All these old English Electric / Ruston Paxman engines from Vulcan foundry threw some shite out when they were very cold, no wonder the railway had shed men on frost precautions to start the loco’s in cold weather.
clag, flames and explotions, very common in these engines.the problem in the start, with not all the cylinders work. imagine start these loco inside the station!!
makes me laugh,,, how railways get away with murder if that was a truck on the roads you woul be locked up, it makes the emmission laws an absolute joke and thats in London where there is a LEZ zone
Trainmania100 you don't need to tell me I'm a diesel engineer and I can tell you poorly maintained engines start like that the rustons rk engines in those used to be fitted to the fast ferries I worked on we never had issues like that even in sub zero temps and ya missing the point anyhow
if you worked in fast ferries, wouldnt those rustons be warmed through before starting, i work on slow ferrys as a mech engineer officer and we never let ours get cold.
Jon. I've got a 21 year old DAF 55/180 and i'm not allowed in the now extended LEZ (ULEZ) without paying, I think, something like £300 a time. You're right, it's an absolute joke and just a money making scheme, so I don't go inside the M25. Now Bradford and other cities are following suit.

It was very cold this day and most engines produce lots of smoke when they start in very cold temperatures 😉
