I've never seen a video that tells us how good the voice system is. I use the system in my vehicle for many things and wonder why I always see Tesla videos showing people constantly using the touch screen while driving. Can you use voice control for many of the features?
Yes. Most features cab be activated by voice, including navigation, HVAC, music, navigation, etc. Also, the commands aren’t rigid. For example, you can say “ lower temperature to 70 degrees”, but if you instead say “I am hot”, the car will lower the temperature as well (in 3 degree increments).
It's cool. But the problem is most people don't like to speak out and instead like to press buttons. And like the other guy said, the commands are very easy too
Dude, incredible review. I especially loved your bit about the negative outlook on the yoke. Super frustrating to see that constantly be a focus and click bait target. I’m getting my Long Range Model S this week and can’t wait, enjoy the car!
I'm still iffy on the idea of the yoke, especially since I live in a city. But, I think it's unfair for me to pass judgement unless I've driven one for an extended period of time. What are your thoughts if the yoke's capacitive buttons were replaced with physical buttons?
@RCFishy I agree. When it comes to driving, the shape of physical buttons makes it easy to locate them through the sense of feel from fingertips alone. And that's important to keep driver attention on the road
@@keksi6844 like I said, if you haven’t tried it, I don’t care about your opinion. Ryan said it just takes a few days to get used to. It’s just because we all have muscle memory for the round wheels. It is very easy to learn a new shape of wheel
Thank you for talking about the quality issues you have experienced. Kind of crazy to see these things on any car, regardless of the price. Also, thanks for talking about active noise cancelation. I was afraid it became vaporware. I am looking forward to reviews of this feature when it arrives. Perhaps worth a video review?
Another advantage you can see on the "Tesla Plaid Channel" that the 19-inch wheels are lighter and faster in drag times. Thanks for one of the best if not the best RUclips Tesla channels.
After driving my Plaid for nearly a year, yoke needs improvements, 1) turn signals n emergency lights should relocate to both thumb tips or index tips at back of handle ber, double press for blinks. 2) horn button should go back to traditional center 3) steering yoke could shrink size by 2 inches, lower right corner blocks lower left screen a bit 4) eliminate lower horizontal bar cuz they do noting
Ryan, I didn't realize that the 19" wheels were wheel covers. Thanks for that info. What do the wheels look like underneath them? On the 2018 Model 3, I preferred the look of the wheels to the look of the wheel covers, despite giving up a few miles of highway range.
Does the new Model S have different regenerate braking settings? I test drove model 3 and Model 3 and did not like the automatic regenerate braking, even in lowest level.
Seems from this video your only complaints are the horn placement and build quality issues, did they fix the sticky stuff and mirrors? Those seem like pretty important things to fix.

Tesla should have you on payroll ! Your review is impressive and important to anyone seriously considering purchasing the Model S PLAID . Thanks Ryan enjoy watching your videos .
Definitely the best tesla overview i have ever watched and ive watched at least a hundred. My model y has a similar issue with the R mirror. After reversing the mirror does not go back perfectly to the original position, so probably once a week i have to manually readjust the mirror.
Is the center of your yoke defective as well? It looks like it has a weird line. Don’t know if it comes like that or if it’s the video. Awesome car though
I may have missed it but one small deal breaker for me is the seat belt adjustment. My wife cannot adjust the passenger side of my MS. The 3, Y and X all have this. Do you have it? Another thing is....as much as I would love to buy another Tesla, My 2019 MS performance continues to use less than 250 wh/mile...which is a range of over 400 miles. So much better than the first Tesla I had. Is this a fluke? I don't know, but I don't want to give this car up. Thx for the great video and explaining the yoke.
I would like to see an analysis of traveling to National Parks and dealing with the charging systems available for the Model Y. If your back country camping for a week or 2 and park the Y in the sun or in the cold how long can it sit there and still be able to make it to a charger without being stranded.
It's ridiculous, the rivian r1t already has less quality issues than this. Instead of coming out with new models each year they should fix take some time fixing this kinda of stuff.
Ryan I just picked up my Plaid yesterday. I'm coming from a MYP. Do you know if the MS has the left scroll wheel functionality update? I was able to assign a function to it, like temperature control by a long hold of the left wheel. Thanks man
Another great review❗️Can you open the glove box with the left button? Are all updates across all Teslas or are they model specific? Happy for you and your new Plaid😁
Well done Mr. Shaw! It is with great honor and respect that I hereby declare you President of The Official Plaid Club! Of course The Official Plaid Club hasn't been formed yet, but I tell ya, if it ever happens you're definitely the president.
