    I feel like the games overall balance would have been better if they focused on the core 1v1 idea and later introduced kameos. Similar to customs in mk11. As of now the disparity between a “complete character” and a cameo reliant character is highlighted when a when a kameo is not needed to win but still available. Sub zero needs a kameo, his gameplan revolves around their combo extensions to be somewhat competitive. When someone like lui, Johnny or mileena just receive bonuses. If the kameos are balanced in the fact that everyone has access to them, then characters need to be balanced for when kameos are AND aren’t available. Scorpion with his optimal kameo is still weaker than Johnny without one. That gap needs to be fixed by focusing on individual characters, and a 1v1 mode would make sense in that regard.

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  19 дней назад +6

      This is exactly right.
      The characters should have all been made as whole, independent characters to begin with that can all get safe meterless and metered damage. Each of them should have had a particular archetype, like how Johnny Cage is.
      Then, the Kameos would come along and either help boost the effectiveness of each character's archetype or fill in the weaknesses associated with said archetype.
      Currently, we have characters that are independent already like the ones you mentioned. Then, we have Sub-Zero, Tanya and Rain - each of whom are either decent or very strong characters, but otherwise need a Kameo just to get a meterless combo.
      To your other reply where you detailed your conundrum of learning most of the roster in this game, I feel you. In MK11, I learned 13 characters before the game ended. That probably isn't going to happen in this game, unless I commit to only using 1 Kameo with each of them.
      You are not alone!

      @@mrAPchem buff ideas, spread the word
      Nitara: buff her by making her command dash like homelander so for instance all of her normal attack strings that leaves her in the air cost no bar anymore to command dash and it cost no bar when she is in the air command dashing for combos but the next one after that does. and also make fer overhead that leaver her in the air slightly faster. she should also be able plus after hitting her bf2 special allowing her to cameo combo after it. lastly give her back her legacy projectile move back.
      Scorpion: should be buffed by making his amp ground tp a launcher again and make the cancel built in to both his regular and amp tp. buff the amp hellfire move by removing the damage over time and making it function like how it does in mkx allowing him to combo after hitting it. he needs new strings some mix ups(i personally want his mkx overhead back). some moves need to be sped up
      Sub-zero: he needs his attack strings made slightly faster except for his overhead, he also needs 1 or 2 new attack string launchers, both his regular and amp iceball needs to be faster to not only be able to combo with it off of normal attack strings but in juggle combos too. He should have the ability to throw his ice clone, i also think he should have his ice burst special back with the same proporties as mkx to compliment his ice clone(but just does not send you that far away). lastly he needs some of his damage scailing off ground freeze.
      Havoc: He needs at least five new attack strings, he needs his legacy move that titan havoc has were he takes off his head and rolls it but its a mid, has the same affect as reptiles acid ball, and also hits mid exploding on contact. he also needs another one of his legacy moves that again titan havoc has where he bends his hole body for a low projectile and the amp of that can be a knock down allowing for combo extentions for cameos like scorpion
      Quan shi: needs his mind control move from mkx back, and make half his attack strings faster. and finally his low tentacle needs to be one bar
      Raiden: change raiden's b2 back to the mkx launcher but make it as slow as sub'z b2. give him back his vicinity blast move back with the same properties as mkx. Give him back his mkx amp lightning projectile back for combo extentions but have his regular fully charged move have the same proportys as the amp. he also needs to be buffed by making his amp electrocute special launch no matter how many bars he uses
      liu kang: for starters nerf his f4 one button pressure but give him his 113 mkx launcher back along with maybe 2 or 3 more new attack strings to make up for his pressure and to make it less braindead. make his low fireball slightly faster, change his air fireball to the mkx fireball and the amp the one we have now. give him back his mk 11 dragon parry, and finally make his fatal blow start up 2 hits but the first one restands
      kung lao: nerf tf out of his wake up special by making it unsafe af on block. give him back his mkx or 9 spin back but have it have work the same as mk11 so he can use it more than two times in a combo. swap his dive kick now for a mix between his mkx or 9 dive kick. he needs his mkx tp, and his low hat back, but nerf his mix up buttion's he has now by making the overhead follow up slightly slower. give him his mk11 21212 attack string and his mkx 44 launcher attack string back. and also he needs his hat spin.
      Reiko: give him his invasion boss special move, the one is like jades dead butterfly move from mk11 but it launches and he uses his spear(this is already in the game files btw). give this guy at least 1 more special move that involes his knife that's on his person but he never uses for some reason. he needs like 5 new normal attack stings involving his knife and his spear, maybe 2 of them be launchers.
      smoke: give him his smoke cloud move back from mk9, along having it hit low but have the same start up as the one he got now. make his command dash special cancelable anywhere instead of just near yr opponent. also another command dash sending him backwards but the max distance is half screen but he can cancel it at any time during that animation too. and lastly make it easyer to do ground combos after his amp db 4 special.
      Reptile: give him his acid pool amp special move back but make the amp the special and make the amp of that last longer along with his claw swipe move from mk x. give him 3 to 4 attack stings and have at least one be a launcher and at least 2 be for mixup followups. and lastly allow him to move after doing his forceball just a tad bit more almost like how mkx was but just not as broken
      Li mei: 4 or 5 new attack strings, 2 a launchers 1 plus frame one, the rest strings into lows. she needs a new special that let's you command detonate her lantern with one fast motion, fast enuf to do it mid combo. change her base air overhead special hit reaction on airborne opponents, instead of a knockdown it leaves li mei grounded and the opponent in the air allowing for combos like how she could in 3d mk games. also give her back her overhead command special and the amp allow for ground combos. and lastly allow her to be able to combo with one amp projectile grounded and in the air.

