    Important: You don't need to change the nVidia Control Panel setting to maximum power. Keep it at "Optimal". All maximum power does is keep your max non-boost GPU clock on at all times. So for a 1070 that's ~ 1500 MHz all the time, which causes the card to heat up just sitting at the desktop. Otherwise it steps all the way down to 140 MHz. It makes no difference in games or benchmarks, I tested it. Your clock boosts up while under load anyway.
    My results: EVGA 1070 Founders Edition cannot go above 2000. It stays pretty close though. The maximum overclock I got was +200 GPU and +600 memory. I assume those 2200MHz cards Jay was talking about are aftermarket with higher power delivery. I was surprised at how much performance I gainen. I went from a 5500 to a 6300 score on the 3D Mark Time Spy benchmark. That difference is more than the entire horsepower of the Iris Pro 580 haha.

      When we are testing our overclocks we want it at max power. Afterwards you can put it back to optimal.

    • @QuantumBraced
      @QuantumBraced 8 лет назад +6

      Sure, though it makes no difference during the actual testing. It helps to see the numbers in Precision X and test with K Boost before benchmarking, sure.

      Ehhh well max power actually keeps my overclock stable on games like GTA V and Doom for my 1080. I'll explain: all the benchmarks I tried were able to keep a stable +225 core/+500 memory overclock, including Heaven, Valley and 3DMark's stress test. I made sure to do several tests of more that 1 hour, sometimes even 3 hours. But for some reason whenever I played either GTA V or even Overwatch it kept crashing at random points in time, sometimes 15 mins after I started playing, sometimes after a couple of hours. I even turned the overclock down a lot and it kept crashing still. There was a point when even with no overclock the card crashed in GTA V. So I turned on Max Power on those games and after that the overclock ran smoothly. I don't know why but it seems that the constant fluctuation of the clock caused by Optimal made those games unstable. It could be my card though, but it seems weird cause since then I've never had a crash in a game anymore.

    • @notgonnahappen7899
      @notgonnahappen7899 8 лет назад +13

      Not accurate. It should actually be kept at Adaptive for Global Settings, and for the games you need/want the best overclocking, you set those profiles to Maximum Performance. The Optimal setting has been known to cause all sorts of performance issues and it should never be touched. Adaptive on the Global setting will allow the card to downclock to it's minimum frequency when not in games and dynamically adjust the clock speed as needed when you don't need maximum performance.

    • @kevinuploadingwhatever
      @kevinuploadingwhatever 3 года назад

      It does very little. Maybe a few frames here or there.
      Core clock is where 90% of extra performance comes from
      Memory oc is practically useless unless you are specifically going for records
      It's jus to the icing on the cake

    I'm new to PC, got mine a month ago, and have been watching your videos like crazy, tryin to learn as much as I can. I'm playing Ghost Recon: Wildlands I got a EVGA GTX 1080 SC ACX 3.0 I boosted My GPU Clock offset +100, and the Mem Clock offset +100. My Gpu Clock got 2100 MHz, My memory Clock got 5005 MHz @ 44-50 degrees Celsius My power Target was 115% 83 degrees Celsius, with aggressive fan profile...keep 'em coming. I'm running ultra settings in 4k @ 40-60fps, where I was getting 30-50fps. I'm just starting to stream, and your videos have been extremely helpful teaching this noob the ropes

    I have done the 3 steps in another video that you did. I have a EVGA 1070 FTW Edition, I am not brave enough to do the Clock overset. I have changed the power to 112%, changed the priority to temp to 91 degrees C, and I have adjusted the fan curve. I am hitting 1974mHZ. I am very happy that you did the other video I believe it is called "how to overclock without overclocking." I don't know what the other 1070s are getting but that is just what I have achieved. My temps have climbed into high 60s but not much higher than that.

      +Matt You are extremely arrogant dude. While yes, the FTW has more PWM Phases, and a (slightly) higher factory overclock, it really is not that much better at overclocking then the SC. Exact same cooler, exact same GPU. Maybe you will get a very slight increase OC ability over the SC, but it really isn't big enough to make it "far superior" to the SC, as you say. Do your research before you try to act like you know what you are talking about, or brag about paying $20-$30 more for a card, that is essentially the same as the cheaper version.
