I love when Nancy at the end of her opening solo, grabs a guitar pick from the mic stand, pulls back and telegraphs to the audience "hang on to your butts, here it comes"!
Heart emerged from an era when lead guitarists received just as much if not more spotlight as the vocalist. AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, The Runaways, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith. Heart was no exception. Nancy got mad respect.
@@headlibrarian1996 Don't quote me on this but if I remember correctly, the band was pretty much already formed before Nancy came into the picture. I also remember reading something, that she preferred playing rhythm over lead.
Two historically talented sisters from Seattle. You have to give a lot of credit to their father a career army man who invoked his girls to regular sing a longs. Hard to believe Ann stuttered as a child. Both of these women are incredibly talented as you can plainly see and hear.
Nancy is a classical trained guitar player... Besides singing similar to Ann and harmonizes perfectly with Ann. Must be genetics.... They are Really Amazing!
@@sourisvoleur4854 I'm thinking that they did grow up with a best friend who helped them wrote their earlier songs and treated her like a third sister.
Nancy Wilson with the wind in her hair and her acoustic guitar virtuosity stole my heart in 1980, and hasn't given it back yet. (And she does vocals -- backing vocals on most tracks, lead on some, she's a very good singer compared to anyone except Ann...)
Ann and Nancy are both phenomenally talented. When you said, "I want to listen to live performances" before this one, I can't imagine anyone was worried. Ann just beat cancer and hopes to be back to performing soon. The inducting Led Zeppelin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame performance was brilliant. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant cried it was so beautiful.
Creating legendary riffs and never making it to the 'best guitarist' lists in her time, while people nowadays vote someone who just plays rhythm and gets into the top guitarist lists of the last two decades. What's wrong with people in this generation? 😂
Nothing is wrong with people. You are giving Wilson too much credit for Heart's riff work. Roger Fisher and Howard Leese were the primary lead guitarists on Heart's heavier riff laden early work. Wilson gets credit for Crazy on You, though.
Malcom Young of AC/DC also created some of the most iconic riffs of all time. Rhythm guitarists never get included on lists. Which is fine because lists are for morons.
@@lutherandross3165 @Fonpol68 @claimguy , What I mean is, someone like Nancy back then didn’t even deserve to make the list in her era. What I’m questioning is how a rhythm guitarist (like Taylor Swift) can be considered among the best guitarists over the past two decades today. I’m questioning the standards people have in this era.
This was Heart's best song to perform live, throughout their career, it's just lots of energy. This performance is early, and with Nancy just rocking out on the acoustic guitar it makes the performance. It's not easy to play acoustic guitar that aggressively for several minutes, it takes a lot of strength and skill. Live performances are the best, especially at my age where I've been listening to these songs since high school, seeing a live performance gives you something different from what's been played on the radio a million times.
Nancy is also a phenomenal singer. Check out “These Dreams” to hear her. Unfortunately, the studio version is unique because she had a cold when it was recorded giving her rendition a sultry edge to it.
"I'm sensing a ballad ..." just give it a moment, dear lady :) First impressions can deceive sometimes :D Aah, Nancy - one of the greatest rhythm players we have seen in many a long decade.
You mentioned old school raw talent versus modern commercialized fireworks, glitz, glamour, and autotuned voices. I'm with you. Modern commercialized work is like eating plastic tasting processed cheese - Synthetic taste with no depth. Ann is one of Rock's finest vocalists. She has so much power, nuance, sustainability, and control in her singing voice. Nancy is also incredible .. and she can sing too. In fact, Nancy sings lead vocal on about 18 Heart songs.
I saw Heart during their "Bébé le Strange" tour (1980). It was their first album after Roger Fisher left the band. The show was really good, and the sound was fantastic. Their sound crew did an awesome job. It was virtually free of distortion. Joe Perry (from Aerosmith) was supposed to be the opening act, but he was a no-show. I think he called in drunk....
