Been waiting for a Plaid update! Yeah that driver's door gap is way beyond acceptable. We took delivery of our Plaid at about the same time as you and fortunately we lucked out with build quality with a minor exception of the rear hatch gap on one side was a little off, but apparently within Tesla spec. Tesla would not adjust it.
I'm surprised Tesla has not addressed the inner tire wear issue with all the negative RUclips press and it being a legitimate safety issue. There is a simple solution of adjustable control arms, but this leaves a risk of warranty issues down the road since Tesla is not kind to any modifications. We decided to buy the winter tire package for $2750 that comes with the 19" wheels and PZero winter tires. Figure these tires will last a few seasons and extend the 21" Michelin tire life. But we live in a colder climate where snow is in the forecast.
The white interior definitely gives the Plaid a much more luxurious feel and would choose it for sure.
Overall, the Plaid is incredible, IMO.
Love this comment. Thanks for watching and glad you’re enjoying your plaid! I love the wide tires and I love the look but might consider something different in the future. I figured I’d be spending the money one way or another buying this car.
Haven’t scheduled yet with Tesla for my panel gaps to be looked at but curious if they will deem it as “within spec”
Tesla wouldn't adjust the gap on the rear hatch in your case because if they did, they'd cause several other gap issues. If you just got a 2024, most or all of them seem to be out of square on the rear quarter panels but about 1/4" longer cross from upper left to lower right vs upper right to lower left.
Install rear camber arm links to fix inner tire wear. Or use the 19" tires instead of the 21".
Yep the 19’s don’t have that problem. The larger tire creates additional camber on top of the already excessive camber in the suspension.
I have the plaid and I love the yoke ! A lot better than the regular wheel
If you enjoy breaking your wrists in parking garages, sure. The yoke is just for looks, it might as well be a rake in terms of practicality. I drove one extensively. Don't try to convince me otherwise.
I have a Plaid and I threw that ridiculous piece of junk yoke wheel in the garbage the first week!
No one likes the yoke, you are just trying to convince your self its better while its measuribly worse.
yoke blows ! ELON LIED PEOPLE DIED
@@reapzvanreapz9687I think you're angry
Still no leds inside… while any model 3 gets them now. Not buying a S until they put leds inside.
you can't afford it anyways😂 cry about the leds
@@jadenwoolcock3711 I can dude… I am actually waiting. Need to sell one car though. And I go for the Plaid, not the normal. But for this price I want the bloody leds
@@jadenwoolcock3711lol ppl crying about LEDS bruh. Get yourself a keyboard
@@jadenwoolcock3711How would you know what he can or can't afford? You op's accountant or something?
I've had the Model S Plaid. I've been driving since January 2023, and LEDs are superfluous when you have so much more.
Check your Toe not just the Camber
Tends to be toe out and drags the inner side of the tires as you drive
Toe is adjustable from the factory
Camber requires camber arms or shims.
Dépend , u can adjust camber by loosing suspension and arm, adjust camber than tight everything
Camber issues are well known on the S and X. Bigger wheels, with smaller sidewall tires make it even worse.
Awesome review! Holding out for a lightly used 2024, for new seats and front cam. The 19's don't have the camber issue btw, and there are solutions for the 20's.
Found one with 18,000 miles for $55,990. You think it a good deal? Almost 20,000 miles so maybe I need to change tires?
Is it the one in Orlando? lol I’m considering one that’s roughly the same. I think it’s a good deal by a few thousand. If you can get one in the high 40s or right at $50k, I think you could say you got a hell of a deal
I recently purchased the 2025 Tesla S Plaid without any of the issues you've mention. No panel caps. I did replace the yoke with the Tesla steering wheel. Is it me or are you a bit wound tight? BTW, I love the FSD. You do realize the cabin camera can be turned off? Perhaps you should do your research before doing a review.
Do you not know the difference between AutoPilot and FSD?
Did a plane disappear behind you at 18:40
I guess I’m an easy buyer. I don’t have the door misalignment. You’re right that the gap on the right side of the trunk is a little bigger than the left side. I just checked now that you brought it up, but it’s nowhere close to the finger size.
A yoke is not what makes a Plaid when the base S also has a yoke available (as a paid option on both now). Happy that the wheel is now the no-cost option.
Great review 🎉 really looking foreward to upgrade to this in some time.
I think the same about the autopilot.
Quick tip: wear sunglasses. 🕶️ works perfectly 😅
Are you able to retrofit a regular tesla steering wheel on this (with a mechanical horn, not a button)?
