Awesome video. I hiked Mt Elbert 8 years ago, 2013. The only 14er I've ever done. Your weather was better. It got cloudy and rainy on the way back down. Your video brought back good memories. By now I've had several health issues, a knee replacement, two spinal fusions so I doubt I will ever climb another one. But I'm glad I can say I did it at one point. It did not suck !
@@togrz6372 now, its only been one fusion for me and holy cow that was enough. I joke that my pack has carbon rods to aid in the weight transfer to my hips and my back has titanium rods. 😂
Hey Andy! What a great video! As you said, this does not suck! Just being at 14k’ is no joke. Hiking up to it is straight up legendary. You really did have a perfect weather day for your summit. Hey Michael... Thanks for checking it out. It definitely took a toll on us. I trained for this but I will need to train harder next time... It was that demanding. But wow was it rewarding... So many epic views and it felt like being on top of the world... without being able to breathe. :D So glad to have been able to get this done this trip.
@@AndyParrishOutdoors I was personally surprised how much harder 14k was over 11k. Our Philmont Trail conservation project was bench cutting a trail at 10k and to me just being at 14 was harder than swinging a sledgehammer at 10! We only have 6.2k max here in NE so there isn’t much training I could do to be ready for that much oxygen deprivation! I can’t wait for the next video. Colorado is an amazing place! Take on the adventures in baby steps. It has taken me a long time to get comfortable attempting adventures like this. Start where you are... and do the smaller adventures first... The adventure begins with just a single step...
@@AndyParrishOutdoors I have done so far 5 high points (Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois) and I want to do the rest but it's no fun doing them by myself. Anyways, right now I need to find a job so that I can continue completing the high points.

This is usually way too late for a Colorado summit. There is a saying that if you haven't made it to the summit before 12 you should actually turn around. We started at around 5-5:30 am and summited around 10:30-11.

It has become the goto destination for me. Although I really have my sights set on the Winds in '21. Weather/fire permitting...

I've only had one fusion and I'm on track for a knee down the road, hopefully no time soon. I'm trying to get as many experiences in while I can.

Awesome! Congratulations! I hiked Wheeler Peak (highest point in New Mexico) last year. Planning on conquering Elbert this coming summer!

Apparently Beaver Geography considers Mount Whitney to be the tallest peak in the Rockies for some reason.
What I had found said, "Mount Whitney is part of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, not the Rocky Mountain Range."
Do you recall how early you parked your car to get started? 2:35pm is a bit late in the day, I think, to get to the summit... just curious... thx
We set out at 7:42 am according to the GPS recording. We arrived about 130pm and stayed at the summit until around 3pm...