So far 4 days in the yoke is not giving me too much trouble. My issues are like yours, the horn placement. I do not understand why it is not in the traditional position or a button on the centre of the yoke. But I also have issue with the capacity signal buttons. When entering and exiting a double lane traffic circle. I had to take my eyes off the road to look down to disengage the turn signal and try and engage the alternative signal direction, when the yoke is more than a 90 degree rotation. In a traffic circle taking eyes off the road is a really bad thing to do. If it was me I would like the turn signal stock back or some paddles on the back of the steering wheel. Alternatively it would be good if the direction changing was physical buttons or had some sort of tactile shape allowing me to feel the difference between the two buttons, without looking at them.
at first I thought the yoke was very silly, because I like resting my hand at the top or bottom of the wheel... but on the yoke I can still rest my hand on the bottom, and it having no top arc bit like a wheel does, it doesn't block the screen that I assume shows the speedometer & the like. I've come around on the yoke. I still think it's a problem that the horn is just a tiny little button on the right side. In an emergency I'm gonna instinctively smack the middle of the thing, not carefully & precisely navigate my thumb to a thumb-sized, capacitive button.
I heard that if you look straight on, the wideness of the yoke interferes with the bottom left side of the screen. Would you say this interference/blockage due to the size of the yoke affects you or even annoys you?
It really annoying when you have to do a three point turn and you have to swipe to go from reverse to drive to reverse to drive. I feel like I'm rocking back and forth while having to deal with one handing the yolk.
Are you aware that the P Zero tires are summer only? They aren’t supposed to be used under 45 degrees F. For all of us that live in 4 season climates, this means buying another set of tires and probably rims. I called Tesla to ask for the P Zeros to be switched to all season performance tires, but they said I would have to purchase those myself.
In Canada they delivered with A\S tires and in Canada East we need to have a winter tires during winter (A/S) tires are not allowed. I would much more prefer to have P Zero instead of the Continental A\S tires :(
Glad to watch a review that is based on longer term first hand use and not just repetition of conclusions made by others who only use a car a few hours. I learned to drive a van with hand controls and one hand on the wheel with a spinner knob and have been doing so accident free for twenty years. Models S LR is my spouse's first Tesla and the yoke has not been an issue. Let's give the humans some credit and remember we can adapt, overcome and learn new things. Bravo Ryan!
Amazing, you just ordered the Plaid and already have it, I ordered the MS LR on April 4 and ED is mid to late November... One thing that I noticed that you didn't mention was the shaking of the driver's door window when you close it, that's really not good.
Ryan, I own a model Y and I'd like to know if you can raise the model S suspension height to have the seat height the same from the ground as the model Y for easier entrance and exiting the car. If so can you set the software to automatically do this when parking the car?
Great review. Please stay on top of those fit and finish issues. My goal is to get a Model Y LR but no matter which Tesla one buys they need to make sure Tesla is aware of those issues and fixes them. I find it absurd that these cars are still rolling off the assembly line with easy fixable issues. In the mean while the Chinese version of the Model 3 with LFP battery gets high praise for its fit and finish. Somehow paying Americans more to produce substandard results is becoming far too common and that has to change, especially when the consumer is spending this type of money.

Ryan, I know that the model 3 and Y didn't have model badging on the rear of the vehicles like the S and X have had. But looking at your video I only saw the PLAID badge on the back. Has Tesla discontinued the model S and X badges with the new refresh?
how would you compare the one pedal driving from this to a model y/3? i driven an S 17 model with one pedal and it really was horrible is it the same ? or exactly if not better than y?

And like the other guy said, the commands are very easy too
@@louisrodriques9323 I'm glad to hear that. Thank you.
Do you still have the 3 and the Y? I'd think that if I had a new S I wouldn't ever drive the other two.
I do not want a yoke.period
@RCFishy I agree. When it comes to driving, the shape of physical buttons makes it easy to locate them through the sense of feel from fingertips alone. And that's important to keep driver attention on the road
@@PS-zw4yc well as he said, I don’t care about your opinion since you have never used one
@@couchpotatoes5158 Well you also dont care about opinion who tested car and gave it thumbs down just like Ryan.
Yoke is ACCIDENT waiting to happen.
Hey Ryan. I like to hear more about selling your model Y and your decision to buy the Model S Plaid 👍👍👍. Like cost breakdown from the model Y and S.
Ryan, I didn't realize that the 19" wheels were wheel covers. Thanks for that info. What do the wheels look like underneath them? On the 2018 Model 3, I preferred the look of the wheels to the look of the wheel covers, despite giving up a few miles of highway range.
Check out Tesla plaid racing channel. He has the 19s with the covers off. They actually look better than the 21 arachnids.
Thanks for staying on them about quality. We ordered a model Y and are expecting a late Jan delivery.
