I have always liked Voice Play for their quality, range and inventiveness. On to their Disney medelys. Have you covered Home Free cover of "Helplessly Hoping" or "In the blood"? Both are great examples of simple harmony. Another you might want to watch for the root level of East Texas soul/blues is Johnny and Edgar Winters "Tobacco Road".
Bidding in the Trash Can line was Eli (pronounced L-E). He is their tenor but has a fantastic range and can change his voice depending on what or if a character needs a deferent voice.
I started following Voiceplay a few years ago and had to catch up on the history as well, so I thought I'd give you my take on a recap. The group has been together for decades, starting under the name 4:2:5. They're based near Orlando and several members have some history as Disney cast members. The members in this video are high tenor Earl, tenor Eli (pronounced L-E), baritone J. None, bass Geoff (pronounced Jeff), and beatboxer Layne, who occasionally sings as well. When I first found them, a guy named Tony was the baritone, so you'll see him in earlier videos in the slot that J. None now fills. Layne and Geoff do a lot of the group's arrangements. Earl (he of the laser-tenor) is an original member but has VERY recently left the group and plans for his replacement have not yet been announced. They often have guest vocalists, Rachel Potter being a recurrent favorite. Most of their videos tend to have a visual theme, but their covers of movie tunes and Disney songs are usually more theatrical. During quarantine, they released a zoom choir style video called Just Sing which features many of the group's previous members and some of their guests, as well as a cameo by Tim Foust of Home Free. It's subtitled with all the names. Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay all appeared on the TV show The Sing-Off. Those three along with a larger ensemble called Voctave are really the Big 4 of professional acapella. (BTW, Voctave is an experience not to be missed also, especially their Christmas music.)
Forgot to mention Peter Hollens among the professional acapella-ists, although he isn't in a group, he's a group all by himself. He sings multiple lead and harmony parts and layers them together, and he also uses a lit of theatrical production. He has collaborated with many guest artists, particularly Avi of Pentatonix and Tim of Home Free.

the guy at 6:16 "He's got a very high voice",= It's rather fitting that he's playing Behemoth (big guy in overalls) as there's a cut scene from the movie that has Behemoth (misspelling?) actually sings while the monsters are making Christmas presents, it was a nice voice too.

I'm so glad you got to enjoy more of VoicePlay so soon! And... well, that I got to enjoy you getting to see more of it so soon, as well XD I can't say that they get this theatrical on _all_ of their videos, but I can say that they really do excel at it, and have for years. Their take on the Phantom of the Opera was their first real foray into that, if I remember correctly. They do have more... I don't know, almost... intimate videos, where it's really just the five of them singing a piece. I Can't Help Falling in Love With You would be a fine example of that. They've also got their part work series, which was (usually) two of the singers doing a song layered to round out the crew. Love Yourself is a good example of that. Still, when they have one of the members move on from the group (as Earl recently did), they'll cycle through guest singers ("featuring ___") until they find someone who's the right fit for the group. Like after Tony had left the group in 2016, they had quite the range of artists, and had four or five videos "featuring JNone" before... they stopped "featuring" him and just had him as a standing part of the group. They've already started the process following Earl's departure... though their first song after that was just the four remaining members singing The Heart of Life... and that video is heartbreakingly beautiful... especially knowing that it was after his departure. Also, speaking of featured artists, I highly recommend the video for Just Sing, which brings back many former members and former collaborators (along with a few that they haven't worked with directly before). Very uplifting, especially for the time that it came out. In any event, I shall not relent in suggesting Jonathan Young's Sound of Silence! Not to be 'that guy'... but, hey, at least I have things to say beyond _just_ that, right? XD 🎃 And I make sure to get the emoji ^_^

They do a lot of theatrical style videos. They did come out with a new video yesterday that's the "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" song with Rachel Potter, very well done. One of the guys in this video and the Oogie Boogie video, Earl, he was the one that turned blue in this video, left the group back in July, so they're down to 4 members and been doing some more videos with guest vocalists. I too didn't know them till I came across a reaction video of their oogie boogie song a little over a month ago.