Yes I've had the privilege to be a spotlight operator for a Heart show a couple of times in my 35 years as a Union theatrical stage technician local 264 and 285
That was a dual lead guitar solo by lead guitarist Roger Fisher (on the right, by Nancy) and Howard Leese (on the far left). Howard Leese (keyboards, guitar) didn't get enough praise for what he did for the band. After Roger Fisher left, Leese took over the lead guitar position. He was very talented.
There are 3 elements that make a song "pure Heart sound". 1) Amazing vocals from Ann in general. 2) Stunning harmonies with Nancy/Ann that are breathtaking when isolated. 3) "Music drops" during a song that come out of nowhere and completely change not just the "vibe" of a song, but the energy of both the performers AND listeners at the same time. And "Crazy On You" and "Magic Man" are prime examples of these elements taking what would be a "decent/average song" to a completely different level of perfection.
Biss, your next Heart assignment is "Magic Man" - their best song ever, in my opinion! The song is 5 minutes, 30 seconds long, but many videos cut the song in half. I hope you can find the full version of the song. "Crazy On You", "Magic Man" and "Barracuda" are Heart's best works, IMO. I have never grown tired of them after all these years.
I know this band thanks to your precise description, I noticed that the volume of the singer's microphone was low, the sound of the instruments stood out much more.🌺
I went to, and saw Heart at, Cal Jam 2 (Mar. 1978). I was just 15yrs9mos and it was my first concert. Got dropped off the night before (about 9 or 10pm)...my older brother got lost getting us drinks before Santana (fourth in the lineup) performed...and then hitchhiked home to San Berdoo after Aerosmith was done (about 12 to 1am = approx. 27 hours later). Luckily someone responded to my "shout" at the tunnel exiting under the track; "anyone going to San Berdoo?" They ended up living just a few blocks from me and got me home. My brother ended up being sent to a hospital for his asthma.
But the 70s and 80s wouldn't have had all that great music if it weren't for the revolutionary changes in music that went on in the 60s. So for me, I have to add the 60s too.

Nancy may be guitar, but she can sing! Don't think she can't sing. I have heard her live at a Heart concert. I've seen them live more times than I could count.
A power ballad? I disagree. It's too up-tempo. Power ballads are slower-tempo, romantic rock songs to which people often "slow dance". "These Dreams" is definitely a power ballad.
Hello my favorite biscuit you're beautiful as always when this song came out I've actually been into Heart since they're very first album had a mad crush on Ann and Nancy Wilson also they have a lot of great songs
I love the harmony guitar solos, there are a lot of this in the 70s many bands had multiple guitars drums bass sometimes two keyboardists created lots of layering in the music great fills. Sadly missing in more recent stuff. Always enjoy your reactions Biss

This is some earlier music from Heart. Magic Man, Barracuda, etc are from around the same time. One earlier song that I always loved was "Dog and the Butterfly." It's a softer song. I was fortunate to see Ann & the band in concert once minus Nancy due to her pregnancy & it was still an awesome show. That was around 1990, I think. Always loved them.
This band will always be amazing! Ann is one of only three female singers that can give me goosebumps when she belts out those high notes. The other two are Skin (Skunk Anansie) and Floor Jansen (Nightwish)
Heart is a exciting band with fantastic energy and talent. Vocals and guitar in their music is outstanding. Big fan of their music. Ms. Bisscute reacting to a song from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even some of the 80's live as your first reaction would be a second reaction to those who grew up in these decades. Our first reaction to a song during those decades would come from the radio or a friend who had an album, 8 -track or cassette and introduced us to the song the first time. "Live" would be our second reaction to a song, band or soloist. If your interested in reacting to a song released by record labels to radio and stores as the same first reaction experience we had during these times then live would be a second listen. Concert tours with multiple venues and large audiences came after a song, band or soloist became popular. ✌️
I had never heard of Heart when I first saw them in concert in the summer of 1976, opening for Bachman Turner Overdrive at the Indiana State Fair. Other than Bruce Springsteen, I can't remember another live performance making such a strong and lasting impression. Keep up the great work, Biss!
