That moment when you see 2m views but realise it's the same 25,000 people listening to it 80 times. A true gem to the music world and true to the heart
Spot on. I can’t think of any other live attempt to reproduce what are essentially mostly samples from the record so that the DJ can just focus on scratching. It’s amazing she called this song “dodgy,” when it was better than the record.
Sometimes records end up being over-thought or over-polished or whatever, where the live version gets brought back down to the essence. And, to be fair, when it got recorded they were just coming up with it. This is after playing it many times, where everyone has had time to really feel it out.
NICCEEE!!! I got a promo copy years before it was it could be bought. I'm a beast on music and nonsense never gets a pass. Portishead is legendary to me. Stays in the library. Still gets airplay. Magic...
I've attending hundreds of concerts because I used to work in the music industry, this was by far one of the most intimate and memorable ones I've ever attended!
Incredible how Beth’s voice can change in an instant. Sings the verses almost in an American computer/ robot sound then changes to the sublime for the “ Give me a reason …….” What a performance. Timeless masterpiece.
For some reason I’ve always sort of fancied Beth. The voice helps and she’s so cool. The musicianship on this is outstanding! The guitars , keyboards, string orchestra and the DJ Andy Smith from Bristol on the decks.
Absolutely amazing. I wasn't even born back in 1997, but my mother raised me on Portishead. I love them, I love trip-hop, and I love every new artist that they've influenced with their sound!
Jesus this woman’s voice sounds even better live those lyrics are speaking for me I feel like I’m stalking her and the band there go the hottest riffs I’ve heard in a long time much respect to all the musicians this is a whole experience and I don’t want it to end💯🔥🔥🔥❤️
my god. this is what good music is (in my opinion). it sounds just as good live as it does on the album. so many "famous" singers now-a-days can't touch this.
One of my all-time favourite bands. I remember being blown away by Dummy. Beth Gibbons is just a superb singer and this is her at her sublime best. 10/10
This is a song that elicits passion and desire in way that stills your breath. Portishead captures this in way I have never experienced in any other musical piece.
Still gives me goose bumps. I wish I would have been there but discovered Portishead relatively late. Outstanding live performance and her voice got incredible range.
+Manumanu Montesano yeah portishead is fantastic... this music have this energy that give me this feeling of full satisfaction, i feel like i'm after bomb of plaseure, fully satisfied, so much that its pleasure as the "bomb" it self... i k'now what i'm sayng its very particular and subjective so here is two examples... that moment after a realy good sex, with the person you desire a long time, and finaly happens, or your first snort on cocaine, not the os first of the day, your first contact... annnnnnnd now that i read all this "cheat" i wrote.... what i'm tryng to say, any of the other forms of art can give this emotional impressions in this... deep and for the moment, some times its more objective; when identify with the lyrics, literature have this same capacity, but listening the voice, the timing for sing the lines, the time of not sing, the tone of voice, makes you inpersonate an present individual that share the same ideas that you identify, is not anymore a solid idea that you absorb... its a human identy sharing with you the idea... and the other is the that i say... something like the portuguese word estasiar, maybe dosent have some similar word in englsih, sou can translate the meaning insted the word it self... bust is like some body and mynd sensorial subjective impressioan. so there here is some unuseless uselees information.... i don't fuckning k'now why that hell i wrote this... maybe cause i'm realy fucking high
Been in love with this song and this band since I first heard them in about 1999-2000. I'll be geriatric by the time they do another album (if ever) it's sad, but at least we will always have these gems.
oh boy! this whole concert is absolutely amazing, wish i had been there. The feeling of extreme happiness and pleasure mixed with a somewhat sad/melancolic feeling is so great and addicting.
I first heard these guys about 8 years ago. Instant love. I now own this concert on 220g heavyweight vynil, and it sounds absolutely glorious on HiFi speakers through a dedicated tube amp
Summer, mid-90s a hot day. It was after business hours. I remember walking on the historic medieval cobblestones of The Netherlands' poshest shopping street (Stokstraat Maastricht). Someone in an apartment above the ultra-expensive shops had opened a window and played this song. With the vol. on max. The echo of the song between the restored facades of the houses was breathtaking and mesmerising.
Goosebumps so hard my body hair stuck through all of my clothes, not even talking about the tearfall. Portishead, you are one of a kind. Beth is a goddess.
This is music ! This touches the heart mind and soul I doubt we will witness a set like this again. Masterpiece - doing what music should. Spreading spectacular emotions worldwide ❤️
a moment of grace......................... so great memories of that period, a different atmosphere & stare of mind, more freedom & creativity than today.... plus d'insouciance et de légèreté it's time to move over !!!
I'm so tired of playing Playing with this bow and arrow Gonna give my heart away Leave it to the other girls to play For I've been a temptress too long Just... Give me a reason to love you Give me a reason to be a woman I just wanna be a woman From this time, unchained We're all looking at a different picture Through this new frame of mind A thousand flowers could bloom Move over and give us some room, yeah Give me a reason to love you Give me a reason to be a woman I just want to be a woman So don't you stop being a man Just take a little look From our side when you can Sow a little tenderness No matter if you cry Give me a reason to love you Give me a reason to be a woman I just want to be a woman It's all I wanna be, is all a woman For this is the beginning Of forever and ever It's time to move over It's all I want to be I'm so tired of playing Playing with this bow and arrow Gonna give my heart away Leave it to the other girls to play For I've been a temptress too long Just...
Arguably the best song in the world. There is only one thing cooler than smoking a cigarette and playing this song in a funky cool night club . And that's when the artist is the one doing the smoking.
Today is probably the second time i've ever heard this song (thank you Pandora). It's so beautiful, I love the symphony, this woman's voice is gorgeous
Replying to a 5 year old comment, hope you’re not dead. I disagree with the “very 90’s” comment you made. It could be from any era and even now in 2022 it sounds fucking mint pal. Better than any shite brought out now. Timeless. Beautiful voice, great band and what a tune.
That moment when you see 2m views but realise it's the same 25,000 people listening to it 80 times. A true gem to the music world and true to the heart
Mike Pawlik definitely one of the 25,000
Guiltyyy
To the heart yeah ! Best album ever and best live
@@Henrydingus01123 omg... Me too hahaha for sure
@@SirSebaSeba live at Roseland NYC yes.... Man!!!
How blessed are the people in the audience, this can never be repeated
I Envy them so much!
I was at this concert. It was amazing.
just imagine it, it is 1997 and you randomly go to this concert of this band that just released its second album. and you witness this. it is insane.
i wish i was as blessed. this is hands down one of the best performances i have ever seen. Beth is and always will be one of my biggest crushes.
after all these years, not a lot can compare to this performance. This concert is one of the greatest ever in the history of Music.
This performance is the coolest ever. The lead is soooo sexy!
Well said!
The best live performance ever recorded.
And the fact that this sounds soooo sexy
Spot on. I can’t think of any other live attempt to reproduce what are essentially mostly samples from the record so that the DJ can just focus on scratching. It’s amazing she called this song “dodgy,” when it was better than the record.
In terms of live performances, this is truly monumental.
Right on.
the fact she's singing a vocal spectrum most people can't even think about while smoking a cig is insane to this day
This whole live show is 10 times better than the actual recordings. And their records blow my head off every time.
Sometimes records end up being over-thought or over-polished or whatever, where the live version gets brought back down to the essence. And, to be fair, when it got recorded they were just coming up with it. This is after playing it many times, where everyone has had time to really feel it out.
My uncle is the guy on base, licking up the vibrations, all the oscillations in the harmony, and her melody.
Thx to him from me. ;-)
is he playing baseball?

