  • Guitar pedals can be an effective, and FUN, way to make your drum sounds bigger and more interesting. Overdrive pedals do a great job of adding vibe, character and depth to your drum sounds. In this video I'll demonstrate a few drum mixing techniques using guitar pedals.

    You can also commit on the way in if you don't have a reamp box or use guitar pedal plugins in the box.

    Hey Charlie, love the videos. BTW, I use to have my controller on the right side of my mouse and switched it to the left side of keyboard. That way you can them simultaneously. Made a huge difference.

      I tried that but it drove me crazy being on the left. I've gotten so used to it on the right that it just works.

    Do you need the RAdial EXTC to get this going or could you use any old reamp box -OR, could you possibly do it without a reamping mechanism???

    • @Ultimatestudiosinc
      @Ultimatestudiosinc  2 года назад +2

      You don't NEED the EXTC to get this going but it makes it much easier since it converts the line level signal to instrument level and then BACK to line level all in one box. That is what makes this so convenient.
      You could do it with a regular re-amp box and then go through a D.I.. I've done that a lot when I needed more channels for pedals.
      Yes you can try it without any reamp box. But.....a few issues I've had with that workflow (before I got the reamp boxes). First is making sure the signal you're sending is NOT too hot. Live level signal is significantly louder than instrument level. The next is impedance. Some pedals are very forgiving but I've had lasting humming issues with some pedals and the reamp box erases that issue.

      @@Ultimatestudiosinc Ahhhh... right -That last paragraph. I get it. That's why the Radial is so clutch for this. Okay, I get it... Thank you, my man! I still watch your old AT drum mic tutorials. So helpful! Cheers and best of luck with the new digs! Looks great and you DESERVE IT!!!

    Question: Why don't you do short 20ms-ish delays on your rooms?
    Super tasty trick with the pedals, btw. Tchad Blake would be proud.

    • @Ultimatestudiosinc
      @Ultimatestudiosinc  2 года назад

      I used to do that a lot in the old studio but I don't always like what it does to the kick. I actually prefer short "ambience" type reverbs that don't really have a tail. Create a nice depth.
      Tchad Blake is awesome. His stuff always sounds amazing.

    That is a cool radial box. How are you hooking it up to the desk?

    • @Ultimatestudiosinc
      @Ultimatestudiosinc  2 года назад +2

      It's wired in the patchbay so I can patch it in to any channel I need to. There have been a few questions about this so I'm working on a video on the different ways to use the EXTC.

    • @Ultimatestudiosinc
      @Ultimatestudiosinc  2 года назад

      Delilah is boring in ALL the videos. Lol! Guitar pedals are my new plugins. The character they add to drums can create some really unique sounds and make some boring or plain drums sound cool. Thanks for watching!
