchise (so a series on a rival channel was a big no no). I think that was why we got rebels, but don’t quote me
Ah, remember when cartoons on CN were marketed to kids but appealed to an adult audience? Good times (for viewers; apparently CN was losing tons of money in toys and merchandise)
Their bickering was just sexual tension, she did ultimately love him and I think deep down he returned the favor as well. Would be an interesting hypothetical if she stepped down as Duchess and he left the order, married, and had a family and quiet life. But I don’t see either of them wanting that as they both are people who were meant to do great things. Her idealistic attempts to turn a new chapter in her people’s history, and him to go down in history as one of the greatest Jedi to have ever lived.
Her final words are more than just stock cliche. She knew what Maul was doing, and she knew Obi Wan even with his easy temper, was about to be tempted to the Dark Side-worse than even with Qui Gonn. She reminded him and she loved...him. And that if he loved her, he should remain the person she loved, who was worthy of being loved-no matter what. And Obi Wan is a Jedi Knight. He would never become that which he swore to destroy. He'd never give into his anger and hatred. This is all that saves him, in the novelization version, of falling to darkness. Her regard for him. Some people think Obi Wan was just the ultimate Jedi who could never fall to darkness because of his innate selfless goodness, who never felt temptation to do wrong. The truth is he became an ultimate Jedi because he faced temptation, was sorely tested, and denied it by choice. He overcame his flaws because of his connections-his attachments-to other people. His suffering allowed him to empathize with others, while other Jedi remained stagnant and closed off to emotions.
@@Marvelfanatic3658 Well, he was a selfless hero and he was certain the fate of the Galaxy depended on Anakin being trained, therefore he dedicated his last words to making sure Obi-Wan understood the importance of it. Nothing weird if you ask me.