First of all, congratulations on getting your PLAID Model S! Also, thank you for the highly informative and frank review of this remarkable car. Finally, what would you say is better financing or leasing the purchase? BTW, I second your review of the Yoke as "Genius and Hilarious." Keep up the great work!!
I with your choice of smaller rims which equals more tire to cushion the ride of any car. Those Rim-Busting 20 inchers Never made any since for all the wasted extra money. Bravo on making a very practical and functional choice and a top-notch review as always.
@@AudiTTQuattro2003 That's true, but I personally don't do little or no high-speed sharp turns at this point. So I'm shooting for comfort over sports. Great point though! Thanx!
Yes! Ryan I totally agree with the ride quality issues. I want to get these model Y performance for the power in the Colorado mountains but they “upgraded” the wheels and tires plus dropped the suspension….cant even go over speed bumps! Really need an off-road package!
Ryan, nice thorough video. Quick question, did you take a pre-inspection checklist for the day you went to pick it up that you can share. Thx
Even with a less expensive car I’d be so mad with so many defects on a brand new car. Tesla needs to do better!
@@AudiTTQuattro2003 These problems are due to ramping up. That's why it's always best to wait a year or two (or buy before ramp up). Imagine profit Tesla will make once they don't have these quality issues anymore...
Ryan should report them to Tesla, as it sounds like he doesn't want to be without his Model S
Concur...received my MS end of Sept 21, ordered Nov 20, also noticed a lot of defects and missing items upon delivery. Numerous paint issues such as: non-matching touch-ups paint on door hinge bracket, dirt under paint in several places, bumper had chipped paints, hood scratched, all 4 door hinge mount frame paint scratched; uneven weather seals in left B-pillar and length too short in all 4 window opening; chipped brake light corner lens (left/right); missing floor mats and trunk floor cover and upper shelve; delivered with water spots everywhere; unable to remove water spots on glass roof. Tesla delivery process is flawed. Purchase acceptance and downpayment must be made in order to open the car thus prevents you to test drive and inspect the car fully prior to making a long-term commitment. Made a service appointment hoping Tesla resolves above issues. Will follow-up with progress.
@@101niketown I thought there was a 7 day money back gaurantee? Or is this available only in some States?
At least they are all cosmetic, but still it takes away from the joy of when you buy something new
Exactly! One could cut them some slack as a fledgling startup in the early days of manufacturing the Model S in 2012. But 9 years later, and building essentially the same vehicle, and they STILL CANNOT GET IT RIGHT!! Truly unforgivable.
@@Nicholas.T The same vehicle? Um I guess the same door handle. There was a reason they closed the Model S line for months whilst they completely retooled the lines. When they launch the new Model Y with the new 4680 cell and two single casts for the chassis it will also be "just another Model Y" on the outside but I am sure there will be the first year of teething as any new model with any new car.
Amusing you think the Plaid is just another Model S like the one in 2012. Perhaps you should compare some of the specs.
Phillip.
Thanks for this great video. Great timing, delivery of my MS Long Range Refresh is tomorrow !
This is, by far, the best Tesla review I’ve seen to date. Thank you!
did you/are going to sell your model 3 now?
How would you compare the suspension of this to your model y? Is the ride quality comfortable?
If you preordered with FSD can you opt out and do the monthly subscription before taking delivery?
Congratulations on the plaid 🍾
Great & informative review Ryan. Thank you....I am looking forward to getting one down under next year.
GREAT VIDEO RYAN!!!!!! Btw. What were you listening to on your trip?
Thank you for this video. Are the sound systems the same for both Tesla’s ?? Model S and Model S Plaid ???
How do the rear seats hear the audio for the video? Is there a Bluetooth option?
All opinions subject to more information. The definition of credibility Well done sir.
Late to the party but on my third Tesla now, nothing will ever be the same as taking delivery of my 2017 Model S but the 2022 Model S is absolutely awesome. They truly made an incredible machine meaningfully better.
Bravo Ryan. Your hard work has paid off.
Thanks for providing a truly objective review. I just got the yoke installed on my Model 3 (yes, a model 3) and it has added immensely to my driving experience.
one thing worth noting that i haven’t seen a single review mention is that screen shifting isn’t 100% the only option. you can tap both scroll wheels and shift with the middle console if you want
Any idea why my Plaid music player always on the screen? And no direct trunk/frunk release on park??
You always talk about how the fsd package isn’t worth it and then you got the 3 without it. Did you get the subscription on this car because with beta coming out, it’s now justified? Please talk about the fsd package value in your next video, hopefully with other beta button info. Great channel 👍
He doesn't think it's worth it, he is subbing to make videos about it when the beta is released.
Tesla should have you on payroll ! Your review is impressive and important to anyone seriously considering purchasing the Model S PLAID . Thanks Ryan enjoy watching your videos .