Does that 2 week timeout from autopilot still exist?
Yoke Yes!!!! it makes the Model S that much Unique, your description of FSD is correct 100%. For Highway driving on long trips, it's great. I only use on long highway trips. In town/urban driving I don't use it because it's more stressful. That gap on the hatch is same on my 2020 Model s and I agree about the alignment for the flagship should be much better
wrong!!!
What spacers are you using? 15mm?
i strongly dislike the yoke. i drive with one hand and it is just uncomfortable when crusing or making quick manuevers. i have the full wheen in my 2023 MS Plaid and love it.
Would love to meet up with you, I noticed your in Arizona as well. I have a cybertruck and a model x, would love to get your insight on the plaid.
14:36 The Honda S2000 has the same camber. Your car looks really good.
Michelin 4S's are a great tire but by no stretch of the imagination a "racing tire". They wear like iron compared to the Cup 2's which are a track tire and can last 5K miles if you don't step hard on the go pedal.
Hello American friends 😊✌️ The toe and camber of every Model S should be adjusted to prevent internal tire wear. thanks for the interesting video. Best regards from Germany
Can you share the tech you use for videos in the car?
If you make a appointment Tesla will correct those panel gaps
Or they’ll tell you that it’s in-spec which is what happened to me over the last couple of Teslas I’ve owned
They will most likely refuse to
My 2022 X plaid's screen swivels left and right. 19" wheels' tires last about 20k miles
Wow that drivers door gaps on the front of the door look really bad! Almost looks like it was in a accident even though it wasn’t. You should have rejected delivery and waited for another one!
My 2022 has updated steering wheel, taillights, headlights and swivel lcd screen
Did that plane crash in the back round
🗿bruh he was driving by an airport
I thought the same shit!!!!!!😮 looks like it sent straight down!
Self drive or auto pilot ? Which are you referring ? The rep told me self drive is the function that you can look away from the road .
The yoke would make sense if it had steer by wire
I would also check your autopilot version,, also you do live in a larger city so I live more in the suburbs but autopilot will get me from my house to drop my daughter off to school and back with almost no intervention on most days and sometimes I have to intervene just because the car is willing to go slower than I am
Exactly same as mine I love the yoke
Me too!
What percent on is the tint?
I have the same MSP same color but with black interior and opted for the round steering wheel. I personally did not like or want the yoke, to me it's a safety issue and I just didn't want to have to get used to the yoke, MHO. Also, I just had the steering wheel replaced under warranty (only have 3,500 on it) with the new center mechanical horn, they replaced the airbag as well because the new one now has the horn symbol embedded at the bottom, this is required by NHTSA, the horn icon in the upper part of the steering wheel has also been replaced with a video icon. I had it replaced because the left blinker would sporadically stop working 😉😉.
I have the 2024 plaid and I agree. Guys, get the YOLK, it is incredible awesome!! It takes short time to get use to it, I now try to drive my second car, a Jeep Wrangler and it is so difficult. Yolk is awesome!
you can also add the yoke to the long range version which sucks kinda in my opinion
I put 26k miles on my plaid in 7 months is that too much driving?
I use auto pilot on the highway nearly 100% of the time. It’s very practical to me. You just have to pay attention. Driving fatigue is significantly reduced.
White 🤍 color looks very nice 🚗
Do you have any squeaks/rattles inside the car?
Yes, it’s something I’ve thought about scheduling an appt for. You?
I'm impressed you got 10,000 out of your tires. I only got 6,000 on my last ones in the rear. I drive the same, commute daily 100 miles a day occasional pul on the highway or street. I'm thinking about purchasing a set of 19 inch and keeping the 21 inch for Summer only.
I was thinking of getting a Tesla as my next car. A "Plaid". And I'm shocked that quality control that allows these gaps to occur.
Tesla resolved it once I made a service appt, I’m happy with mine.
My cousin works at a body shop that regularly fixes Tesla panel gaps. It's not terribly expensive relative to the price of the car, and helps the resale value a bit as well.
This is all false. Most people aren’t evaluating panel gaps.
@@brich5314 right. Most people don't have eyes that can see gaps in panels.
2500 for tires? did i hear that right?
For all 4
When you get the car in white is easier to spot that gap and it will bothering you over time.
Tesla S are built in US… 🇺🇸 American made… with huge gaps! 💪
In China the controls are much better if you get a Y model. 🤷♂️
8:42 disappearing airplane???
