  • Lately I've been playing with iridescent paint on the gelli plate. I'm not sure what I'll use it for just yet, but it's interesting. In this video I use only 3 iridescent paints; Iridescent Bronze, Iridescent Pearl and Silver.

    Really enjoyed this and will be experimenting with iridescent paint and interference paint. Just a tip I learned today from Elizabeth St Hilaire - you can totally clean your gel plate so easily with tape. Just put packing tape across the surface and pull it off and it’s totally clean!

      I do that on occasion. It didn't get my plate clean with the iridescent paint though. I haven't quite figured out why it works sometimes and not others. I use hand sanitizer when I want a really clean plate.

      The ghost is the paint that is left on the plate after you've pulled a print. I usually let that dry, then put wet paint over it and then pull the ghost. I plan to do a video on interference paint. But until I do here is a link for Golden's explanation: www.goldenpaints.com/products/colors/interference-iridescent-colors

    • @user-JoReimer
      @user-JoReimer 3 месяца назад

      @@SusanCliftonArtist They are a soft body paint, halfway between heavy body and fluid. I use them on the gel plate a lot, with success. The prices are amazing.. 4 oz of the gold pearlescent is $5.99 vs $23 for a similar Golden fluid. 16 oz of Pyrrole Red is only $22.49 vs $81 for the same amount at Golden. 32 oz. of gloss medium/varnish is $23.49 vs $32.59 for Golden. I can't tell any difference in pigment load. Shipping costs add up but it's still cost effective.

    • @SusanCliftonArtist
      @SusanCliftonArtist  9 месяцев назад +3

      I’ll try to explain. When you are creating all your layers on the plate with just one pull you need to let the paint dry before you add a layer or the colors will blend together. The last layer needs to be wet so you can pull all the layers at once. If you are layering one at a time, pulling each layer then each layer should be wet. I hope that helps.

I'd better hold on to my large plate because I got it for under $20 (Gel Press) about 3 yrs ago. Today, all of the smaller ones are OVER $20. I'll try to get a small one on discount/coupon one day. I can also work with using 1 corner of it sometimes. Been also wanting to try my hand at making some, though my schedule is also clogged with much crafting and arting. Recipes are very simple and quick, though the plates made this way are said to be more delicate and easier to damage. Someone said the recipes including alcohol make more durable plates.
