Cass Scenic Railroad - Parade Of Steam 2023

- On June 17th of 2023, Cass held their annual Parade of Steam event. 4 Shays and a Climax all put on a show for over 2000 people. Luckily, we had great weather, and everyone had a great time. This year the whistle lineup consisted of a Manns Creek 3 Chime on Climax 9, Lunkenheimer 3 Chime on Shay 4, Homemade 3 Chime on Shay 5, Powell 3 Chime on Shay 11 and my favorite whistle on Cass Shay 2's Reading 6 Chime. After the Parade Cass hosted 1 hour long trips along the Greenbrier line, luckily, I booked the Caboose and had a very relaxing ride to end the incredible day off. This year Shay 11 was the star of the Parade as it turns 100 years old this year. Thank you to everyone who was involved in an event and all of the crews as well as Walter Scriptunas! Shoutout to all the railfans I met that day. As always thanks for watching and stay tuned for more Cass videos in the near future!
Note: The Reading 6 Chime on 2 is the same one it had last year at the Parade, but it was fixed earlier this year and now can fully sound all 6 chimes.

They usually put the Mockingbird on during Halloween weekend at Cass.

Maybe one day those steam locomotives sitting on the flat cars, and that locomotive that hasn't been torn apart can be restored someday.

Have they ever blown the Old Sawmill whistles on the engines? still have those whistles in the museum but I was just curious.
Not that I know of. Maybe back when it was owned by the state when they had those whistle blow events.

@@cassscenicproductions8888 I just got a 3 truck Heisler with the CASS Scenic Railroad on the tender by Rivarossi and It's a real honour hearing from you + I asked broadway limited to produce a shay locomotive directly and they have granted my wish.

Im curious to ask, why do both shay 4 and 5 have 2 completely different makes of whistle, but both of them sound very similar. And that they both sound like princeton 3 chimes?
There's not really a good answer for that question. There are both 3 chimes, and they both are a little similar sounding. Although the one on 5 is a step top and the one on 4 is a flat top.

@@RailfanLoy Supposedly its one of the rarest whistles in existence from at least one source I read. Ive heard claims that there are only like 3-4 examples of these Powells left.

Heisler 6 could be in next years Parade. Shay 11 is wearing a Powell 3 Chime.