19 BBY was literally a crappy year. First Satine’s death, then the unfair treatment of Ashoka, then the secrets of order 66, then the Jedi purge, the fall of the republic and finally Padme’s demise. Definitely a year hard to forget.
I wouldn't be surprised if the first thing obi-wan did when landed on Tatooine, was gone to the nearest cantina, to drink his pain away after all of that bagged. I couldn't blame him if he did.
I really hated them for saying that. And Ahsoka And Anakin kinda just let her. Obi Wan doesn't deserve that crap. He's pretty much dying on the inside, he deserves better.
Satine's death was as if the galaxy lost one of its last scraps of innocence left out of that mess of a war. The very next time Obi-wan see's mandalore's surface, it's burning with the fires of war, death, and chaos, like the rest of the galaxy. It was people like Padme and Satine that kept the last glimmers of hope for peace alive. Once they were killed or silenced, nothing could stop the entire galaxy falling apart, just like Satine with Mandalore.
Satine wasn't Maul's enemy. She was just a tool Maul had used to get something he wanted, the throne of Mandalore. And a tool to hurt Obi-Wan. Using a person that way was the worst form of cruelty. Satine had been a person, and her death wasn't just a loss for Obi-Wan. It was a loss for so many more.
I doubt living on mandalore was that bad under Mauls rule. He was too busy managing the crime syndicate to worry about what’s happening to mandalore, that’s why he makes Almec the prime minister. And despite all of Almecs flaw, he still loved his home world.
“It takes strength to resist the dark side, only the weak embrace it” - Kenobi “It is more powerful than you know” - Maul “And those who oppose it are more powerful than you will ever be” - Kenobi
The thing I like about Kenobi, is the fact that he still pushes on. The one he loved was killed, His old Padawan betrayed him, The jedi order had fallen, and he was alone. But yet he manages to push on and train Luke. This is why Kenobi was a "True" jedi master
Yes this is very true but lets be real, all the loss DID eventually get to him. Anakin's turning and discovering he had survived Mustafar was thr last straw for him. He certantly stayed true to his path and everything but he never was the funny " Kenobi Master of trolling " anymore.... Thats why i wanna see a movie of obi wan's life on tatooine !
This shows the difference between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Anakin flies into fits of rage that bring him to the dark side every time someone he cares about is in jeopardy. Obi-Wan will do whatever he can to save somebody including sacrifice his own life, but in a situation out of his control like this he mourns and accepts, but never forgets. I like it.
He didn't use the Dark Side. He used Determination. That's the difference between Jedi and Sith. Sith use anger and hate to amplify them, while Jedi would keep calm and use their determination to defeat their opponents. He tapped into the force, the light, and it gave him the strength to defeat an opponent much stronger than him. That's how Kanan defeated Maul in Rebels.
Obi-Wan didn't use the dark side against Maul in TPM, but he did use his anger to fuel his strikes (a dark side philosophy). It was when Obi-Wan was hanging down the pit that he focused and connected to the Force (banishing his fear and anger) that took him so long to understand. It's what gave him the power to pull himself up that high over Maul while force pulling Qui-Gon's lightsaber.
Leia: “What now?” Obi-Wan: “Nothing, you just remind me of someone. She was fearless, too. And stubborn.” Leia: “Was your friend a Jedi, too?” Obi-Wan: “No, she was a leader. She died a long time ago.” Leia: “I'm... I'm sorry.” Obi-Wan: “Me, too.” That scene referenced Padme Amidala Skywalker, but it works just as well for Satine Kryze.
Maul was stolen away from Talzin and the Nightsisters by Sidious, not given to him willingly by them. Hence why Maul says “you think you know me?” immediately afterwards. Obi Wan did touch a nerve, but it was due to him making presumptions after only hearing half of the story, rather than Maul merely being offended by his act of compassion.
Lol, Just imagine,u have been forced to became a sith, had to fight a Jedi Master and his padwan in a 2v1, after be almost killed still surviving, became absoluta crazy, is replaced like a tool by your master and when I about to make the guy who literaly destroy your life suffer, the guy tries to use a talk no jutsu to save his bitch
@@andrewcormack-foster3790Yeah I agree. Obi-Wan wasn’t trying to sympathize with Maul. He was just trying to distract him from murdering Satine by bringing up his horrific past, hoping that that would be enough to distract him from killing his lover.
He still did even after it all. After their final duel he sympathizes with Maul and closes his eyes putting him to his final rest and even went out of his way to bury him peacefully.
Obi wan lost *everything* His Master His Apprentice and Brother His first Love (Siri Tachi) And his second Love (Satine) His Order the only family he ever had But he didn't turned to the dark side... And when Maul died. Obi wan held him respectful in his Arms...
And this is why Obi Wan is perhaps the greatest Jedi of all. He was not as powerful as Yoda or as skilled with a lightsaber as Mace but no one withstood the kinds of trials he experienced. No one was truer to the Jedi Code
@@tustari Obi-Wan far outclasses Mace in lightsaber combat though Mace would prove himself effective against someone who doesn't shy away from using their emotions, that's why Sidious lost to him... People like Anakin, Maul, Krell etc. would be his bitch But in Obi-Wan's case, he isn't easily swayed by emotions, the singular time being when Maul reminded him of Qui-Gon and that was when he was already tortured beforehand
What’s crazy is that in the novelization on this episode when Satine died Obi-wan had a vision of what he wanted to do which was to kill Maul and to kill everyone that was involved in Satine’s death. But he stopped knowing he would be giving Maul what he wanted and it’s not what Satine would’ve wanted.
It is interesting. Love is what brought Obi Wan so close to the dark side-he took the risk and chose a loving act-and because he was so close, because he felt love-he was turned vengeful and enraged by the loss-it tempted him to do evil. But, it also brought him back. The positive fought the negative...and this time, the positive won. The Jedi would say that is why they should have no emotions, and the Sith would say he was weak for not embracing them, but the struggle-the pain he endured and didn't give into-made him a stronger person. A better person.
Darth Vader nope, that's comics, especially as Maul shows here he's able to easily grip someone with the ability of Anakin/Vader without half the struggle on his behalf
