@oldcowbb nah, i feel like you need a certain level of like, acknowledge of the insanity of the premise. like, it would definitely need to be made with sincerity and emphasizing the gritty aspect would make it much better, but the premise is so ridiculous that i feel like the show would also need to lean into the humor some too (as well as plenty of ways to reference the game and interpret it into the dystopian landscape, like how Mario ate the red mushrooms to ‘feel big’)

The whole episode was quite hilarious. Good sketches combined with Pedro Pascal’s laid back, cool and humorous talent. But yes, this “Mario” trailer production was exceptionally good (and too funny too).
The part with Toad resigning himself to his fate after seeing it's a red shell coming for him is 1,000% accurate.

A bad movie or show with "lots of lbgqa" representation gets a high score and if the public doesn't like them, then they're called biggots etc. A good movie that doesn't have the same representation gets a much lower score and is accused of "pandering to the bigots" .. you either make your movie into rupaul or you're a biggot.

@REE-ANIM yes because we both know they aren’t earning what they’re worth.
Working conditions in the VFX industry are harsh as studios are working to prevent that part to organise. That's part of the reason why they can afford to make an amazing piece like this for SNL.
Also, this is of course orders of magnitude cheaper than the "real" VFX that goes into cinematic projects, because the subtle honing of fine details is what makes it real hard, and stuff like this is always a bit rough on the edges.
@REE-ANIM are the artists determining what they deserve in this scenario or the bosses? Either way, the answer is yes I want them to get a raise. Gotta support the arts.

Funny enough, that mushroom is based on an actual mushroom, the fly agaric. And while eating said mushroom will make you violently ill out of both ends, it also messes with your perception- when you look down, the ground will look further away, almost as if you've grown. You're not actually taller, but you will feel like you are. So the joke works two ways!

I think that's kind of the joke. It's basically making fun of Neil Druckman and saying calling him a master storyteller is akin to calling the Mario Kart "writers" master storytellers.