Great reaction. VoicePlay is my favorite group & I really hope to see you react to more of their videos. Many of them are very theatrical although even those that aren't are still amazing since their singing/harmonies, etc. are still out of this world. I believe others already mentioned this but they just released another song from Nightmare Before Christmas "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" yesterday so you might want to check it out. Also, Geoff's solo version of The Headless Horseman is fantastic. If you want to hear everyone separately a good choice is Queen in 5 minutes which showcases Earl's (blueish guy in this video) high range quite well. 🎃

Quite honestly I have not watched your Home Free or Pentatonix videos as I am limited in my free time and I don't enjoy either of those groups as much as I enjoy VoicePlay & Geoff Castellucci. I am a Patreon of both VP & Geoff and feel they are very underrated compared to Home Free & PTX so I pretty much just advocate for them.
Every time you mention “Juilliard ”, all I can think of is that attending it was one of Beetlejuice’s qualifications ( along with graduating from Harvard business school, traveling quite extensively, living through the Black Plague, seeing the Exorcist a 167 times, and being a dead guy ). Maybe it’s just because Beetlejuice and Nightmare are both Tim Burton creations!

I only recently stumbled on Voice Play, most of my a cappella experience had come from Glee and Pitch Perfect. It’s not really my genre, I lean more towards instrumentals ( I played the trumpet, and currently play the bagpipes), but I’m starting to find it more enjoyable. I will definitely check out your reactions to the other groups as well.

Can't get over most of the reaction videos to Voiceplay. Almost without fail in their latest 'Hoist The Colours' from the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 movie, there was total silence for a good few seconds from every reaction video. It was really THAT good, their variation on the song and the harmonics they used are awesome.
@@maggiereneemusic Yes, every time Geoff sings those low notes the reaction was quite predictable though. I would love to hear more reaction to the harmonics and arrangement in general. The voiceplay group are very well matched and compliment each other so well, it's not surprising that they've won awards for it. Oogie Boogie is quite old now and the members have changes since, but the latest ones are the best yet. I hope they manage to stay together for a long time.

I'm sure someone did it but I'm too lazy to read comments right now. So the lead singer in this piece and the one who turns into the mayor character is Eli (E-lie). He's the main tenor. The black man who turns into the werewolf is J. None, he's a baritone. He just recently joined Voiceplay as a perm member, he use to guest star in their videos a lot before though. The tenor is Earl, he's the one who gets the axe in his head, sadly Earl left Voiceplay a few months ago and we still miss his sweet voice. No new tenor has taken his place yet though. The beat boxer and devil in this video is Layne. He usually only gets a line or two in the videos but they're almost always funny ones! lol As you learned from Oogie Boogie the bass is Geoff, who of course is the vampire in this one. He's one of the main reason I think people hear about Voiceplay, lol his octave range is insanely entertaining. He also has his own RUclips channel where he sings solo and alsos teaches a bit about singing bass. I highly recommend his Blackbird cover from the Beattles. Displays his range beautifully. Okay I know that Halloween is over, but I'm still in denial and still is Voiceplay. lol So I recommend the video they posted just recently which is again from Nightmare before Christmas, but is the minions singing Kidnap Mr. Santy Claws! Hehe It's hilarious!

An old video of theirs that you might be interested in is their ACA Top 10 Broadway. (it was done before Hamilton took off so not on the list unfortunately). That video does have a slightly different group in it, but is still a really fun one.