This is one of if not my favourite moment in all of the Star Wars cannon. In just two and a half minutes Dave Falonie managed to put the philosophy of the dark side and light in such a profund light while also making obiwan’s and maul’s relationship one of the deepest and most meaningful riveralies i’ve ever seen. Maul’s internal weakness that’s been burned into his brain by the Sith and Obiwan’s pain created by the Jedi order has still never been better illistrated. Top that off with incredible voice acting, character animations, tension, score and cinematography makes this episode still the best in the clone wars. Of course that’s all just my opinion. I wonder if any one understands what i’m talking about?
Absolutely I do! By framing Obi Wan in a similar situation to that of Anakin with Padme, you get to see how two different Jedi respond to grief. In Anakin's case, he responded with fear of the thought of loss, whereas Obi Wan witnessed the death of someone he cared about firsthand! It just goes to show that when a person is faced with overwhelming pain, there are only two courses of action. They will either reign it in and hold it, or they will let it out and explode! You get to see how evil is born from a deep sense of love and how good triumphs through cold stoicism...A perfect scene on so many levels. It speaks volumes about the difference between the Jedi and the Sith, all the while making you sympathize with both.
Satine, the one who was caught in the middle. Fives, the one who knew too much. Anakin, the one who wanted to be free. Bariss, the one that saw the truth.
The one no one ever thinks of, because of the white-hot rage, is Krell. If you think about it, he probably saw Order 66 without the context of the chips in visions, so that's why he went rogue.
You know what's really twisted about this scene? In the past we've seen lightsabers death that were near instantaneous and all trained lightsaber wielders know how to do this. Yet here Satine lives for a few seconds, clearly in unimaginable pain. Which means that not only did Maul kill Satine in front of Obi-wan just to torment him, he DELIBERATELY aimed for a spot he knew would cause her death to be lingering and painful. You know, just in case we needed even MORE proof that Maul is a sadistic, psychopathic monster.
I'm impressed with Obi-Wan's steadfastness. Every person Obi-Wan ever truly loved - Anakin, Satine, Padme and Qui-Gon - came to a terrible end. Three of them died before his eyes (Qui-Gon, Satine and Padme); the other fell to a fate so bleak that death would've been a gift (Anakin). The Jedi Order that provided the entire framework for Obi-Wan's life was consumed by betrayal and slaughter. Every step this long, unfilling journey is one Obi-Wan had to take alone and yet he never faltered. As the rest of the galaxy burned, his path remained true. It is the kind of victory that most people never recognize and yet the bedrock all goodness is built upon. Even Obi-Wan didn't see it. There's more insight to Obi-Wan's thoughts during this scene in the book "Star Wars The Clone Wars: Stories of Light and Dark". 0:19 As Obi-Wan's eyes shifted from Satine to Maul, the image of a red lightsaber flashed in his mind. And Maul was pleased. 0:35 Satine should not be there. She shouldn't have been dragged into a conflict years in the making, begun when Maul murdered Qui-Gon Jinn, the man who'd been the closest thing Obi-Wan had to a father since the the Jedi took him from his parents. 0:50 Obi-Wan still thought there was a chance to turn this right. He couldn't overpower Maul, but he could reach him. Maybe he could match Maul's fury, not with equal fury but with understanding. With sympathy. Maul had not always been this way. He'd had his future stolen from him. He'd been warped by the Force-wielders of Dathomir. He'd been groomed to become the creature of vengeance who stood before Obi-Wan. 1:00 Obi-Wan cringed. His earlier words had not come out as he'd intended. He'd wanted to extend a kindness that Maul had perhaps never experienced. But he let his own anger and his own fear infect his own words with venom. 1:25 As Satine's struggle for air worsened, Obi-Wan's fear turned to terror. 1:40 Brushing the hair out of her eyes, cradling her in his arms, Obi-Wan felt something course through his veins. It wasn't blood. It was something simultaneously colder and yet hotter than blood. It was anger. Obi-Wan fought to hold it back and listened to Satine's last words. 2:03 When Satine died in his arms, Obi-Wan overcame with the same sorrow when Maul killed Qui-Gon. But there was something else, as well. Something dangerous. Something that scorched. She'd been a child on that world. Like other children, she'd taken her first step, uttered her first word, laughed and chased flitters in the tall grass of the Mandalorian plains. She'd learned to read, made friends, suffered hurts, recovered and laughed again. And she'd become a leader. She should have lived to see her world thrive, to see her people find peace, to prosper, to make music and art. She should have grown old and been able to look back on all she'd achieved. But in a split second, Maul had ended all that. He'd extinguished a light in the universe and replaced it with a shadow. Such an act was truly the definition of the dark side. And Obi-Wan burned with rage. With the rage came a vision: Eyes smoldering with hatred. Screams in the red glare of a lightsaber. Obi-Wan would cleave Maul in two. He would do much worse. There would be nothing left of him. Or Savage Oppress. Or the commandos, those Mandalorian traitors. He would kill Almec. He would kill anyone who'd had a hand in overthrowing Satine, anyone who'd contributed to her death. And he would kill anyone who tried to stop him. Anyone who stood in his way, by word or deed. Anyone. And if Obi-Wan gave in to his desires, he'd be giving Maul exactly what he wanted. He'd become the thing he'd dedicated his life to oppose. He'd no longer be himself. None of that was what Satine would have wanted. Not on her world. Not anywhere. 2:29 As Obi-Wan allowed the commandos to drag him away, only he knew of the painful victory he'd just won - and how he couldn't have done it without drawing strength from Satine Kryze, duchess of Mandalore.
teddy Field HAHAHAAH you did not just say that. Anaking is the chosen one, had padme died here he would literally snap the neck of every single person in the room instantly. And if it came down to lightsaber combat a fully raged anakin would kill savage in seconds and finished maul shortly after. But i dont think padme would have died here anyways cause anakin would rage before she got stabbed and would have force choked everyone
They all took different routes to deal with it. Anakin got married secretly and gave into his emotions, Obi-Wan accepted his feelings but never really acted on them, and Ahsoka kinda just forget about them after a few seasons.

