Thank You. 50 Chevrolet stealerships disliked this. Good job.
Very thorough diagnostic, hard to find a knowledge mechanic like you these days. I took my 2002 Yukon to the dealer and was quoted 3300.00. I was like ok right, gtfoh. Fixed it myself for 120.00 Aronov rear shock. Smh
I have a 2000 GMC Yukon XL -- that has Been switched to Conventional ( Spring / Shocks ) I need to Know How to Clear the " Ride Contro " Light in the Dash Message Center.!! Strurmasters WILL NOT SELL THE RESISTOR TO NON- CUTOMERS...!! So ...
What resistor Do I Buy...?
Or Will the 10 minutes waitng Period without the Battery Positive Cable-- Clear/ or Reset the Computer...so the Light will Stay Off...? I need Some Solid Answers... What to Do
To Clear the Message...So it Won't Return, Thanks in Advance...BillinL.A. 1-23-2021.
great stuff i have just replaced my tmps and reset it according to your instruction and all warnings are now off ! Took me less than 5 min.
Exactly what I needed to know. Thanks for posting, you saved me a ton of unnecessary aggravation 👍👍..Subbed
Good job on finding the open circuit. I see the same problem all the time on tractor trailers with the abs sensors.
c dtm Noo km
what if everything works, but the sensor doesn't trigger the pump at the correct height? my car rides too low at the rear, but if I remove the linkage for the ride height sensor from the control arm and move it up as high as it will go, the compressor will come on and inflate the shocks. I hear it come on when I'm driving sometimes, but it never stays on long enough to get the rear up to the height it should be at
awesome video!! im having the same issues with my 2002 escalade very informative.
G_Vegas did you ever fix the issue my 2003 Escalade ext has a stability control issue. Seem to be hard to fix and make code go away from my research
@@guesswho2237 did you get fired your Escalade?
Outstanding! The attention to detail and inclusion of all the "little steps" sets this video apart from others. I make it a habit to not comment on RUclips, but this video warrants a praise.
What kind of diagnostic machine do you have when that you're using on this vehicle appreciate it thanks a lot Mike from North Carolina
Would you please get straight to the point , quit hum halling around .
Hey great job Tim, I have a GMC Yukon XL Denali that is giving me a service message on the suspension. Your video will help me get started diagnosing the problem. Also I was wondering what kind of flash light you were using?
Cool fix . Most of them here has been because the shocks blow out, Then compressor runs and goes out . I have had good luck using Arnott , shocks and compressors .
+wtbm123 You know I forgot to talk about watching for leakage. Good call. I'll have to look into the products you mentioned. Thanks for the feedback.
That's the ride height sensor bud. Speed sensor is on axle 👍
That threw me off too. Thx
Very detailed and informative!!! Thank you sir. Much respect for your work and expertise.
Great job! straight forward and to the point. I feel like you are looking right into my soul during the intro ;-)
🤣🤣🤣
😉😂🤣😂
Thanks for the great video! This really helped me and wished I had that electronic device that checked the modules to find what was failing
Damn good repair work! I enjoyed watching this video.
Thanks my suburban had corrosion on three wires going to the plugins to the rear compressor. Got them fixed and the whole compressor assembly works great
Great video. I just switched to arnotts and replaced the compressor. Everything felt great on the test drive. When I got back and started it again the service ride control came on. 🤦🏾♂️
Hello Tim. Love your videos... Very informative and helpful.
Rick here from Pasadena Newfoundland... I have a 2007 Avalanche that is plagued with an assortment of issues. One being the Service Suspension. I connected my Autel 708 scanner it I got a Rear Right Level Sensor fault. I replaced the sensor today and same issue.
Real time data shows both front sensors reading Absolut 1.43 volts. Rear Left reads around 1.81 volts.... My rear Right maintains 5 volts all the time... Old one read the same. I'm going to have a look at the wiring harness as you have done in your video.
Do you have any other suggestions???
Thanks... Keep up the great work.