They do a Halloween video every year. And yes, they get this elaborate every single time. Earl Elkins -- the man with the beard; he is sadly no longer with the group -- once said that, being a big, hefty man, people expect him to be the bass, but he's not, he's the high tenor and it surprises people. So one more time if you'll permit me, the members of the group in this video are: Earl Elkins, high tenor as mentioned. He turned into the axe victim. Jesse "J" None, baritone. He turns into a werewolf. Eli Jacobson, tenor. He turned into Halloween Town's swollen-necked mayor. Geoff Castellucci, bass. Vampire. Layne Stein, vocal percussion and baritone. He turned into the devil. As I said, Earl has since left the group. They haven't replaced him, having decided to continue with four members. That said, Rachel Potter has done so many amazing collaborations with them -- check out their Moana Medley, their Little Mermaid medley, their cover of "Phantom of the Opera," their cover of "Kidnap the Santy Claus" and others -- that a lot of their fans are screaming at them to just recruit her full time already. @@maggiereneemusic I did indeed, but I'll admit that as much as I like both of them, IMHO Voiceplay is the better of the three for their theatrics and attention to detail. Not a hard sell being for a theater major, so it's not saying all that much.
Hi, the beat boxer is Layne (Laine?), and in an interview he was in, he said they were on set from 7AM until 11:30PM because of make up and costume changes. oh and the little boy is Layne's nephew.

Often they are this elaborate. Not all the time, but it doesn't really need it all the time either. You will likely enjoy their Little Mermaid medley, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Queen in 5 Min, Boy Bands in 5 Min, and Phantom of the Opera. All their other stuff is good as well, but those stand out particularly to me as a classically trained singer myself as being performances that really showcase their talent.

Excellent as always. I love seeing how much fun you have with these videos. Speaking as a person who tends to be rather subdued in my own personal reactions to things, it's fun to watch more animated people react. Yes, they tend to be rather elaborate in their videos. They have have some great songs with guest singers, particularly Rachel Potter. She's a guest vocalist on several of their videos including another song cover from this movie: Kidnap the Sandy Claws. Another good and elaborate one from them would be "Phantom of the Opera".
Another costume one you'd LOVE is Phantom of the Opera! Ft. Rachel Potter, of course! She's a super talented disney-like tonality! I love this group so much (Also I'm a bass so Geoff makes me smile)

Yes they are awesome. Not every video is as elaborate as this one. They all have incredible ranges. Eli can drop down and cover the bass in live shows when Geoff is singing lead. J. None can hit some sweet tenor range notes and does so in their Little Mermaid Medley. We don’t get to hear it much but Layne (beatboxer) also has a baritone/tenor range. Both Lane and Geoff Do the various arrangements and Eli, Layne, and Geoff trade off on the video editing. Earl(bearded guy) left the group sometime in 2020 and he is a very awesome high tenor.

Nice reaction Maggie! Aren't they great as well as hilarious? They don't dress up for every video but they are always having fun, making faces at each other etc🤣🤣🤣 I love them so much. Eli (pronounced Ellie, the one with the glasses) has a beautiful voice and can change it up anyway he likes! I wouldn't be surprised if he works as a voice actor as well. Erl the high tenor (blue guy) has a voice like a laser beam, when Mitch's voice I think is more like a caress.🙂

Eli- Known for his riffs and runs and silky smooth voice, is bald , sings tenor 2 ,has probably the most versatile voice (pronounced Ellie, 2010-present)
J.None - the guy with the top knot and brilliant falsetto , baritone of the group (2018- present)
Layne - provides the beat and surprisingly has the widest range of the bunch ,sometimes sings baritone when the beat isn’t required (1997-present)

I have always liked Voice Play for their quality, range and inventiveness. On to their Disney medelys. Have you covered Home Free cover of "Helplessly Hoping" or "In the blood"? Both are great examples of simple harmony. Another you might want to watch for the root level of East Texas soul/blues is Johnny and Edgar Winters "Tobacco Road".

Bidding in the Trash Can line was Eli (pronounced L-E). He is their tenor but has a fantastic range and can change his voice depending on what or if a character needs a deferent voice.