Easily one of the best live songs ever... And from 4:03 to 4:35 man the crescendo and dj scratch... one of the GREATEST MOMENTS IN MUSIC, GOOSEBUMPS
It's such a shame that this and other songs from Radiohead are underrated. So many have never even heard this song before.
Incredible how Beth’s voice can change in an instant. Sings the verses almost in an American computer/ robot sound then changes to the sublime for the “ Give me a reason …….” What a performance. Timeless masterpiece.

"Sorry that was a bit dodgy" She's so humble. It wasn't dodgy, it was brilliant! Legendary!
The 90s was the best Era of music..I was 18 when I first started listening to Portishead. I'm 45 and still noone can compare
Don't you forget it... 80s and 90s baby 👍
There will never be a more epic drag from a cigarette than that
Still get the goosebumps after 25 years
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: ruclips.net/video/I4IGV5s8E84/видео.html Very well done!
She is the fkin queen. She is.
Top man....viva a música boa wow
Goosebumps hearing that crystalline voice powering through the symphony. Simply electrifying.
This is maybe my favorite female vocal performance of all time. I get literal chills from her voice when I listen to this
A genuine masterpiece. Pure art.

Only Christine McVie from Fleetwood Mac is in her league.

Talking about music and the feel, not the lyrics

Portishead, you are one of a kind.
Beth is a goddess.
Why did she apologise for being dodgy when she executed it to perfection? Class act!
I love how humble she is. Yet your correct it was perfection
Probably a mistake earlier in the show she was referring to.
My dudes... there where no mistakes. She's just a crazy perfectionist workoholic.... wich makes her a great artist!
kunjeeboi I find that so fucking humbling. It’s incredible and so English
Haha, I remember spending numerous hours in my walk-in closet makeshift dark room in my parent's house listening to Portishead. Good times...

This is music !

My first time listening to this. Loved that funky vibes. I’m adding this to my list.
2024 and we still need a reason to love someone, love u portishead
I'm so tired of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long
Just...
Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be a woman
I just wanna be a woman
From this time, unchained
We're all looking at a different picture
Through this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over and give us some room, yeah
Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be a woman
I just want to be a woman
So don't you stop being a man
Just take a little look
From our side when you can
Sow a little tenderness
No matter if you cry
Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be a woman
I just want to be a woman
It's all I wanna be, is all a woman
For this is the beginning
Of forever and ever
It's time to move over
It's all I want to be
I'm so tired of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long
Just...