I could never forgive him and I doubt that he cares about being forgiven. While Maul has depth, he’s pure evil, which in my eyes, makes him one of the best villains ever.
Man for just this moment I just wish Obi-Wan would've gone HAM on Maul. I know its not the Jedi way but do what you did in Phantom Menace. Except go for the head.
season 5 was so amazing in general and imo season 6 or 7 don't come anywhere close to topping it it hits harder knowing this was the original end of clone wars and i still remember watching every episode on release
I remember watching this scene and it shocked me on a personal level because Obi Wan is my favorite character seeing his chance for happiness fall apart in front of him makes me feel cold and sad Clone Wars will remain my fav of the two Disney shows because of this feeling and rather I liked the style of CW rather than Rebels.
I agree with the sentiment too but to clarify further, Clone Wars was made before Disney bought Star Wars. They made 6 seasons and got canceled because Disney purchased them. Later Disney made a seventh season but it was only after 5 years and that's still only one season vs the 6 that were made before Disney.
@@sherlockholmes9116 Hard disagree. And for the record, multiple arcs in Clone Wars deal with grief. Anakin losing Ahsoka is one example. Character die or leave all the time but the world moves on because you need to and other people are depending on you. I think Clone Wars showed a very pragmatic way to grieve. Honor people who die and miss them but continue to live because other people are still living. It felt way more healthy to Rebels, where the character broke down and were at risk of being killed by Imperials. You can't waste time grieving when you are in the middle of war.
A dramatic scene, tragic. Satine's death; a murder cold blooded, a monstrous and coward crime. Which brings in demonstrating the real face and nature of evil. Without doubt, one of many scenes of this season, which make the best season 5 of the series.
When I watched season 2 I thought the series couldn't improve more. Then Season 3 with Mortis, The Citadel, Padawan Lost... became the best. Sadly season 4 disapointed me, although it had some good things like Umbara. And despite the expectations I had for Season 5 (I had heard excellent things about it) it became the best season. It surpassed my expectations. Just with the 5 first episodes became number 2, and with the padawan arc tied with 3. With this arc it surpass it. I haven't finished it yet. I have 4 episodes left.
I never noticed how ashamed the Prime Minister looks at 0:20 while his former boss is being strangled. He may have been a villain, but no where near the same league as Maul.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the show partially because of how well it shows Maul and Obi Wan’s differing philosophies but also because Satine was one of my least favorite characters in the entire Star Wars franchise and I want to give a standing ovation with cheers every time she dies.