      And then once gameplay was released, there were all kinds of ridiculous comments and takes on the game. There are several RUclipsrs who have dedicated the vast majority of their content to hating on MK1, which is not what we saw from MK11 or MKX.
      Of course, none of this negates any of the legitimate issues that MK1 does have, but when people mix in personal gripes along with objective issues, it paints a very dark image of this game, which as you said, has amazing gameplay - the most important part of a fighting game.

    In terms of kitana she is good on her own but another thing I think people criticize the characters on their own is their creativity. So for kitana, for example, bringing her gameplay back as similar as her mkx counter part would make her more interesting. What you showed in her example would make her one dimensional since her fan lift is her only optimal combo starter she needs other combo routes, such as bringing back her fan toss as it used to function able to combo off this would make her stand out even more. If the devs were to do that I could see her combo from her 112 string into the fan toss. I just miss the old school kitana

    First love the outfits for my ladies and I like your ideas and I completely agree that a 1v1 mode would maybe alienate less people if kamoes were optional. Would it be crazy if neutral jump launchers returned which could help create more meterless combos. I primarily play the ladies so I had some ideas for some of them. For Tanya, I would maybe bring back her 2, up3 string from MKX which launches. I would allow her to teleport forward and backwards without needing the buff and have it that you can extend combos when you teleport behind them like in the old days to aid in the meterless damage department. I would also just allow her to have better movement by default. Then the buff should alter the properties of her special moves, like maybe the drill is a low or something to spice things up. I would also like if you could cancel/feint one of her strings like in MKX where you could hold f3 and cancel it and also be able to cancel the teleports. Honestly, this is just to make MK1 Tanya more like Tanya (with her slithering drill/corkscrew kicks, and deceptive fighting style) and give her options in 1v1. If it were up to me she would have her Kobu Jutsu, all her fancy corkscrew kicks, and her sassy/deceptive personality back. I feel like, out of everyone she was done the most dirty with her changes in the new era in terms of her lore and gameplay. But keep up the good work.

      I also play many of the ladies, including Tanya. I am not in favor of porting any of her MKX moves/weapons into MK1, especially not her air teleport because we already have several characters with crazy air movement already. And I'm definitely not in favor of adding more mixup options into the game.
      But giving her some options for launching strings is a great idea.
      I'm actually quite happy with her new persona - instead of her being a do-nothing generic bad guy with an emphasis on sexiness and deception, she's the pious head of Mileena's royal guard and possibly the reason that she got Tarkat to begin with. She didn't have nearly enough dialogue or character build, but we do have Story Mode DLC on the horizon. She has a lot of potential as a character with her pull between loving Mileena and upholding her oath as the head of the Umgadi.

However, I feel like now she is a generic good girl, whereas before she was supposed to be a shining beacon of Edenian virtue yet followed a dark path and it was interesting because she could justify herself as doing what she needed to do to survive. Also her bright fire powers were a nice contrast to her dark personality and fighting style. I felt like her being Umgadi was the perfect scenario to make her a traitor as she could've covered up Jerrod's murder, be resentful of being forced to serve the royal family instead of being free to choose her own path. That could've been better as it would blend the klassic Tanya while making her more sympathetic than before. Also Any ideas for MK1 Sindel. I would love more banshee/scream and hair powers for her as I think that's the only thing MK11 Sindel got right, but that just my opinion. Hope to see more videos soon.