Does the automatic shifing only work if you have FSD? Or does it work with basic auto pilot? Thanks!
Ryan, congrats! I can not hide just how JEALOUS l am!
Great video! 👍 Congratulations on the purchase of the most Awesome car! 😎
Great review! I own a Plaid myself and can say with certainty that Ryan knows whereof he speaks!
I would like to see an analysis of traveling to National Parks and dealing with the charging systems available for the Model Y. If your back country camping for a week or 2 and park the Y in the sun or in the cold how long can it sit there and still be able to make it to a charger without being stranded.
Do Sentry mode and Dashcam footage rewrite each other or are they one continuous video?
I love your honesty about the yoke. 9:56
Yoke explanation is perfect. Most people complaining about it, just like anything in general, simply lack the experience
Does the yoke allow you to control a power slide/drift through a corner?
I was really hoping those build quality issues would’ve been resolved by now… 😔
It's ridiculous, the rivian r1t already has less quality issues than this. Instead of coming out with new models each year they should fix take some time fixing this kinda of stuff.
Mine has 0 quality issues.
@@KslersRT You have a new Plaid, or are you talking about your 3/Y ?
@@Nicholas.T i have a new plaid. The wife has a new model 3
What tint coverage did you get? and did you get the back window tinted as one piece?
Ryan I just picked up my Plaid yesterday. I'm coming from a MYP. Do you know if the MS has the left scroll wheel functionality update? I was able to assign a function to it, like temperature control by a long hold of the left wheel. Thanks man
Congrats! Sweet ride bro, Enjoy!
I totally agree with you. Also, Ryan would be a great Tesla marketer, but I think Elon is ultimately his own marketing machine.
When are you going to have an update on the cyber truck and when do you think would be the best time to buy?
Have you been able to use the auto park on your plaid? I haven’t had any luck getting mine to work on my plaid?
How are the headlights?
at first I thought the yoke was very silly, because I like resting my hand at the top or bottom of the wheel... but on the yoke I can still rest my hand on the bottom, and it having no top arc bit like a wheel does, it doesn't block the screen that I assume shows the speedometer & the like. I've come around on the yoke.
I still think it's a problem that the horn is just a tiny little button on the right side. In an emergency I'm gonna instinctively smack the middle of the thing, not carefully & precisely navigate my thumb to a thumb-sized, capacitive button.
Imagine trying to whip the wheel around in an emergency hand over hand.
Bravo Ryan!
I wonder if you can fit a ‘spinner’ to the Model S & X yoke steering wheels for tight manoeuvres? That might just help.
Very much appreciate the detailed analysis. Your points about the yoke are very useful.
So happy for you getting Plaid. I just picked up my M3P about couple weeks ago still sitting in garage waiting for tesla to fix my defects.
Nicely done Ryan. Thanks
Somehow paying Americans more to produce substandard results is becoming far too common and that has to change, especially when the consumer is spending this type of money.
my husband LOVES TESLAS & ordered the S dual motor fsd while his tri motor fsd cyber truck gets here & we have lots of solar & backup battery system to charge them both.. he is all into TSLA.
Ryan, I know that the model 3 and Y didn't have model badging on the rear of the vehicles like the S and X have had. But looking at your video I only saw the PLAID badge on the back. Has Tesla discontinued the model S and X badges with the new refresh?
how would you compare the one pedal driving from this to a model y/3?
i driven an S 17 model with one pedal and it really was horrible
is it the same ? or exactly if not better than y?
Congrats Ryan!!!
I have a new S, and you are absolutely right on!
I pushed the button 2 days ago and have no score option on my app. How do I update the app to get this ability?
Is there anything new on the model Y like can you make a new update one on the car
Totally agree on the 19 inch wheels..I ordered my Plaid with 19 inches and with black interior 👌
I'm expecting delivery of my Model 3 in November. Really can't wait. But on the other hand all these build quality issues everyone talks about kinda make me nervous.
Wow! I was shocked by your list of trim problems. I had no trim issues with previous Teslas. I did have a couple of failures - a door presentation failure and a window regulator, but both were repaired under warranty.
That was a very good review, very thorough, very detailed! Nice work!
Hey buddy, does your drum set fit?? 🥁 🥁
So tempted to rent your plaid on Turo for our USA Roadtrip.
Currently im driving the Y Performance from Giga Berlin.
Is it really soo much quicker? :D
Hey Ryan are you getting the FSD beta 10.1 request? It's will be cool if you get into the program
Congrats on the Model S Plaid! I have a 2017 Model X (red with white interior, 6 seater), love it above every other car I have had, and really looking forward to the Model X refresh. Will you get one, or at least review that as well? 🤩
