shoutout to the beautiful nine year old for being safe and doing a lovely performance on flat instead of rushing to go up en pointe for competition and potential hurt herself
Sophia Liu which is wise. such a talented girl should not hurt her future for the present. its smart to do the variations and work she can handle en pointe and being honest by returning to a flat shoe when the work is too advanced.
I saw that vid! And when i saw her dance on this vid i did wonder if that was the ballerina from indonesia i saw on the video! She has beautiful technique too

I would just like to comment on the outstandingly talented 15 yr. old ballet artist, Mr. Yuma Matsuura, of Japan (9:27). He has won the Senior Age Division @ the 'Youth America Grand Prix' this year and is set to become a student at 'Britain's Royal Ballet School' this September 2018.. A brilliant ballet star in the making, and continued good luck and good health to him.
i love the little smirk at 9:34, like "eh, you like that, right?" It's nice to see dancers show personality but also reactivity to what is happening around them. It's so easy to get into this zone where you shut everything out, which is not great not just because it can make you rush or late but also because you want to interact with people sharing the stage and the audience, you know? So much better for everyone all around if you are tuned into your surroundings. Some of the other dancers did have that glassy, over-concentrated look to them, and I don't blame them one bit for it, but it's impressive Yuma is able to be so level-headed at this stage in his career. He's only 15!!!
@lar ljd so you say but most of the other contestants had a frozen smile plastered on their face... I agree every dancer should be able to do it but if the majority can't do it, it's still worth commending.
Rebecca ( Indonesia) is incredible! She has a beautiful expression and really beautiful technique as well! The black swan girl looked a lil constipated, I don't think she felt very comfortable at all. Glad to finally see some real talent representing SE Asia :0
It seems odd to me that the girl at 4:49 won first place... she seemed to really struggle with bringing her foot into a correct coupe position (it was overcrossed) and maintaining her turnout while coming down from releve. She also didnt balance very long... makes me wonder if she won because of her good ballet body and feet
I totally agree! I don't think she should have won with that performance. However, she is an amazing dancer... but the other 2 girls that placed below her had cleaner, more technical variations.
@@TristanSimpson Tristan Simpson Alright... i actually said that she has good feet... and honey YAGP doesnt watch classwork, they just watch the variation. And this variation did not deserve a win. I stand by what I said. She did not show strong technique in this variation. Im sure she is an excellent student and performer but in this variation, she did not show clean coupe position or turn out.
@@TristanSimpson HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Does "struggle to bring her foot into a correct coupe position and maintain her turnout" sound like a phrase from someone that doesnt know ballet? I trained ballet from age 6 to age 18, went on to dance with a professional company in my state, and TAUGHT ballet for 3 years before I quit to pursue my college degree. I also competed in YAGP myself for 3 years, and no the judges DID NOT watch the class. But sure, tell me how much more you know about ballet. What I said wasn't incorrect: she DID struggle to find coupe and she DID struggle to maintain her turnout. Frankly even if the rest of the variation was perfect that does not deserve a gold medal! But thanks for your opinion. Bye bye ✌
@@TristanSimpson imagine getting so pressed about someone making a valid observation (you literally cannot deny that she didnt do a proper coupe and that her turnout was not being kept) that you feel the need to attack them. Hope you find your inner happiness soon so that you don't have to put other people down 😊 and btw, dont call me "sweetie." I'm older than you AND taller than you so you have no business calling me a name meant to imply that I'm younger/smaller than you.
9:28 to 9:31. Wow. As a dancer I can say that Starting in the A la seconde turns into the pirouette with the slow stopping while keeping your releve high is hard. It's just hard.
valid Ye it’s an annoying thing people do in competitions. They capitalise their name of their country cos they think it’ll bring more attention to them.
Is it just me who thinks Elizabeth's performance was a bit sloppy for a gold medal? She is a great dancer but she turned in her foot to turn more easily and also didn't develope at the same angle every time...:/ just an opinion
@@giads7110 I think she is a lovely dancer with almost aspect of dance in her favor (ex. turns, musicality, acting, form, gracefulness, etc) and a sweet person as well! I am just saying that THIS specific performance of Grand Pas Classique was not deserving of gold. Have you seen her do Paquita? If she did Paquita I think it easily would be a fair win. I don't know... just my opinion
Her turns were beautiful yes but they weren't controlled enough compared to Senior Gold's plus her landing/ending was wobbly. Even a non ballet dancer could see that.
Girls under the age of 16 should NOT be allowed to perform Odile's variation. If the variation is to be danced in character, and it should, even in a sterile and vapid ballet competition, then the choreography and the suggestive nature of the role is far too adult for eleven year olds to be dancing. Preteens have no business tackling "mature adults" material like Odile. Forgive me for being old fashioned.
what about dances like Latin dance? Many moves are suggestive in nature, but you can't delay training till the moves are appropriate for the young dancers. They just kind of copy what they are told to do without fully understanding it.
