I only truly fear Yoshi in this genre. The vengeance due to that green squeeker for being dropped in pits, intentionally slammed into spikes, forced to constantly eat despite his well known acid reflux condition, etc... Yoshi would be horror unleashed. And the cute little squeaks he make are funny.

It is reported that they have somehow become possessed and evil, leaving a trail of bloodshed everywhere they turn. In a saddened fear, everyone seeks out the only being that could possibly stop Mario. With the princess missing, and her kingdom facing ruin, they turn to Bowser for refuge from this murderous Mario and his brother. Bowser, in his surprise, accepts any and all walks of life in every one of his many strongholds. Mario however, cannot be stopped. He enters the first fortress with ease, murdering all of its inhabitants, only to find that the mighty Bowser has fled. Mario, in his rage, violently kills his brother Luigi. In his shock, he turns back around and looks up towards Bowser, who is now standing before him. Mario notices in Bowser's hand the object he's carrying. Bowser grins and releases it. Mario's eyes follow the device as it falls and he watches as it bounces around on the ground, almost in slow motion, all the while it making echoing clacking sounds against the big open chamber walls. CLACK, CLAck, Clack, clack, clack fills the room. It finally stops bouncing around and Mario makes out the words "Mind Control Device" stamped on the front of it. Mario's hand reaches up and around and he touches the back of his neck where it connects to the base of his head. He feels something small and hard protruding out, like a small antenna or receiver. He sheds a tear, and as his confusion clears he softly says "Oh-a no! What-a have I a-done-a?!" At this moment, Bowser lays his massive hands on Mario's shoulders and says in his deep and grumbling voice, "All that I could not, my dearest Mario..." And with all of his strength rips Mario in half, taking his last and final life. Bowser roars in victory. Finally, after all these years, Mario has been defeated.. Constructive criticism--I hope! :) I like the gumption and the balls. For sure. You all went out and made a thing, and made it with moxy. The production quality was on point, the acting was good, and the Mario elements were all there to put me into the world. Well done! What I didn't like was the approach. This wasn't actually "Mario but Rated M." This was, "Mario with additional things that are rated M and which don't have anything to do with Mario." I was with it for the first two minutes. I loved the goombas and spiky blocks and bricks and environmental details; I loved Luigi hanging out with Peach and Mario getting jealous; I loved the blood, as though the reality of actually stomping a goomba to death would have a significant impact on Mario's senses. All good. But you lost me once you transitioned to the basement torture scene, and all else afterward. Then, it became just a dark thriller with Mario trappings. Keep going! You will nail this eventually. Peace, Bros. and Peach!

I think the idea of some absolute psychopath having ‘lives’ like Mario has is a genuinely terrifying concept for a movie. Even if their victims manage to kill their kidnapper, it doesn’t matter, he just lost a life, and he’ll be right back for yours.
This feels like one of those movies where a kid-friendly character gets released to the public domain and people try to make a horror movie with it