PS... I may be looking for some other help later.... Lol
Nice work Tim in showing how to diagnose and make the repairs. And thanks for taking the time to film it to show others how to do this. And as always, be sure to have a good one!
+stuzman52 No thanks necessary, i enjoy doing it. I will have a good one and hope you do the same!
Just wanted to thank you for your help. I have a 2014 Escalade ESV and found the left rear wire worn threw from the plastic rubbing on it for years. Great job very informative.
What did you do to fix?
Hey Tim, my Air ride does not work at all now, and the sensor warning is on for the exhaust solenoid, can you tell where to find it and where I can get a replacement for my 2007 Cadillac Escalade ESV
Yes thanks man this video is awesome I just purchased a 05 Denali xl for 600 from the auction because the dash said service traction system this is definitely a DIY project thank you
Just be careful. “Service traction system” is not the same as “service suspension system”. The traction system involves the antilock brakes and four wheel drive components ( including possible wheel bearing wear problems). Suspension refers to ride height issues.
Question:
I got through replacing my rear shocks and pump(03' Yukon Denali) with Arnott equipment. They worked great and even supported/leveled our camp trailer👌 But when I unhook from the trailer the shocks only let out a little air and go down slightly. The vehicle rides high now. I have heard of a Bumpstop setup and ALC Trimset procedure. Would that help me out?
Thanks
Ben
Curious as to how you resolved that issue. Pls enlighten
How do you permanently remove the error message once switching to standard shocks?
Great video. I bought a 03 Escalade with the same air ride in the rear. The compressor was a rusted mess and prob had not worked for years. The air shocks were also torn so I had to replace shocks and compressor. I figured the compressor ran non stop to inflate the torn shocks and just died. No dash light though.
What type of obd2 reader do you have and the exact model of the brand, cause I have a obd2 reader and can't send a command to test to check the suspension. Heck mine don't even pull up obd2 fault code for the suspension, even when the check suspension message comes on smh. If you could give a link to the exact one you have would be greater. I have the same vehicle with similar issues, thanks!
Made everything look so easy.😳wish more people had these skills ☺️
I can tell you right now this guy is gonna make it big. Great content.
+no name (mjhcsd) Wow thanks for the confidence boost! I appreciate that. Thanks for dropping by.
Thanks for video. Just bought 07 Tahoe with this issue.
Don't understand how you could have 64 thumbs down. I found it very helpful thank you working on a Cadillac SRX
The stealerships are giving all the thumbs down lol!
Great video. You are an awesome teacher. Keep up the good work!!
You are dead on about the ride height sensor rods. Got the SRC message on my 04 Escalade and while doing a visual inspection, found the left front rod seized and broken off at its lower ball joint. Replaced it with one from a junkyard and the message cleared without having to take it to a shop. I put some oil on all of the ball joints. BTW, the front and rear rods are different lengths, and each sensor is different (marked L or R). Thank you very much.
Very good and informative repair by the way. Awesome job!
Only problem is that you are supposed to replace the evaporator unit which is part of the autoride system whenever you open an air line otherwise moisture will kill the shock seals
Hello do you know how to replace front electric struts on 2013 XTS platinum??? If you please send me instructions. I need help please!!
Wow lost my comment. Thank you for your well informed videos😁👍 I am female mechanic with same year Chevy suburban, have service stability message on my dash. I now know what to look for with out a code reader because your so helpful. Thank you. You are appreciated!👍 Merry Christmas🎄🎀🎁
With quality content like this, I instantly subscribed. Thank you for your service to fellow decent humans looking for comprehensive self education about auto repairs. I was shown this channel by my older veteran brother who is normally the "go to" for automotive questions of ALL kinds.
Thanks for the info. Have the message on a 2011 Yukon. I guess I need to have a garage scan it and they can tell me which is bad that I can then replace. Great video by the way..Subscribed and looking forward to more
Can the sensor rods be adjusted? Would like to lower the rear 1 inch and raise the front 1 inch this will level out my 06 denali.
