This brings back sweet memories of my first ride with family when me & my siblings were kids. Best experience ever! We spent an average of 2-3 weeks every year camping in the monongahela national forest at laurel fork campground. We started out very young camping & kept doing it until junior/senior year of HS. It’s my love & second home away from home. The mountains are my happy place. ❤
The 6 Chime on 11 this year is an original. You can see steam shooting out of the side where the vertical valve once was installed. I think the Heisler was delivered to Cass with that whistle and you can hear it in old audio clips. It sounds absolutely gorgeous!
Beautiful very beautiful you made things wonderful good useful make human life happy you science education original God bless you and protect you I love 💘 it ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤,,,,,is it can walk more speed
@@WMRRFIREBALL A few years back they got smokeless coal and nothing they did could make them smoke. They switched back later. The smokeless coal was actually a big selling point on certain passenger train lines back in the day cuz no one wanted to get dirty when traveling in style or see that mess.
oh wow ! you guys are doing your part to save the planet and the eviroment - geez - give me a break how come the epa isnt crawling up your rear end like the rest of us
They did switch to vegetable oil to lube the external gearing and to be more enviro-friendly. Also, coal exhaust is more heavy dust and ash than actual gasses. There is the mercury issue. There are only a handful of these old machines left, so they are not the massive threat that millions of cars and giant power plants are.
Cass has run wood, coal, and oil burners in the past (especially back in the day) but they all are set up to run coal today. I liked the oil burner as a kid cuz I'd not get cinders in my eye from it.

Nice to see all those trains running together
Yes it is!
In certain spots on the Greenbrier line, you can definitely tell where the tracks had been washed out!

Thank you for the comment! It was one of the most beautiful whistles I've ever heard.
@@cassscenicproductions8888 I've been to Cass many times but haven't been able to hear it in person. Its a bit illusive.
Last I heard this whistle in person was in the fall of 2005. Artie Barkley with the heisler. Love this whistle.
Also. Hi Ryan. :)

И мне. Я в россии. Это только могу мечтать😢
I was at Cass a week before this event
I was there that day. Took lots of photos and videos. I was wearing a black t shirt saying One Track Mind
Awesome!
What about that 2-truck Heisler that should be Lettered and Numbered for Cass? is that Steve Deihl running 2? What about McCurdy 12?
Durbin Rocket Climax 3 deserves to join in too!
Honestly idk what happened to the rocket
What whistle on #2? It’s awesome! Sounds either Western Maryland or Illinois Central.
Illinois Central it sounded great in the mountains!

Shay no. 5 has the same Whislte from 2022
Is there even a way to fire a shay good enough to avoid all that smoke?
I see them sometimes when there fired with their stack clean but most of the time there is a good amount of smoke.
This year actually has less smoke than previous years. They can run clean but the visitors want to see smoke coming out of the stack.

Are these coal or wood burners? Being made haul wood, I figure they had lots of wood available. The smoke seems to be grey, but I'm just guessing.
They are coal fired.