      @mrAPchem  13 дней назад

      @@harveysidhu7030 I'm not sure where you got the idea that Tanya was supposed to be a beacon of Edenian virtue that followed a dark path; that sounds much more like Cetrion.
      She was the daughter of an Edenian ambassador at first but is secretly a follower of Shinnok. Then, after he died, she began following Onaga, only to do nothing and die in Armageddon. Finally in the events of MKX, she finally has some kind of purpose - to fight for a free Edenia - and follows Mileena to that end. Of course, that never happens.
      Now in the New Era, even though her personality is rather bland, she has seemingly already had a major impact on events - causing Mileena to sneak out, which leads to her getting Tarkat. And then, it seems clear that the double-pull between her forbidden romance and the dedication to her duty will be a major fulcrum for her in the future - if NRS decides to make full use of it.
      Tanya's potential in the New Era already supersedes her mostly unsuccessful past in the previous lore. She was certainly edgier back then, but also useless as a bad guy because there were already plenty of bad guys and gals that majored in deception.
      But there is still hope for your desire yet; for all we know, she could still completely be a deceptive mf that is playing Mileena in order to usurp the throne. If that's the case, that's far beyond better than anything she's ever done in an MK game thus far. Great storytelling often takes time.
      But yes, I have many more videos on the way - thanks for watching and commenting on this one.

      @@mrAPchem Sorry for the miscommunication I was being flowery with my language. My interpretation was that because she was the daughter of an ambassador and they focused on diplomacy which is an honourable virtue/value to uphold, she followed a dark path when she engaged in espionage and traitorous/deceptive behaviour. I think the reason why I am annoyed at the changes is because they turn her into a completely different character (more like Jade) and she is (to my knowledge) the only one who has this massive change in direction. I mean most of the cast is still recognizable even when they made their new era changes, but imo Tanya isn't. I also think her evil/deceptive nature isn't a bad trait of the character, and the old stuff isn't that bad but could've been fleshed out more (like her rivalry with Jade). I agree good writing takes time, but uprooting everything that made her who she was wasn't the way to go about it. I do hope she is doing a long con deception (it is my copium headcanon at this point) or she is killed and we get a deceptive Tanya from another timeline. But I really enjoyed this discussion with you. It awesome when you engage with someone who disagrees with you and when we each see and tolerate/understand each other's point of view. I wish you the best of luck 💛💛💛

      @@harveysidhu7030 Oh, I didn't mean to imply that you miscommunicated with me!
      You articulated yourself perfectly well - I just wasn't sure where you got the idea that Tanya represented Edenian virture that was then discarded. There is nothing in any game that makes any note of this. For that matter, there's nothing from the games that implies or insinuates that she has any kind of actual rivalry with Jade either.
      I know that in Deception, Jade sees Tanya with the Dragon King and therefore decides to make sure she dies as a result, subsequently accomplishing that goal in her non-canonical ending. But that is the result of a natural reaction of seeing one of your countrymen betray your home, not another episode of some long-standing unfriendly competition between them. We see that besides that ending, the two of them are never mentioned together again and never even were playable in the same MK again since Armageddon.
      And as far as different characters, yes Tanya was seemingly changed the most. But not by much; Reiko is completely different from his archetype and depiction in MK4 and the MKX comics. He was more reserved, diabolical and had more finesse as a bad guy general. Not now. Also, Li Mei and Mileena got overhauled in their character depiction and lore. And do we even need to mention how Scorpion is not even Hanzo Hasashi anymore?
      Of course, those characters are still relatively similar to their Old Era counterparts in many ways, but they are still radically different than they were before also.
      And I agree with you - Tanya's old lore wasn't bad by any means, but because it was never fleshed out, it had the effect of making her a complete failure of a character that more or less accomplished nothing in the major story. Before MK9, you could tell the entire story of MK without mentioning Tanya (and many others also) and nothing would change; that's a big problem.
      And then after MK9, D'Vorah was basically a much better and consequential version of Tanya: evil, deceptive and power-hungry.
      Given that Tanya's old niche was effectively taken over and didn't lead to her doing anything of note anyway, I see no issue with giving her a new one in this era.
      But once again, I agree with you - good writing is all-important here with every character, especially one so well-loved as Tanya is. If NRS is going to upend her defining traits, then it'd better be well-worth it and lead to something far better, like it did for Mileena or Baraka.
      And yes. it is amazing to discuss areas of disagreement in a productive and civil manner; it's almost as though gamers aren't children after all!!! If we were running the country, things would be much better.