Hello Tim
I live your videos
They are very informative and helpful. I was stationed at Ft. Richardson during 1995-1998. Stay on Juneau Street Apt #B. Love my stay there. Diamond Mall, 4th Avenue mall, Fred Myers, and so on. Let me not forget Crazy Horse 😂. All soldiers know about that😂
Nice video. Excellent job on the wire to the suspension sensor. Not many would do that good a job (heat shrink and extra protection loom. My only thought would be the rear shocks being replaced however, they are rather expensive parts "just for good measure" ($280 ea) unless they were worn and/or leaking air.
Performing the conversion shock route sounds like a good idea however, there's got to be a good reason to stick with the Delco (Z55 RPO) rear shocks.
Yes the shocks would have been a good call but the customer was trying to save money. The vehicle actually had engine problems a few months after and the customer chose not to invest any more money in it. Thanks for watching!
What are the disadvantages of going with the "conversion" (aka Arnott) rear shocks when equipped with the Z55 electronically controlled self-leveling air shock (autoride) suspension?
Great video lots of really good info. When you were explaining the problem at the left wheel, your light was so bright that i could not see what you were talking about regarding the bad wiring and damage you found. Might have been better if the light was pointed away enough for us to see the colors better but not so much that you and us can't see what your doing. Hopefully that makes sense. Btw, I liked that little hot air tool you used to shrink the the shrink tube. What is it and do you remember where you got it or can get it? Also - after you installed the new pump you tested the pump and system before the test you showed us right?
Thanks for the tip on the lighting. I'll talk to my production crew. The heat gun is a cheap one I bought at NAPA. I just never forked over the big bucks for a nice heat gun. My lips are sealed regarding prior testing to verify operation before filming. Would you think less of me? Hehe
+The Car Doctor - heck no - the master teaches and us dweeb shut da ole pie hole an learn is what I think. ;)
haha, IM still looking forward to having a BBQ in your back yard and eating some huli huli chicken with ya!
Very helpful video.... I followed your steps along with some of the other videos online and completed the job successfully. One tip I would like to offer is to use electrical tape to wrap around your socket wrench parts to keep them attached when you are working on that one hidden bolt. My socket came loose inside that cavity so I had to fish it out with a magnet.... and then I used the wrapped tape on my second attempt and it helped keep it from coming loose.
What about a continues pump running?
Thanks Car Doctor. Your "how to" videos are the best I've found anywhere. Most helpful, accurate, on target, no BS, clear, concise, and complete information always delivered quickly and effectively. Thanks so much Sir!!!
Need Help....!! My 200 GMC Yukon Xl had the " Ride Control " System Changed out to an Adjustable / Nozzle ---- air Shock System.
I am Happy with the Air Shocks. ! Now I need the " Ride Control Service" Light to Go Off for Ever.... Can't I just Pull some Fuses...or Relay.... And the Message will Stop Showing...? If So , Which Ones...? Also some RUclips Videos Discuss putting in a Resistor inline, near where the Air Compressor Used to be...But What Resistance is the Resistor...? And Where do You Solder it In...?
I tried calling. "Strutmasters" ( I believe that was the Name of the Co. ), and they Refused to Discuss the Resistor Information , unless I Had Purchased Their Aftermarket System....to Support the Rear End ".
So far I've got No Where on this....and The Message Continues Daily.... UGH..!!
BillinL.A. 5-30-2021.
How do you remove and test sensor?
So it hasn't worked in years but lets over night the pump.
😂😂
excellent troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair job! i love this. wish u can work on my cars
What kind of code reader are you using? That is a nice one.
I have a 2009 Tahoe 4x4 Z55 and I just replaced the front shocks with what are supposed to be factory replacements. The old shocks were completely shot, leaking. I never had a code. After replacing them I took a drive and the ride was better. I stopped and disconnected the wire from the driver's side shock, drove about a mile and recieved no code. Thinking the new connector might have a bypass I disconnected the new connector and still no code.