He lost his master, the woman he loved, his apprentice, hell, even his whole order, and yet, he never embraced the dark side. The very definition of what a Jedi should be
Just imagine if this scene never happen and Satine live. I bet after the rise of the Empire, She alongside Obi Wan would have gone into hiding in Tatooine, to raise Luke like Father and Mother, and whenever they both needed to go off world for Rebel or Jedi business, they'll leave Luke under the care of Owen and Beru.
I wouldn't have. Because even then, perhaps more than ever, I was a Jedi. I would never be in a relationship with her. Do not feel bad for me, I made this choice because I am a Jedi above all else.
I love the way Obi-Wan races forward & holds Satine. I love the way she weakly reaches to touch his face, whispers “I loved you always. I always will,” his horrified look & the music as she dies in his arms. He takes her hand & brings it close to his face, to kiss it.
I didn't expect her to be killed off, but on the other hand, the way the two had feelings for each other, they had to eliminate any chance Obi Wan might give in to the temptation...
And after all the pain he gave him, after everything he has done, even after killing his master and love interest, obi wan still had the decency to give him a nice and respectful death on tatooine, obi wan is a true jedi, and what most jedi should be
So we gonne ignore war crimes like false surrender? Breaking the Jedi code using mou kei? Letting a enemy dying slowly burning? Or tricking your oponent by faking u gonna use a ligthsaber form but using another (like Tràkata, It would bê considerate dirt to a Jedi using something like this). So is a true Jedi a hypocrate like our uncivilizade space Jesus?
So I knew this scene was coming, binging Clone Wars on netflix and it still utterly destroyed me for about two days. I mean it came at the same time as a depression spike but still. It's so rare we get a sweet chaste couple that don't agonise over their situation despite not being able to be together, they just enjoy what they have and treasure each other and she's dead. I can't... He just gently kisses her fingers I- QAQ Satine is being choked to death, can barely breathe and she's still more concerned about what seeing this is doing to Obi. She reaches for him as she's stabbed and once she realises she's dying she concentrates on telling him what he needs to hear. She wants him to remember that she'll always love him, wants him to stay himself, not take revenge. She's such a beautiful person, it's such a shame she lived in a galaxy where this was always going to happen due to her ideals.
It's amazing how this animated "kids" series can introduce you to a character that is not even in many episodes, and yet her death tugs on the heart far more than any event in the sequels, save for the death of Han Solo.
1:30 maul literally looks back just to see the sadness and horror obi wan is going through, I can only imagine how satisfied he felt after completely destroying his rival mentally and turning him into a shallow husk
Man oh man. For me, this was the saddest death. Gregor's was second on my list. Edit: Wow, never checked this before; thanks for the likes guys!

