It’s difficult to truly and accurately describe how difficult this song is to play on the drums unless you’re a drummer who knows polyrhythms and has attempted to learn this song. Tomas Haake was already a monster before Meshuggah recorded this album (Obzen), but he spent 90% of the total time he dedicated to this album learning “Bleed” because of how demanding it was. He’s playing two different time signatures throughout the entire song. His hands are playing a straight 4/4, but his feet are playing off a different time, which means his snare is landing several different places within the various parts multiple times before it hits in the same place again. That’s very difficult to pull off in a single part let alone 8 or more parts (some of which are revisited more than once) that experience changing foot patterns that transition seamlessly and very fast. Some of the foot patterns switch the lead foot within the pattern - alluding mainly to second pattern. The chorus pattern is very difficult to find the beginning and the end of; it’s written to confuse the listener when trying to find the point where it begins. Last, adding insult to injury, is the length of the song, which demands near perfection on extreme difficulty for over 8 minutes. I’m learning this song, but I only have the first pattern down. This is DEFINITELY legendary level. I’ll be learning this song for a LONG time. Whenever I practice it, everything else seems elementary.

Gotta give props to Meshuggah's light operator, he "plays" the lights *live* in time with the band - there are videos floating around which shows him just mangling away at his control box, the one from Paris in 2012 is pretty cool (and includes parts of Bleed).

Tomas Haake (the Drummer) suffers from a herniated Disk, which makes drumming even more difficult. He had to find a way to work around it by hitting the bass drums in a different way. Check out Wikipedia - Fact or Fiction with Tomas Haake and you will learn a lot of interesting things about him being a druimmer. The first time I saw Meshugga live, was in 1996 opening for Clawfinger. One of the best concerts I had the privilege to witness.

Skill level Cyborg!!!!! Thomas Haake is the cyborg octopus! Many non-drummers think playing two different beats, one polyrhythm with your feet, and an odd time signature, with the downbeat on 3, with your hands is hard. It’s really fucking hard.. especially after playing more songs from their catalog, before and after this. I have played this song many times, and everytime, my calves and feet are just one big cramp. I eat two bananas during the mellow bridge part, and I still cramp up. It takes years of practice to play this song smoothly, and on time..

Thomas is the PERFECT analogy for ‘A duck in water’. Watching the top half of his body, he’s chillin’, hanging in the 4/4 pocket, just groovin. Then you look at his feet... and you can see perfectly... V-Tec has officially kicked in. That being said, as impressive as all their polymetric acrobatics are, it is a force to behold when they go straight 4/4 time. I STRONGLY recommend Meshuggah’s ‘Demiurge’. You gotta do Meshuggah's Clockworks... talk about polyrithmic drumming... it's like 7 layer burrito from the 4th Dimension. Tomas Haake is Legendary Master Drummer God.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘

Listen to The Demon's Name Is Surveillance by Meshuggah! Same type of endurance throughout the whole song, amazing rythms

It's even heavier, but if you want to see another absolutely insane drummer, there's a drum cam video for The Faceless - Planetary Duality. They're a technical death metal band, and the drummer in the vis is insane

One of the most technical bands out there. Mind-blowing. Check out Of Blood & Salt... The guitarist of Meshuggah, Gorjira's front man and Devin. A Perfect Storm. 🤘🔥🤘

Please react to Zakk Wylde - Black Label Society - In This River - Live In Paris(2006). Zakk (ozzy osbourne's long time guitarist) is one of the greatest guitarists alive today. Thanks.

Great song. I would start a little more commercial friendly from their selection then dive in to the complex stuff. I usually suggest Demiurge or maybe Do not look down. Glad you could enjoy it regardless. Would love to see more!

Meshuggah - Swarm has a very interesting drumming too. They're playing with time and your head. INCREDIBLE. Do the fan-made video on VIMEO if you can. You won't get through mentally.

I was wondering whether you would be interested in two bands in particular? Eluveitie is a folk metal band from Switzerland, their songs King and Rebirth would appeal to your senses of melody as well as being in the metal genre. As well, I’ve never seen anyone react to Tyr, a Viking metal band from the Faroe Islands. I think you would greatly enjoy the song The Lay of Our Love, a duet with a female vocalist, which is absolutely gorgeous workmanship

    Red white and blue lights:
    Red-drums = ammo
    White-vocals = warning
    Blue-Guitar = consciousness
    Hype..

I don’t know why, but I enjoy the musical reactions of black guys (and girls) much more. And you are the most enjoyable. Greetings from Russia :)
My suggestion for next Meshuggah song is Clockworks. You can find the version with only drum cam from studio if you want

After discovering your page a few days ago I specifically went back through a bunch of your videos to see if you had done a "Bleed" rection yet. Was definitely not disappointed! lol
You should check out Between the Buried and Me too! Their drummer is equally awesome. Some good songs would be Telos, Prequel to the Sequel, Swim to the Moon, White Walls, Bloom, The Ectopic Stroll, and so many more.
Love your channel man! You have a new fan!

Å friend of mine from Sweden knows him well.
    He is a machine.
My favourite drummer is Gavin Harrison of Porcupine tree. A more refined drummer. Check out "Anesthetize" (live from Tillburg) great progressive!