I'm not a Tesla hater. In fact I drove the PLAID myself and my wife was left with a severe migraine like you get after a roller-coaster. LOL ! .... SAVE ON GAS PER YEAR TO PAY $2,500.00 FOR 4 NEW TIRES EVERY 10,000 MILES DRIVEN ! Equivalent to paying for 865 gallons of gas at $2.85 per gallon ! TELL ME HOW THIS MAKES SENSE ? FYI ... Most tires can get 50,000 miles before the need to replace them. In fact, C8 corvette 40 to 50,000 miles driven before replacements of course if you don't do burnouts all day ! And I understand the car has 1020 HP but in the end are you really saving money or actually just paying more money upfront anyway ? With the liberation feeling of freedom not stopping at a gas pump to only have to stop more often to a EV TESLA PUMP instead !? People buy the car for performance not to save gass or save money is fine. However the C8 Corvette for the same price is a better machine for the same or less money and has all around better performance and less depreciation value with most of all better head turning looks ! Just my opinion. Oh did I mention... SOUNDS BETTER TOO !
I ordered the M3P with FSD
Waiting for the updated model
I agree with you. FSD is more work than when I don’t use FSD
If the door is off with a gap then the whole car has gaps ijs
Keep the ride level on medium. Tires will last longer
I did that on mine, but it didn't make a difference. I'm just going to purchase a set of 19 in and use the 21 in for summer only
I have a Model Y. I'm so torn between cybertruck, Model S plaid, model X.
I think I'll just wait.
depends on what you need
That gap is really easy to fix in a body shop
Did any catch that single engine plane falling towards the earth very rapidly at 8:32...then poof...disappeared!
What a guy.... complaining about the door and you could have done something about it. Now you're whining that it doesn't align properly. That alone was enough to make the rest of the video not even worth watching.
pause on 8:49
The horn placement is terrible, and now for a center horn placement on a round steering wheel they want 2K!! Crazy. I think QC is variable. Some people get perfect cars, and others like me got more gaps than Michael Strahan's teeth. It's a great daily driver, and is a better car now with updates than it was when I bought it a year ago, but the panel gaps, wind noise on the right side and misaligned doors are unacceptable for 100K
Thankyou for saying the cost of the tires… that’s not cheap at all. :/
I don’t have too much of a problem with the yoke but I won’t buy the Plaid with the yoke until they add steer by wire. Without it, it makes no sense and I’ve driven a LR and a Plaid with the yoke.
Make the appointments with service sir! Do it now!
i dont need the review to know whats wrong - No steering feel, yoke scks, , brakes are terrible, soo interior, no real turn signals, No HW4 support - should i keep going ? - Elon Lied people Died
First, Elon didn't design a thing on that car. Why you would even think that, no idea.
Second, camber issues are a known problem. It's set to a negative camber on purpose for handling, but it's completely unnecessary for normal driving.
Third, '22 refresh models have upgraded screen, headlights, and taillights.
I don't even own a plaid yet, and I know all of these things.
The only answer is the car requires aftermarket camber plates to get it 100% correct. And that’s not to correct the camber. The inside tires being worn out, like you’re talking about, is bad “toe out.” Camber arms offer the proper adjustability. Elon is not inclined to even think about fixing it. The Model Y is bad as well.
The tires wear because of the air suspension. You can add a camber kit to fix it. But yes it sucks
As a car guy, I would not take delivery with all these gap issues.
There shouldn't be a 3 month learning curve to learning how to use the blinkers. That's just indicative of horrible UI design.
I test drove a Model S and it took me less than 15m to learn how to use them. It was surprisingly easy to adopt to the lack of stalks.
The gaps are killing my ocd😂
me too
@@AustinZaback It couldn't have bothered you that much if it's been 6 months and you still haven't booked a service call to fix it. I would have told them the day I picked it up to address those issues ASAP.
I love the yoke but not spending the $1000 premium
The tire wear is due to camber changes when suspension changes height. Tire pressure is much higher than normal cars to reduce rolling resistance.
So the car is pretty mkay in the end
I don't have a Plaid but a 2017 S with only 30K miles. I hardly use autopilot that much either. In heavy traffic, it helps if fatigued and you need a break. But adaptave CC is very nice because I don't have to deal with adjusting the car's speed.
Just cover the cabin cam with a lil piece of tape, autopilot will work just fine
Really? Thought it yells at you if covered
@@AustinZabackNo actually, my MYLR works just like it used to before the update. But on the other hand I used a small piece of clear tape to blur the camera's view of the driver, so it might only alert if completely blacked out.