Nathan Parker actually before with the rescore I found it just as good , was a bit disappointed to find it like this , it's still amazin but I wish the old version was still up
All obi did was chop maul in half because maul killed his master, and maul got better as well, I'm starting to think maul needs to take a critical thinking lesson...
If Maul would stop being angry at Obi, then he would lose his power. If he wasn't mad at Obi, then he wouldn't have survived up to this point (his hatred for Kenobi kept him alive when he was falling).
Mauls hatred for Kenobi kept him alive for 15 years. Further more, Maul was kidnapped at a young age, and submerged into the dark side by sidious. He knew no other way of life.
At 1:47 even Obi Wan himself looks broken and about to cry, but regains his resolve to not be consumed by his sorrow. Its ok, I shed tears for him every time i watch this scene. The way he kisses her hand :(
There's gotta be some Music Theory nerds out there watching this. Okay, here goes. At 1:35 it starts with the minor base (vi) chord. Then it goes to a major IV, although it sounds like it has a m7 on the end of it, then to a minor iv, then to a major III. Beginning at 2:06, it has what sounds like the minor ii again, then finally ending with an unresolved V. Something about that chord progression and the fact that it went unresolved really hit hard, and made the impact of this even worse for me. It doesn't go back to a IV, but it doesn't move back to base vi either.......somehow that unresolved chord with the brass undercurrents of suspension makes this so much sadder than it would have been if they'd immediately returned it back to the key. Did anybody else feel that way?
I just realized... So many characters die in Obi-Wan's arms. The entire sequels main characters: Qui-Gonn, Padmé and Anakin (well... not quite in his arms but BY his hand). And then Satine and Maul. Obi-Wan is like this grim reaper who if he touches you, you're doomed.
It is a light side force test... and he passes the test every time. He never acts out of anger, even when he has the most perfect of reasons. Ultimately, the force is a huge responsibility, since the power you wield is so immense.. only people with the strongest character can resist that power's siren song. This is why I love Obi-Wan's character so much. He has the same weakness we all do, but doesn't let them corrupt him to taking an easy path out and dominating those who try to torture him.
For me, saddest Star Wars moment by far. The fact that Obi Wan loved her but could not be with her bc of the code is sad, but actually losing her is worse and using her last words to reassured him that she indeed loved him all this time. The love that could've been.
Obi Wan: The truest knight; whose love for his lady was so pure it never drove him to despair or darkness, even as she died in his arms to his nemesis.
Both Obi Wan and Anakin lost a lot in their lives but while Anakin slaughtered raiders including women and children, Obi Wan cut Maul in half but didn’t sink into the dark.
That yelp she does always crushes me emotionally. It's so painful and tear-jerking to hear. That, and her words to her lover after. This situation is a man's worst nightmare come true. And Obi-Wan still forgave his worst enemy, after this and everything else he did. A true Jedi, through and through. Satine would have been proud.
I still considered Fives death to be very sad than Satine and Steela's deaths in my Opinion. Personally the saddest and most emotional Clone Wars deaths are: *Tup *Fives *99 *Savage Oppress *Miraj Schintel *Kalifa
Honestly Obi-Wan was a true master at never taking revenge or letting his anger consume him... ill even admit that I probably would have slaughter everyone in that room if I was in his position; he truly mastered the ways of the Jedi
You can see the pain and sadness in Obi's eyes as Satine died in his arms you could tell he wanted to cry considering the one he loved just died I mean who wouldn't holding back tears of sadness like that is hard.
Rey's creator and story progressor betrayed clone wars' high story writing quality. I definitely don't accept sequels as canon. So l pretend like it never happened
They got to watch it with the force healing power baby yoda did it as well in the mandolorian even though i really like that show theres inconsistencies...
And then Bo katan had the gall to say “I thought you loved my sister” as if she wasn’t the one to join a terrorist cell and help overthrow her in the first place.
I personally would have loved to see Obi-Wan fly into a rage, defeat Maul in a fierce duel in the same fashion Luke did Vader. and when Maul tempts Obi to deal the finishing blow, the latter comes to his senses, and tosses his weapon aside. Again, in the same fashion Luke did to the Emperor. It would have been amazing if they did that as a nod to ROTJ
The point of this scene was to show how Obi-Wan was different from Anakin and Luke. He is the truest Jedi in the show. While he was extremely hurt by her death, he did not turn to the Dark Side.
That is completely contradictory to what they where trying to show. He is not Luke, he is not Anakin, Obi Wan is the epitome of what a Jedi is supposed to be, and demonstrates the although understandable but irrationality of Anakin's love. Obi Wan experienced everything that Anakin did, more in fact. This was not the only time Obi Wan has lost a loved one, it was they same when some Bounty Hunter kills Siri Tachi or Darth Maul killing Qui gon or hell Darth Vader killing Anakin, his entire order, his entire family, his entire world where erased in a second, but Obi Wan is THE Jedi and he handled himself as such. Anakin never understood the meaning of life, from a young age he endeavored to end death, a natural part of life, he was unable to let go and that was his failings as a Jedi.
0:41 I find this line to be very reminiscent of Obi-wan’s character throughout Star Wars. He lost about everything and everyone he cared for but never gave in to the dark side.
It's incredible that the entire lineage of apprentices after yoda, had thoughts about, or actually did leave the order. Dooku turned to the darkside, qui-gon didnt agree with the council's place in the galaxy, obi-wan had Satine, anakin had padme, and ahsoka was cast out after years of service and loyalty to the jedi order...
In a way, I wish this show was marketed towards an older audience. Would've really loved to see them dive into his emotions following her death, he seems to get over it pretty quickly, heck, even in the episode 5 minutes after she dived he looks alright. Would've been fascinating to see more of such a mysterious, yet beloved character.
The problem is that the intended age audience of the show fluctuates on a regular basis. This episode is incredibly mature, but it came right off the heels of the youngling arc and D-squad arc, which are more kid-friendly than The Phantom Menace. There wasn't really a good way to market the show when it was first airing, partly because of the constantly fluctuating tone of the show, and the fact that individual episodes of each story arc still aired on a week-to-week basis. (So if you missed one episode, you might end up in the middle of a new storyline without context) I think Cartoon Network mostly gave up on trying to market the show by the time this season started airing. As for why they didn't delve into more of Obi-Wan's emotions in the aftermath of Satine's death, it's because the episode didn't have enough time. I think the biggest problem with Season 5 was the decision to make every single storyline four episodes long; there are some storylines (like this one) that could've gone on for much longer, and some that should've been two episodes max. But yeah, I do think the show should've dwelled (more often, at least) on the aftermath of major events. We don't really get Anakin's reaction to Pong Krell slaughtering his troops, or how he deals with Ahsoka's departure from the Order (it's implied a few times, but I wish we got more of his visceral immediate reaction and how it changed him). Though I think that's less a matter of who the show was marketed to, and more a product of the anthology nature of the show.
This show IS marketed towards an older audience, this is a PG-13 war show at most and the ONLY show on Cartoon Network that had a Warning content age rating for EVERY episode on Cartoon Network, no other show had that since the show had strippers, people getting drunk from alcohol consumption, people getting killed constantly in brutal way like suicide and decapataction despite not having any too much graphic blood, and extremely violent deaths. Some episodes are “kid friendly” than others but for the most part, the show is in the same demographic age as the movies!
0:56 part of me thinks maul was listening and having inner conflict….but Kenobis mistake was “the night sisters made it for you” that made maul snap! Because if you read the lore he was actually kidnapped by sidious against his mother’s wishes. I think that triggered maul
Give these voice actors triple what their wage was. Goddamn, whenever I rewatch this, I keep expecting it but I still always feel stabbed in the heart and react the same. On second thought, give the whole creation team triple what they made. Everything fit so well today. Really wish they kept this series going on. Or if they made a live action of this series... But staying true to the storyline.
Couple of trivia facts: James Arnold Taylor, Obi-Wan's voice actor felt that Obi-Wan should be more vocal when Satine dies in his arms. He kept saying that there just wasn't enough emotion being shown but he was told most of what Obi-Wan is experiencing would be shown entirely through his expressions. I think they were right, Obi-Wan's expressions here nail what he's feeling without him having to say anything at all. Obi-Wan and Satine, despite not ever being together in TCW proper, always speak of their love and relationship in the present tense to show how close they are and that their love hasn't died despite taking different paths in life. This even carries to Satine's final words where she tells Obi-Wan that she "always *will*" love Obi-Wan even in death, indicating she will still be with him despite no longer being alive. Obi-Wan's assumption that Maul was willingly given away by the Nightsisters to Sidious to become a Sith is exactly what happened in the Legends continuity, where Maul's well-meaning but very naive mother gave him to Sidious to "save him" so he wouldn't become another Nightbrother used as a pawn by Talzin and the rest of the Nightsisters. Of course, in canon proper Talzin WAS in fact his mother and he was stolen away from her by Sidious, leaving him no choice in the matter of becoming a Sith. Likewise, Maul's tattoos in Legends were traditional Sith markings given to him by Sidious when he was in his teens, which did make it a bit odd that no other Sith shown would possess such tattoos. The idea in canon that they were a cultural process all Nightbrothers undergo makes more sense imo as it gives Maul ties to his people and a part of his past that even Sidious couldn't erase.
When I first watched this scene, I thought that Obi-Wan would lash out at Maul with anger and hatred, tapping into the Dark Side but he just accepted the fact that she's dead and just mourned her. That's the true way of the Jedi!!
Obi-Wan lost his love, his master, his brother, his Jedi Order, his life, and everything else that he loved, and he still stayed strong.