I find it hard to branch out past three very simple characters in mk1. Having to learn a new kameo for a secondary character and building that muscle memory just for a new meta dlc kameo to replace it (khameleon, Janet etc) is aggravating. I don’t want to learn 6 kameos for my main and 1-3 for a secondary and tertiary character. To the point where I’m missing out on currently available content like other fighters because I can’t be bothered to get a phd in mk1 kameos. And I consider myself a more dedicated than the average dedicated casual, someone who prides themselves on game knowledge and at least understanding the cast well. In MK3, we were forced to do dial-in-strings as combos rather than the uppercuts and sweeps we were used to in order to win matches. Also, we were forced to run across the stage rather than walk.
      In MKDA, we were forced to forget everything we ever knew about MK because the entire game was a 3D fighter like Tekken. No uppercuts, sweeps, run button. Barely any juggles, just lots of side-stepping, plus the death of Liu Kang and Shao Kahn.
      In MK9, MKX and MK11, we were forced to use all-new mechanics like the meter system, EX/Meter-burn moves, variations, X-Rays/Fatal Blows and the Breakaway system, just to name a few additions.
      Though it is true that for all that time, MK had remained a 1v1 title, that was about the only constant. Literally everything else about the game had changed - and players were forced to adapt, just like in real life.

      @@mrAPchem by rotten i mean the foundation / core of the game mechanics are bad like how the game handles eg the physics and movement. it plays like injustice not MK because it was originally supposed to be injustice 3 / a super hero assist game but they switched it to MK last minute and its suffering because of it. So it does not feel like MK because the characters fight like over powered rag dolls not martial artists. so even if they add a 1v1 it does not fix the core issue of the bad foundation its built upon. and im posting the comment not just to hate but to address the fact that the kameo system may be disliked but the games issues go far deeper. its a valid point and i think the future of the franchise depends on fans pointing out these things

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  19 дней назад +1

      Kameos only being good for combos in MK1 is objectively false.
      In addition to extending combos, Kameos also give characters zoning options when the don't have them. They also can provide amazing block pressure, help you get away from or move towards your opponent and even serve as a secondary Breaker option. They also anti-air opponents or place them in free-damage, near-unblockable situations.
      Kameos have given MK an entirely new dimension of gameplay that would not fully exist without them.
      I'm simply saying that players should be able to choose whether they want to play with them or not; and I've demonstrated that characters would only need buffs and tweaks to prepare them to function without them.

    You want to know why casual players have given up on this game? Yes, the Kameo system is part of it, but it's not the only reason.
    The monitization in MK1 is unbelievably predatory. This is a full priced game, but the developer and publisher treat it like some free-to-play mobile game where you still have to pay for everything even after shelling out $70 for the game.
    The single player is extremely lacking for a NRS game.
    The main single player mode, Invasions, is a boring frustrating overly grindy slog to play, with very little reward for the time it demands from the player. The rotating towers in this game are not fun either
    The costume designs of the main roster characters are ugly. And people on console don't have the luxury of using mods for cool costumes like the ones in your video. Not everyone can afford a gaming PC. That's why some people game on console.
    The developers pulled a bait & switch with the story. They claimed the game is a reboot, set in an entirely new standalone universe. Only to bring the multiple timelines and multiverse story arc back near the end of the story. People are tired of this multiple timelines multiverse stuff being in every movie, tv show, video game, and comic book now.
    There is no consistent way to earn Dragon Krystals. And it's a overly grindy slog to level up multiple characters.
    The online features and functionality is barebones and behind games that came out 10 years ago.
    There is way too much focus on alternate timeline characters and multiverse events. People are sick of that crap already. I mean hell, they've got Takeda on his way to the game. Takeda! This mofo isn't even supposed to be born yet ffs! Gonna be one hell of an awkward conversation when he encounters Kenshi, HIS DAD! Who is the same age as him due to alternate timelines BS shenanigans.

    The issue with kameos is the fact that you can play like trash then throw out a kameo at the end to make yourself safe and avoid accountability. Kameos should not be allowed to be used on blocked strings. When you make a mistake you should not be rewarded for your failure period.

    • @mrAPchem
      @mrAPchem  16 дней назад +1

      @@Kryo_GTS I see what you're saying, but in so many of those situations, when you play like trash, you lose matches.
      Also, just because a Kameo is thrown out after a move, it doesn't mean you're powerless to stop it, unless the opponent is making sure that it's a true blockstring, in which case, they actuallu aren't playing like trash.
      But as a matter of curiosity, can you provide an example of what you mean?

      @@christianhenry4173 Mortal Kombat is a fighting game; comparing an FG to Fortnite and Marvel Avengers is like comparing Shaq to Allen Iverson and Tracy McGrady - it makes no sense.
      Also, define 'bad treatment'; are you talking about bad press from players or are you referring to a lack of support from its developers?? A fighting game getting hordes of complaints from its fanbase is completely normal and has happened numerous times in the past 30 years in virtually every title. Now, it's MK's turn.
      If those games survived their periods of discontent and went on to thrive later with a fraction of the player base that MK has, then Mortal Kombat will do the exact same thing.