If there are no codes is it safe to assume it it functioning properly? And how do ensure that it is functioning as intended.
Thank you for your time.
best repair video Ive seen, nice job of explanation while making the repairs.
Great Detailed Information and You just do Nice Work🙂
Great video I had the compressor and shocks replaced but after installing them still wouldn’t come on and couldn’t get the codes cleared out any suggestions?
It's not a wheel speed sensor
My 2001 gmc Yukon is shutting off after driving it for a few minutes and then cranks back up and drives again for a few more minutes then shuts back off again and again
Great video 👍 you explain everything clearly. Thank you I learned a lot.
Do you have any recommendations on a reasonable scanner that would communicate with the suspension of my Cadillac XTS as I installed new original equipment struts and have had a suspension warning on dashboard every time I start the car ever since
My suburban has the rear air shocks over INFLATED. They will not release the pressure. HELP
I went to look up a video and found this . 6years later haha.. I have a 2007 Tahoe with no air suspension, where do you get this module or do I have other issues?
Quick question is it ok to drive without this air compressor? Or by not having it would it mess up your suspension on the long run?
If I said it was fine to operate and someone died that would suck.
Will blow out the air bag on shock faster if your shocks don't have the air in them.
I have a y 2004 cadillac escalade.i got a message on the dash saying service ride control after changing out air shock and the air compressor what should I do car doctor please guide me
I love the way you don't rush and explain everything. Excellent source of knowledge.
I have 2009 cadillac escalade n my compressor no turn on, what do you think it’s bad??
what if its fuse or relay which to check and location of correct fuse or relay?
He had a scanner that showed it was sending voltage. No need to check the fuse. The dude is a real mechanic.
Nice Accent
My 03 Yukon XL Denali has some issues but rides good but also has 286k. Lol
what is there a free Chevy obdii scanner that will interact with the sensors and pump
something laptop or Bluetooth based
Great my good friend TIM!! Very important "advice" to all "DIY" before condemning any parts; Please " Don't be a parts changer" ALLWAYS ; First verify: Circuit Integraty = positive(feed side), negative(ground side) and signal(control side) from wiring harness. This procedure confirms that both the wiring and the "pcm driver" are in good shape! NO open or shorts at the wiring and good signal respond!! VERY IMPORTANT$$$$$$$$$$$$$!!!!!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT, SEEK FOR HELP BEFORE DOING ANY PROCEDURE! CAN FINISH BURNING OR FRYING YOUR "PCM-ECU-MODULE ECT.. ECT.."
I love your dedication to proper diagnosis! I don't always spend the time testing like I should. Thanks for the reminder to test and confirm circuits before throwing parts at it. Take care my friend!
That was fun, entertaining and educational. I enjoyed it very much!
Thanks for sharing!
+Rick Anderson Thanks Rick!
Would the rear shocks still be good to hold air if the systems has not been working for a couple of years?
Probably but as others have said here it's possible that a leaking shock can cause a pump failure to begin with so that's always a possibility.
Hey Tim,
I was stationed at Ft. Richardson from 95' to 98'.
Thank you for your service. It’s now called JBER for “Joint Base Elmendorf Richardso”
What scanner do you use?
Same question
Thank you so much I have a 2001 Denali, and my air ride suspension quit working was quoted $2,050 dollars this video so helpful
You are a true professional, very well done with your presentation keep up the good work
Since the wire was bad will it stop the compressor from running?
I started seeing this system message on my 2020 Tahoe that has 28k miles. Not happy about it.
Excellent diag and repair, Tim. Couldn't have done it better myself. {:-)
I appreciate that.
i install new shocks rear and front and still it bumps hard should i just change pump
Thanks! you have been a great help. Best video i have seen on this issue.
What’s the torque spec on the lug nuts I think I way over tighten mine. Oops
I believe the lugs torque at 140 LBS
Very interesting. I've never worked on air suspension or seen anyone else work on it. Sure wouldn't want to maintain it on anything I own. Another good job Tim.