Lucasfilm : Haha lightsaber go brrrrr.
It’s cool how Satine used her last words to tell kenobi how much she loved him
Their bickering was just sexual tension, she did ultimately love him and I think deep down he returned the favor as well. Would be an interesting hypothetical if she stepped down as Duchess and he left the order, married, and had a family and quiet life. But I don’t see either of them wanting that as they both are people who were meant to do great things. Her idealistic attempts to turn a new chapter in her people’s history, and him to go down in history as one of the greatest Jedi to have ever lived.
qui gon on the other hand told his 26 year old padawan who is just about to lose his master to take on too old, ex-slave boy as his own. wtf?

It was people like Padme and Satine that kept the last glimmers of hope for peace alive. Once they were killed or silenced, nothing could stop the entire galaxy falling apart, just like Satine with Mandalore.

When Obi Wan mentioned Maul’s village and joining the dark side, I think judging by Maul’s reaction, it looks like Obi Wan touched a nerve
Obi-Wan offered some form of compassion or understanding to Maul, which he saw as a weakness. More so, he probably thought Obi-Wan was mocking him.
Obi-Wan was trying to talk maul out of killing his girl
Maul was stolen away from Talzin and the Nightsisters by Sidious, not given to him willingly by them. Hence why Maul says “you think you know me?” immediately afterwards. Obi Wan did touch a nerve, but it was due to him making presumptions after only hearing half of the story, rather than Maul merely being offended by his act of compassion.

@@tustari
Obi-Wan far outclasses Mace in lightsaber combat though
Mace would prove himself effective against someone who doesn't shy away from using their emotions, that's why Sidious lost to him... People like Anakin, Maul, Krell etc. would be his bitch

Siri isn't canon though it is just satine
@@tustari ah, because of Obi-Wan
What tf is his first love?? Siri is not canon, he only loved Satine since he was a padawan and had a mission on mandalore with Qui Gon.

Benji Cal What? Heads role off? Anakin would have used the Force not just to disintegrate them... but to destroy the entire fucking planet!!!!
He'd probably rip Maul in half, crush everything in his sight, destroy the entire building, and the Imperial March would be playing.

Anakin, the one who wanted to be free.
Bariss, the one that saw the truth.

@@HolyknightVader999 Indeed.
@@hfar_in_the_sky Especially when Maul starts begging for mercy, and Sidious has none.
Same as he did to Qui-Gon, who lingered on in pain for the remainder of Obi-Wan's battle with Maul.

Anakin: Falls for a politician
Ahsoka: Falls for a politician
I'm beginning to sense a pattern
They all took different routes to deal with it. Anakin got married secretly and gave into his emotions, Obi-Wan accepted his feelings but never really acted on them, and Ahsoka kinda just forget about them after a few seasons.
Or George Lucas and his team have a weird fascination for politicians lol

