    It's often so much more useful to see tutorials from people like you who are relatively new to a skill rather than people who have so much expertise that they can't even remember what it was like not knowing the skill. Thanks!

    • @MrTonka
      @MrTonka 6 лет назад +20

      This is an excellent sign that VanCan is great at explaining how to learn a skill. Cause he ain't new at it. :) But i know exactly what you mean. The lucky ones who learned to ride bikes as kids learned all of this in a very different way than most adults. Most of us aren't willing to sacrifice our bodies over and over again to learn skills quickly, which means we require more of an analytical break down of how to learn the skill and what to do every step of the way. Totally agree with you!

    • @jpsinger16
      @jpsinger16 6 лет назад +11

      @@MrTonka Yeah, I realized after I posted that I may have misinterpreted how new VanCan was to bunny hopping. His ability to explain how he worked through the learning process himself is pretty unique among tutorials. Too many instructors go straight to demonstrating perfect form and ignore the baby steps that it takes to get to that point.

    • @MrTonka

      Yeah, this guy actually knows something about pedagogical techniques. Explaining things broken up into a lot of digestible cpieces for example. Also learning in this piece-sized steps. An example of "well-meant but way to skilled and not pedagogical sound" is Phil Kmetz. He is really friendly and tries to improve his audiences skills, but that guy did his first backflip on skis at age of 8 or 9 IIRC. So he was way out of our league in terms of body control even before he had passed primary school. And I noticed that in his tutorials. ;)

    Many thanks to you for posting this. I rode mountain bikes a lot in the '90s and read many articles on how to bunny hop but none of them managed to get their message across to me. It just never clicked.
    I got back into mountain bikes again a few years ago and have watched many videos that, while going into more detail, also failed to work for me.
    And then I watched yours. And after a couple of days trying the steps I actually got the front up followed by the back a few times. If there had been a fly on the ground I would have cleared it : ) A small start but, for me, an important one.
    I have to add to your comment about grippy pedals and say I agree 100%. Unfortunately, when you don't concentrate properly and try several hops in succession it can lead to a foot slipping off. And when you do this twice in two days and hit exactly the same spot with your RF Chesters I can testify than it hurts like......... I'll let everyone use their own phrase here.

    I've seen handful of very good videos on YT for beginners and I'll actually come back to them. But I still had problems figuring out the bunnyhop until I saw your video. As always - the most important thing is to go out and practice!
    One thing that can really really help with the rear wheel lift, as well as jumps and bunny hops, is the stomp, a quick preload\push into the pedals. So you can actually use the suspension. You're actually doing it in this video on the "two-wheel bunnyhop" or level lift, so its there, just start using it at an earlier stage to lift the front wheel and rear wheel separately.
    Thanks for the video, really good insights on how to progress starting from the basics.

    I've been saying I need to learn to bunny hop for a while; and it honestly comes down to practice time. Just need to visit a parking lot...

    Good video, I have no problem with the 2 wheel bunny hop its just the "Correct way" I have a problem with because I have been doing the two wheel one for so long its just trying to reprogram my brain for the motion of the new one and getting out there and practicing.