+dan andy We see them often in the shop. Most people don't bother fixing these because of the expense. The systems work really well for towing and keeping the rear from squatting under a load. Not sure they are worth the hassle. Thanks for dropping in!
I have the same problem, my air suspension is not working I was told that I need to replace the solenoids
Dealer just did new tires and alignment . Took 5 hours they said alignment rack broke. Two days later I get service suspension code.. could it be they did something wrong ?
Humans do make mistakes.
I have a 07 escalade replaced compressor and shocks and the rear is still even with the front! Can the ride height sensor be worn out to where they don't activate to go higher? And the module also got replaced and still same height
Does it have any codes?
The Car Doctor nope no codes
remove positive from batt for 20 min...let the computer relearn
Que trabajo muy bueno y que bien explicado maestro doctor y seguimos a prendiendo
+Pinocho Orellana gracias Señor
Hell yeah Anchorage Alaska!
My cesspool!
Well buddy I would have fixed it exactly the same if I was up in Alaska watching you do it. 👍👍
+STEVE ROB Well we would certainly share a beer after a successful repair! Thanks for the vote of confidence as always buddy. Have a great Sunday!
I have a 2016 Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi. I am getting the Service Air Suspension message beeping at me sometimes 30 or 40 times a day. The suspension system is working fine. I have been to two different dealerships and nothing is stored in the computer memory and there is nothing they can do. It comes off and on very quickly and of course will not come on when at the dealership. Doesn't matter anyway cause there is nothing in the computer,,,,,,so they don't know what to fix. This is driving me crazy. I can go a few days and it will not beep, then it beeps constantly for days on end. If anyone has found a way to fix this I would greatly appreciate some insight on this.
I have an 08 Suburban LTZ with Autoride. My Suspension warning light was on. I replaced both rear air shocks, the compressor and installed new lines. The warning was off for a short time. Now the suspension warning comes on and off. Any idea what this might be?
Alaska resident here too. Great videos bud. Need to get my 2018 Yukon Denali magneride recalibrated. Where are you located? Haha
Don't know if this has been asked before but after replacing suspension parts do the bumpstop and alc trimsets need to be recalibrated. Is that a dealer only type of fix? Are there any affordable scanners that can recalibrate? Thanks!
Don’t be clipping your flashlight on the fender it’s on the paint going to scratch dudes truck .
I dont do that.
Cheers for the Video! Sorry for the intrusion, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Trentvorty Safe Vehicle Theorem (do a search on google)? It is a good one off product for discovering how to repair your car the simple way minus the hard work. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my best friend Jordan finally got excellent results with it.
hello, question, before my ESCALADE the compressor was running, but a shocks threw the oil and the compressor was not turned off and until the fuse melted, when I replaced the fused melt, as if it sent the signal to turn on, but it would melt again So try with 2 more fucibles until I no longer send the signal to turn on, I really do not know what the problem is now, thank you very much, if someone could help me!
What after market system is he referring too
So I serviced all the parts. Had a blown 40amp fuse, replaced the compressor and air shocks. Do i need to clear the codes via computer or pull the negative battery terminal toget the compressor to run again? I have constant 40aml hot and ign/switchable 'seo/alc' 10amp at the relay connection but i think the the ground to 'esc' module isn't doing it's job. New compressor runs when jumped at the relay connection.
Great Video! I have an 03 Envoy with air ride. I was changing my brake pads when I noticed the sensor had broken off at the control arm. I plastic welded it back together. After seeing your video I realized I needa new one. THANKS.
I just had a GM Garage replace both rear air shocks and compressor on my 06' Cadillac Escalade ESV w/ 99,686 miles on it. The cost of two air shocks was 1300. + 571.00 for a compressor and 298.00 labor = 2169.00 Grand total ( All GM PARTS ) Is this about the going rate for parts and labor?
My 2005 Denali all wheel drive has a magnetic ride control in the front. The shock doesn't appear to have coil springs over it. Has something been removed how does this front suspension work without coil springs or leaf springs.