For me, here is why I think that in almost all cases (there are a few exceptions) that RUclips reactors should react to the Studio versions first. The studio version is the version of the song that THE ARTIST believes is the best version. For some bands, Boston is an example, they simply cannot recreate the studio version live. Comfortably Numb is another. I admit I do love the Pulse concert version, even that for me cannot compare to the studio version which is the true version if Comfortably Numb. Studio versions of songs are, clearer, cleaner and more of the songs true heart and soul than a live version. I believe that YiuTube reactors, since they are listening to a song for the first time should always listen to the songs truest version which is the studio version and then listen to the live version. The ONLY reactor I have seen do this is StaceyRPG who first listened to the studio version of The Great Gig in the Sky and then in the same reaction watched and listened to the Pulse Concert live version. I think in the future yiu should do something like this Biss. Hearts live version of Crazy on you is a great live version but I still prefer the studio better.
You really need to watch Nancy sing a lead. She is amazing too. "These Dreams" - live in Seattle- they are a bit older doing an acoustic concert and this song is one that Nancy is the lead singer and Anne backs her up.
Since you really like Rocker Girls, I'm going to suggest reacting to Garbage. It's a 90's Alternative Rock Band, that is fronted by the awesome Shirley Manson. They have a lot of Great Songs: 1. Only Happy When it Rains 2. Stupid Girl 3. Push It 4. I Think I'm Paranoid 5. The Trick Is to Keep Breathing 6. The World Is Not Enough
Bisscute, yes, that was a "belt"... second, there are a few songs that Nancy is front vocals on... I think "These Dreams" is one, and there are at least a couple others.... if you dig around you will find them.
Anna and Nancy are both very extremely talented ladies. There’s no doubt about that. There’s one thing I do like very much about you young lady… You don’t come right out and say it all the time but you appreciate real talent and not somebody who just sounds good in the studio. You want to hear them sing live? Me too!!!!L. I want to hear you live and I want to hear you naturally. I will than decide what I feel about your music
Biss the acoustic intros longer on this version I'm glad you chose this live version never herd it, it sound like the original studio version she has an amazing voice great choice biss I really enjoyed it oh ya I'm crazy about you, have a good one❤😊
Your welcome biss hearts music will stand the test of time because they have great creative musisons two more nice ballads by heart are "dreamboat anne" & "dog and butter fly" there not very long but there buitiful songs you got to hear them someday they'll make your day happier thy do for me❤😊
I have a Heart greatest hits album and that acoustic lead in Nancy does at the beginning is on the CD as a separate track called Silver Wheels. It is meant to be a lead in to Crazy on You but it does have its own name.
Yes! Some more Heart! Another good one. Nancy actually does sometimes sing more, and there are some songs where she takes more of the lead, but maybe not in this era. It might be more in their 80s stuff, which was probably more poppie, but I love their 70s era stuff that I think is more rockin'. Another two of their great songs from that era that you should check out are "Magic Man" ruclips.net/video/Ps7tVvQHLyo/видео.htmlsi=-Gpu7epXekI3KvMz, and "Straight On" ruclips.net/video/BE2-gpM2tNc/видео.htmlsi=m9hZlmBINEX0QYRO
Actually in the 70s and 80s, the lead guitarist got the most attention in the band typically though in some cases yes the vocalist. Not like now though where everyone seems to focus on the vocalist

With most bands I prefer the studio version but heart is the exception. They all indeed went crazy on this one.
Thank you
Your welcome biss hearts music will stand the test of time because they have great creative musisons two more nice ballads by heart are "dreamboat anne" & "dog and butter fly" there not very long but there buitiful songs you got to hear them someday they'll make your day happier thy do for me❤😊
I have a Heart greatest hits album and that acoustic lead in Nancy does at the beginning is on the CD as a separate track called Silver Wheels. It is meant to be a lead in to Crazy on You but it does have its own name.
They are great in concert!
You're so funny in the end, Bisscuite. I love your videos. Congrats! 😄
Heart is one of my all time FAVORITE bands ... I'm glad I was in my 20's when Heart was playing in the States !!
Thanks - Dave Strong
I loved the reaction as always Biss! This band has this good vibe in concert and in that year or in that time they used to do good music! Very energetic! One of my favourite bands, very talented!