J You’re hitting at a subject on which my opinion differs from the vast majority of more permissive and more casual observers. I don’t believe it’s appropriate for young girls to learn highly sexualised dance forms like some types of Latin dance, jazz, or pole dancing. Call me puritanical but young girls aping moves from the more adult side of human experience, regardless of their awareness of the suggestive nature, just seems like making young girls grow up too fast. It also seems just a little creepy. Again, I fully admit that this is just my hang up. In any case, ballet is a great dance form with which to start. Even if you move on to other types of dance when you get older, you will always bring with you the core strength and sense of line that ballet cultivates in you.
Shoutout to Seon Mee Park (7:12) and Guo Wen Jin (8:00) because I really appreciate that they smiled and showed some emotion along with their lovely dancing.
Claudia Venegas , concuerdo contigo es un orgullo ver a un joven mexicano en tan grande evento, sinceramente le deseo un gran éxito en el mundo del ballet
Norma Mimosa technically she was fabulous but a little girl shouldn't be doing something so sophisticated and mature like that... the point of that variation is to seduce. just not appropriate
Yes. Absolutely. Thank you, Ella Luna, for rightly returning the emphasis of this girl's performance to, 'the performance!' Her talent and self-discipline is noted and appreciated.
At 0:35.......The ballet artist whose performance choice is being 'tsk-d' is none other than Ms. BIANCA ANDREEA BADEA! She is the 11 year old talent from Romania, and the 2018 winner of the "Pro Competitive Silver Medal."
me: stunning, gorgeous, young gods walking among us, they are the future of this art. Incredible. Perfection. me, simultaneously: holy shit they're only b a b i e s
I agree.. it's okay for 11 yos to start pointe gently if they have well grown and strong feet but the level these kids are at they must have been training en pointe a while😯😯 they will have very painful feet when they r older probably, I hope they r ok
dancing on its perfectly fine for them to be on pointe. There’s no magical age to start pointe. Beginner pointe dancers also progress faster than some people think. These kids are probably all in some sort of training program where they dance and train everyday. That means they most likely have pointe class everyday and teachers to help train them and hone their skills. Outside of class they probably stretch and strengthen on their own. All of them shown are steady on their feet and that shows that they have the proper strength to go on pointe. Some may also be twelve, because they might’ve had birthdays after YAGP registration.
Okay, I don't really know anything about ballet but 9:27... wow! Doing so many turns without falling on your face is amazing but the way he puts his leg down while still turning was like water! Mesmerising!
No she looks fine actually and a healthy weight (she might not be we never know). Some people have naturally high metabolisms therefore they are naturally skinny. Some people also find it very hard to gain weight. To do ballet you have to be thin anyway (yes I know the pressure to be stick thin to look elegant can lead to eating disorders in ballet ). That said, just please leave people alone regarding their weight because it is nothing to do with you.
CJ I’ve seen and met her in person she’s definitely on the thin side in the dance world but she is healthy. If you compare her with people who are anorexic they don’t have muscles because of how thin they are but Elizabeth has muscle. There could also be lots of factors that make you look more thin than you actually are and while she is still very thin it also might be the lighting or something in this clip. She’s also on the short side so that may also be a factor.
When I was eleven, I already considered it an achievement, to ride my bicycle hands-free...😆 Amazing kids...I wish, I had the drive, to excel n anything like this.
R.C.K Gaming Pointe shoes and just being up on stage makes you look a lot taller than you actually are. The average height for female dancers is only 5’4” to 5’6”
At 8:48, the lovely and exquisite Elizabeth Beyer, at age 15, has deservedly won the Senior Gold Medal. Her strength and poise are outstanding, and her technique near perfection. The training she is receiving is second to none, and it shows! Congratulations, Ms. Beyer!!!! Beautifully done!
Mostly for those of you critiquing the dancers, #1 just remember, They Are Real People; #2 learn the variations (see if maybe that coupe should be crossed O.o); #3 I dare you to try to get that good, instead of hiding behind a computer screen whining about various placings, who does which variations, etc. You should be celebrating how beautifully these people danced and how hard they worked to get where they are now, not pointing out little mistakes that they are probably still beating themselves up about. People a lot more experienced and knowledgeable than I'm assuming the majority of you, placed these dancers. And last but not least, yes, I have done most of these variations, but I guess I'll leave it to you to decide what was a mistake and what wasn't since "youtube viewers" are judge and jury. Feel free to comment/reply but know I won't be reading or responding, I actually have a life.
It’s is so cool how they can do all this stuff, like some people think it’s easy but it’s not there is so much work that goes into this and it’s amazing. The variety of dancers and all their talent is so amazing and it looks so easy and clean😍
Yes being 11 and going on point is dangerous but its no more dangerous then playing soccer or lacrosse and those seem to be acceptable. Just let them be and do what they love.
Raging millennial very ignorant comment. Being crippled with painful arthritic feet by their twenties is reality for children who start pointe to early and are over trained. Children love to dance sure, but at that age they do not understand the risks. Only responsible parents and dance educators do not to damage children’s health for their own glory.
