I love Diane Keaton from the bottle of my heart and her performance in "Something's Gotta Give" is a landmark, it's an unforgettable portrait of a mature woman in love. But what Theron did in "Monster" is beyond words... She's absolutely terrific and extraordinary.
Jolisha K I first saw 'Monster' about 5 years after it first came out, & I agree with you 100% !! Charlize was just absolutely phenomenal in it. There's a 15-minute video (here on RUclips) about the making of 'Monster', and it shows everything behind-the-scenes including Charlize's off-camera emotional breakdown after one scene in particular (where she shot the man execution-style who told her that his daughter was having a baby & pleading for his life by telling her "You don't have to do this", referring to Aileen getting ready to shoot/kill him.) This movie took such an emotional toll on Charlize, especially since *_in-real-life,_* back in 1991, Charlize's father (a major alcoholic) physically attacked Charlize's mother right in front of her, and he shot at both Charlize's mom _and_ Charlize. Charlize's mom went and grabbed her own handgun, and shot Charlize's dad, killing him. No charges were filed against Charlize's mom since the shooting was 100% justified. Anyways, I agree with you completely. The 15-minute video I mentioned is titled: "Based on a True Story: The Making of Monster" and it's on the RUclips channel 'bigfattabbydave'. It was posted in June of 2015.
This category was exceptional. My pick has always been Charlize but the older I get the more I appreciate Naomi's work in 21 Grams. The other three were superb, too. Keisha's nomination was inspired.
@@samsong24 lol. You would lose that bet because I did see 21 Grams. I saw all those performances nominated that year. Naomi's crying when she found out her family died was not convincing. I think Jennifer Connelly in the House of Sand and Fog should have taken Naomi's spot.
I first saw Charlize Theron in a film called The Devil's Advocate, which I didn't much care for, except for her performance, which was breathtaking. I just saw Monster tonight for the first time and if anyone deserves an award for film acting, it's her.
I just watched Monster again after more than 20 years and Charlize´s acting blew my mind away again.... such a great acting it was a tour de force she transformed into that poor woman who turned into a serial killer...
Wild to see Naomi with Heath Ledger. He would have won multiple Oscars if he lived. Same with River Phoenix and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Drugs and Hollywood man. Damn.
Omg! I was looking for the Charlize's video! Thnks for this! Great job. I love to watch the movies clips. This is one of greatest performance ever! 5:28 😢
Thank you so much for posting this! I’ve been in search for this for many years, as these segments are MUCH better with the clips of the nominees featured. If you can find Halle Berry’s, that would be awesome and spectacular!!!!
On something Hillary Swank in "Boys Don't Cry", Charlize Theron in "Monster" and Jodie Foster in "The Accused" are very similar, because all three films are about rape, but all three are very powerful films.
Любчо Николов "Boys Don't Cry" was indeed a *phenomenal* movie !! 💯 I've never seen "The Accused", but as far as 'Monster' and 'Boys Don't Cry' are concerned, I don't think I could choose one over the other. They're both so powerful. Edited to add: Neither 'Boys Don't Cry' or 'Monster' have been shown on TV in _years._ They would need to be shown on an actual movie channel (which doesn't censor the content), or else they'd have to cut out _too_ much and the movies wouldn't even be worth watching. The last time I remember seeing Monster on (cable) TV, was about 14 years ago on IFC ('Independent Film Channel'), and I can't even remember the last time Boys Don't Cry was even on TV. (When _I_ saw it, I had rented it on DVD when video-rental stores were still a thing, lol.)
@@morganjanelle4282 Yes, I am from another country in Europe and it is the same with us. They gave "Monster" 2 times on 2 different channels and never again, and the Boys Don't Cry gave it only once on a program in our country. The program is called FOX and gave it to 1 at night.
Theron put up one of the most extraordinary performances in that role. Though I have to acknowledge Naomi Watts in 21 Grams. She was also incredible, and in my opinion would have won that Oscar if it were a film released in any other year.
In fact, this Oscar ceremony was held on February 29, 2004, on what would have been Aileen's 48th birthday. She was born on February 29, 1956, and was executed on October 9, 2002.
She must have not gotten invited to the oscars. Unless if she couldn't make it due to working on another movie or something. Christina Ricci is a very talented actress. So is Charlize Theron. Charlize totally fitted the part of Aileen Wuornos in Monster. It amazes me every time I watch that movie how the make up department in that movie was able to make her look very similar to the real Aileen Wuornos. Christina did great also in that movie.
One of the best performances to ever win an Oscar!
One of the most heartfelt speeches I've ever heard, she sounds so sincere!

Same, but I have just watched it. The performance is stunning 🤩

and same me. Naomi in 21 Grams.
Charlize gave one of the best performances in history. No way did Naomi Watts did not deserve it.
@@missdee4927 I'm willing to bet you haven't seen it. Also, I said that I appreciate the performance more and more...not that I give her the win.

When she said "and my mom...", dang, I never heard her voice squeaked like that.
Knowing what we all know, I wanna hug her mom.
Naomi's clip was great, very powerful.
That was hard to watch.... movie. Heartbreaking.
totally agreed i watched it repeatedly
Charlize was a perfection on but naomi was good. Her role was heartbroken
Naomi .. just hard to watch, the whole movie. She was brilliant. Absolutely heartbreaking. And the scene I'M GONNA KILL HIM !!! THE BEST

Powerful!
@@jburlesonactor1 so powerful. I love Naomi's clip in this, too. Gives me chills.

Que hermosa ella...agradeciendo a todo su entorno por el logro...y dedicandoselo a su tierra natal...
... What was his plan if Keisha Castle Hughes was the winner?

Having rape in the plot is not "about rape".
Even to this day, she still makes one feel proudly South African. Forever OUR golden girl.🇿🇦
Naomi would have won pretty much any other year but that one.
She could've at least dedicated this to the pain n sorrow of Aileen..who's difficult life brought so much success in hers

2:33 I mean, this is pretty funny..... until you remember Keisha was 14 🤪 it would’ve been awkward if she had won 🤣
I was thinking the same thing but than again it’s Hollywood, for them it’s the norm.
Bien merecido, una gran actriz, y bien merecido su actuación en Monster es impecable.
...and a special shout out to Aileen Wuornos..... whose life events brought me here.

Obviously this bitch wasn't going to even remember the woman whos misery was responsible for so much success in her life
Diane Keaton was probably the second place finisher, if you will.
Yes she was the second favorite that year but still had no chance against this masterpiece of acting.
@@missdee4927 nobody actually
She absolutely fn deserved this Oscar ❤🎉

There had to be at least one black actress to nominate that year.
There was a black actor nominated in supporting actor.
Well, Keisha Castle-Hughes is not white.
@@Michael-xi9nb exactly. She's Maori.