I purchased those little black webcam slider covers from Amazon, they self stick and you can slide it to cover\uncover the lens anytime you'd like, they cost about 4 bucks for a pack.
You should have pointed out both doors at time of delivery and asked Tesla to fix it. Don't wait 10000 miles to complain on the internet and assume Tesla won't take care of the issue. You can't just sit back and expect things to be fixed. Be proactive bro. I know it's Tesla's fault but give them a chance to make it right.
I got it serviced amd they fixed all the gaps
@AustinZaback Your video didn't say that. You guys are the ones who make Tesla look bad on the internet. Tesla is not perfect. We all know that. However, telling one side of the story is not a fair evaluation either.
With autopilot, if you cover the internal camera, then it becomes a bit more useable. you just have to keep your hand on the yoke, but your eyes can go anywhere and it doesnt chirp at you.
Where the fuck goes the airplane at 8:41????
no clue!
@@AustinZaback 👍🏼 thx for answering
Buys a 1000 hp 100k car and complains about tires smh
I was just complaining about the tires on my plaid until I read your comment. Makes a lot of sense, I forget just how much power that car has.
Tesla fixed all my issues on my 2023 Tesla model S with the car no problem gaps, any problems my car a couple Tesla service visits is now perfect. So calm down 😂
Auto pilot and FSD are 2 different things. I agree auto pilot is useless. I don't understand why people like it so much. But FSD is a totally different story.
That back seat ergonomic design is horrible. It's so hard to get in and out of it without the door touching any car parked next.
With Black exterior you won’t see all those gaps you complained about!
> falling for the meme car
SSSSSSNAKE 🐍🐍
lol never heard that one before
Your just too picky lol. I like where the steering wheel doesn't block the speedometer. On most cars you don't adjust the steering wheel for comfort but for vision of your speedometer. Every new car I bought has quick wear tires. If you get 30,000 miles you are extremely lucky.
That would bother me for the price of the car.
Don’t get the 21’s guys. The 19’s get better range and don’t wear as fast. Also the panel gap issues are pretty common for a Model S. I think Tesla has to improve their manufacturing processes. Study what Toyota does in that regard and compare it to Tesla. Also my recommendation for seat care is Chemical Guys Leather Care kit.
The 21s look so much better and usually improve performance, Tesla needs to fix/improve the tire wear issue.
Yes I agree, I'm going to purchase a set of 19s and use my 21-in for Summer only.
FYI....friend got one of the first Plaids in the NYC area. Big street racer and made over $250k in the first year on the street! Was smart enough to know that beating the competition on the street by ONLY 1/2 to 1 car length ALMOST ALWAYS got the car he beat to come back and race him again when the competition added 100hp with NOS and still got beat but by a smaller margin! 5 years ago that was a great way for racers to make lots of money! Took a little more than a year for other racers to WISE UP! Can't do that today, but paying for his Plaid PLUS $100K in pocket was awesome! He went so far as to change the funky steering wheel and taking any sign of a PLAID off the car. Actually had the car wrapped a few times in fifferent colors, changing tires and wheels to drag radials (for looks!) and having a FRIEND drive the car to sucker other racers in! He likes the car with flaws in gaps, making it look like a used beater. It was great fun while it lasted and luckily no one got hurt EXCEPT others wallets! I know this has nothing to do with a review, but DAMN, that car was fast!!!😊
Gay
Why have auto pilot, but you can't use it. My Hyundai Sonata drives itself, and I can be on my phone!
Why the fuck would anyone pay 8k for this?
This guys voice, made it 10 seconds….. 😂 good god
Sorry man. What do you want me to do?
Thatth not very nithe
FSD sucks. I quit using it and taped over the camera. I dont need a car nagging at me.
😂
Wrap it.
I thought about it!
You said Tesla model what again? 😂
Mmm Kay?
Ok Mr. Mackey, settle down now, mmmkay?
Cam-ber, not Came-ber
Good to know!
Mike Tyson would be proud 😂😂😂😂
Don’t worry folks, it’s low maintenance but you’ll pay $2k every year for tires!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂
I mean it’s a 0-60 car is 1.9 seconds. Every car that does those speeds need tires every 6-12 months😂 My BMW M3 competition runs through tires. Same with my plaid
Last longer than my nitto drag radials and actually rain drive.
Or you could just pay a couple hundred to have it adjusted.