Same. I had the opportunity but decided not to because I was scared of being alone. I was afraid that they wouldn't come back for me. It's so dumb and I hate myself for thinking such a thing about my parents.
I had lessons when i was 6 for 1 summer and i kinda regret not showing interest. I was just scared to perform in crowds. especially since after my first and last performance in a theater as i was exiting i accidentally tripped and i think sprained my ankle😂. Wished i continued.
Seonmee and Wenjin were the absolute best in my opinion. I get that this competition is all about number of pirouettes, but the real ballet world is all about quality, and those two are the girls with the most company potential in my opinion.

Sip
Black swan, such an inappropriate piece for an eleven-year old.
Norma Mimosa technically she was fabulous but a little girl shouldn't be doing something so sophisticated and mature like that... the point of that variation is to seduce. just not appropriate
Are you talking about the girl at 0:35 ?
Yes.
Yes.
All of the dancers are so talented, beautiful, and have so much passion!
me: stunning, gorgeous, young gods walking among us, they are the future of this art. Incredible. Perfection.
me, simultaneously: holy shit they're only b a b i e s
The first girl didn't speak anything and gave a much better performance than a lot of famous actors out there. She will have a great future in ballet.
it makes me sad seeing all of these 11 year olds on pointe
dancing on n
I agree.. it's okay for 11 yos to start pointe gently if they have well grown and strong feet but the level these kids are at they must have been training en pointe a while😯😯 they will have very painful feet when they r older probably, I hope they r ok
dancing on its perfectly fine for them to be on pointe.
My fav is 4:06 and that Giselle variation.
Sameee i love the dress especially when they twirl is so cool and i just love the dance and omhg❤️❤️
My goodness the stage presence on that last young man! And what balance!
5:49
I love how they all do this preparation step before spinning~ I wish I was rich to be able pay for whatever classes I wanted to do...
The women's senior silver medalist was so beautiful. I loved her style.
3:00 i just realized that's Brady Farrar from season 8 of dance moms
日本語で失礼します。
一番初めの女の子妖精が踊ってるのかと思った。本当に美しい。
Antonio Casalinho (Portugal) is the best ! ❤️ He's soooo good !
Okay, I don't really know anything about ballet but 9:27... wow! Doing so many turns without falling on your face is amazing but the way he puts his leg down while still turning was like water! Mesmerising!
Ничего не поняла, но очень интересно...
5:12 his costume tho
Shout out to the 18 year old Korean girl who is so beautiful and has a nice outfit color and also because she danced nicely at 7:05
Good luck! :)
The goal is simple: the one who does the most pirouettes wins
nope
That is what you think
Not true 🙄
no. it's how they execute the dance and if they do a nice job. doing multiple pirouettes is just a step, the way they execute it matters.
Beyer at 8:52 looks painfully thin holy shit
Rhoden at 6:17 . Her arms scared me the most
I look almost just like her and it I am perfectly healthy but it is rude when someone calls you out for your weight just saying
When I was eleven, I already considered it an achievement, to ride my bicycle hands-free...😆
Amazing kids...I wish, I had the drive, to excel n anything like this.
BRADY FROM DANCE MOMS
5:36 hands down the best one
0:36 my contry 😀
Why do i feel like they are taller than me especially the 10 years old (I'm already 12 😂😂)
She looks underweight, I was kind of concerned
Agreed!~
Her performance looked painful
I love your comment sense. I know you won't be responding tho O_O
Thanks! (I was never here)
whos watching this in 2019 when brady farrar is on dance moms?
If only I started ballet when I was younger
Samantha Green same but it was my kind of my parents fault but I love them 😂😭
Same. I had the opportunity but decided not to because I was scared of being alone. I was afraid that they wouldn't come back for me. It's so dumb and I hate myself for thinking such a thing about my parents.
I wish I didn't stop dancing.
Samantha Green Tal vez no sea tarde aún
I had lessons when i was 6 for 1 summer and i kinda regret not showing interest. I was just scared to perform in crowds. especially since after my first and last performance in a theater as i was exiting i accidentally tripped and i think sprained my ankle😂. Wished i continued.
Seonmee and Wenjin were the absolute best in my opinion. I get that this competition is all about number of pirouettes, but the real ballet world is all about quality, and those two are the girls with the most company potential in my opinion.
i did not expect to see brady from dance moms lol
Anyone else watching this because they are bored during quarantine?
damn they did not come to play
Yuma Matsuura holy WOW AMAZING 😮
Y PUM un comentario en español. Que lindo que un paisano haya ganado medalla de oro, enorgullece al ballet mexicano 💕
I don't do ballet, I dont have any interest in ballet, but this was very interesting! thank you youtube recommendations
A menina de vestido azul comprido imitou a Gisele
8:01 omg my last name is jin and i'm a ballet dancer and i'm from china, does that mean we're TWINSSS