Grand Master
I forgave him cuz i felt bad for all the shit he has went through
Honestly Maul, Savage and Obi needs therapy
I could never forgive him and I doubt that he cares about being forgiven. While Maul has depth, he’s pure evil, which in my eyes, makes him one of the best villains ever.
in my oppinion this just makes his character all the more cool
that means you hate im bro
Man for just this moment I just wish Obi-Wan would've gone HAM on Maul. I know its not the Jedi way but do what you did in Phantom Menace. Except go for the head.
This might be a unpopular opinion but for me this is the best and most well made episode of the Clone Wars series
I agree, it was amazing. Crushingly sad, but thats what makes it amazing.
It is. So much to take in from this episode. The Mandalorian civil war, death of Satine by Maul, and death of Savage by Sidious
season 5 was so amazing in general and imo season 6 or 7 don't come anywhere close to topping it
it hits harder knowing this was the original end of clone wars and i still remember watching every episode on release
I’d say the final episode of the Clone Wars ranks #1 but this is definitely #2
I remember watching this scene and it shocked me on a personal level because Obi Wan is my favorite character seeing his chance for happiness fall apart in front of him makes me feel cold and sad
Clone Wars will remain my fav of the two Disney shows because of this feeling and rather I liked the style of CW rather than Rebels.
I agree with this sentiment but Clone Wars isn't a Disney show.
Same, Obi-Wan is my favorite and this scene made me feel bad for him
@highrollerlion Rebels is better than TCW
It actually deals with grief in a way TCW never did.
It was the last one made by Cartoon Network
Hayden Berends who made season 6?
@@zigzgshodzixhoxohxh3800 It was released on Netflix
Hayden Berends oh cool I had no idea
This is the second time someone named Satine dies in front of a character played by Ewan McGregor

This is one of my favorite scenes in the show partially because of how well it shows Maul and Obi Wan’s differing philosophies but also because Satine was one of my least favorite characters in the entire Star Wars franchise and I want to give a standing ovation with cheers every time she dies.

That's actually quite good .
I wouldn't have. Because even then, perhaps more than ever, I was a Jedi. I would never be in a relationship with her. Do not feel bad for me, I made this choice because I am a Jedi above all else.

😭💔
And just the way he sets her body down gently just KILLED me😭
I didn't expect her to be killed off, but on the other hand, the way the two had feelings for each other, they had to eliminate any chance Obi Wan might give in to the temptation...
@@jayo1212I think he was strong enough to resist it, but I see your point.

Satine is being choked to death, can barely breathe and she's still more concerned about what seeing this is doing to Obi.

It’s a Pg-13 war show more than anything else. Same tone as the movies!
Why did Obi-wan have a cursed life?

Mr. Meesh Vengeance begets vengeance, Obi-Wan lashed out in Anger and vengeance with a killing blow, he sewed the seeds for Maul to come back.
If Maul would stop being angry at Obi, then he would lose his power. If he wasn't mad at Obi, then he wouldn't have survived up to this point (his hatred for Kenobi kept him alive when he was falling).
after a lot of pain tho lol.
EmDub have you seen twin suns that rebel episode
Mauls hatred for Kenobi kept him alive for 15 years. Further more, Maul was kidnapped at a young age, and submerged into the dark side by sidious. He knew no other way of life.
At 1:47 even Obi Wan himself looks broken and about to cry, but regains his resolve to not be consumed by his sorrow. Its ok, I shed tears for him every time i watch this scene. The way he kisses her hand :(
I forgot how brutal this show was, in both feels and the literal sense
Honey, probably u and i just noticed that :/
Even when Obi Wan finally struck down Maul on Tatooine in Rebels, he never took pleasure, but showed compassion for his adversary. Truly a noble Jedi.
@@rbarnes4076 the only time he acted out of anger was during his first battle with maul, after maul killed quigon

Bo Katan: "I thought she meant something to you."
Obi Wan: “She did... and still does."

+Rix Dyas And then Anakin bursts in and cuts Maul's head off!
+Helbore Yeah, that would've been awesome. him leading the 501st in the Siege of Mandalore
Helbore ''What? He was gonna blow up the ship!'' 😄
The most crushing thing is how the music just stops for a second
Darth Maul voice is so wonderful. If you had heard that voice you couldn't forget it
*_"Had you said the word, I would have left the Jedi order."_* 😢
0:41 I find this line to be very reminiscent of Obi-wan’s character throughout Star Wars. He lost about everything and everyone he cared for but never gave in to the dark side.
It's incredible that the entire lineage of apprentices after yoda, had thoughts about, or actually did leave the order. Dooku turned to the darkside, qui-gon didnt agree with the council's place in the galaxy, obi-wan had Satine, anakin had padme, and ahsoka was cast out after years of service and loyalty to the jedi order...
Instead of just putting Obi Wan in his cell alone, imagine if he put him in there with the body of Satine. That would be even worse for him.

I’m a grown ass adult (20) and I still have to hold back tears every time I watch this scene. Satine and Obi Wan deserved so much better

**Satine dies**
Obi-Wan: _"Oh well."_
**Padme might die**
Anakin: Commits genocide.
"And now, the perfect tool for my vengeance is in front of us... Well, uh in front of you, behind me. You know what I meant"
She was my favourite CW character...
