Mixing Techniques - Having fun with Transitions

- Over the past year I've done a lot of work with my good friend Steve DeLuca. He has written a lot of really good songs and some of them, like this song, have really cool arrangement ideas.
For this track, called "Did I Die", there is a really neat arrangement to get from the start of the song to the first verse and I decided to add even more to that with some fun mix ideas using room mics and delays. I think it came out really well so I decided to share it with you.
This song hasn't been released yet but when it is I'll post links.

Delay on drums...a good old John Bonham trick. It's what gives those drums on 'When The Levee Breaks' that odd kind of movement.

I have started to following you and watching all the video. Your sound is really neat, clean and punchy. Just curious how many outboard EQs, compressors or other effects processes you have for each of those channel when you doing a summing mix in the board. Thanks for the video! TIA

How are you using the 542's - 2 Buss?
No they are on the main drum bus. You can see it labeled in the video when it goes to the side rack. My 2 bus is a Smart Research C1 into a Neve 8803 EQ.

Love it, Charlie! Sounds great! I love playing with delays on drums. Drums sound awesome (Of course!) Great fill! Bonham-y. I got a little crazy with delay, flanging, panning, and stuff on a song I did for a guy that wanted a 60's, psychedelic feel. Well, since I was playing that stuff in the 60's, it kinda felt like going home. I'll send ya the track to check out.

Be sure it's set to 1080P. It's wanting to default to 380P here for some reason. Effected drums during lead.

@@Ultimatestudiosinc well thats choked my chicken, i put my vocals through a darkglass fet pedal comp and it outshone my great river pwm, man this is deadly for outboard
Am I the only one thinking everything else except drums need some parallell compression to come forward in the mix? Schepps and CLA use it a lot to make the rest of the instruments pop a lot more. Think the drums is a little bit high!