I started following Voiceplay a few years ago and had to catch up on the history as well, so I thought I'd give you my take on a recap. The group has been together for decades, starting under the name 4:2:5. They're based near Orlando and several members have some history as Disney cast members. The members in this video are high tenor Earl, tenor Eli (pronounced L-E), baritone J. None, bass Geoff (pronounced Jeff), and beatboxer Layne, who occasionally sings as well. When I first found them, a guy named Tony was the baritone, so you'll see him in earlier videos in the slot that J. None now fills. Layne and Geoff do a lot of the group's arrangements. Earl (he of the laser-tenor) is an original member but has VERY recently left the group and plans for his replacement have not yet been announced. They often have guest vocalists, Rachel Potter being a recurrent favorite. Most of their videos tend to have a visual theme, but their covers of movie tunes and Disney songs are usually more theatrical. During quarantine, they released a zoom choir style video called Just Sing which features many of the group's previous members and some of their guests, as well as a cameo by Tim Foust of Home Free. It's subtitled with all the names. Pentatonix, Home Free and Voiceplay all appeared on the TV show The Sing-Off. Those three along with a larger ensemble called Voctave are really the Big 4 of professional acapella. (BTW, Voctave is an experience not to be missed also, especially their Christmas music.)
Forgot to mention Peter Hollens among the professional acapella-ists, although he isn't in a group, he's a group all by himself. He sings multiple lead and harmony parts and layers them together, and he also uses a lit of theatrical production. He has collaborated with many guest artists, particularly Avi of Pentatonix and Tim of Home Free.

I'm so glad you got to enjoy more of VoicePlay so soon! And... well, that I got to enjoy you getting to see more of it so soon, as well XD I can't say that they get this theatrical on _all_ of their videos, but I can say that they really do excel at it, and have for years. Their take on the Phantom of the Opera was their first real foray into that, if I remember correctly. They do have more... I don't know, almost... intimate videos, where it's really just the five of them singing a piece. I Can't Help Falling in Love With You would be a fine example of that. They've also got their part work series, which was (usually) two of the singers doing a song layered to round out the crew. Love Yourself is a good example of that. Still, when they have one of the members move on from the group (as Earl recently did), they'll cycle through guest singers ("featuring ___") until they find someone who's the right fit for the group. Like after Tony had left the group in 2016, they had quite the range of artists, and had four or five videos "featuring JNone" before... they stopped "featuring" him and just had him as a standing part of the group. They've already started the process following Earl's departure... though their first song after that was just the four remaining members singing The Heart of Life... and that video is heartbreakingly beautiful... especially knowing that it was after his departure. Also, speaking of featured artists, I highly recommend the video for Just Sing, which brings back many former members and former collaborators (along with a few that they haven't worked with directly before). Very uplifting, especially for the time that it came out.
In any event, I shall not relent in suggesting Jonathan Young's Sound of Silence! Not to be 'that guy'... but, hey, at least I have things to say beyond _just_ that, right? XD 🎃

They do a lot of theatrical style videos. They did come out with a new video yesterday that's the "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" song with Rachel Potter, very well done. One of the guys in this video and the Oogie Boogie video, Earl, he was the one that turned blue in this video, left the group back in July, so they're down to 4 members and been doing some more videos with guest vocalists. I too didn't know them till I came across a reaction video of their oogie boogie song a little over a month ago.

Great reaction. VoicePlay is my favorite group & I really hope to see you react to more of their videos. Many of them are very theatrical although even those that aren't are still amazing since their singing/harmonies, etc. are still out of this world. I believe others already mentioned this but they just released another song from Nightmare Before Christmas "Kidnap The Sandy Claws" yesterday so you might want to check it out. Also, Geoff's solo version of The Headless Horseman is fantastic. If you want to hear everyone separately a good choice is Queen in 5 minutes which showcases Earl's (blueish guy in this video) high range quite well. 🎃

Quite honestly I have not watched your Home Free or Pentatonix videos as I am limited in my free time and I don't enjoy either of those groups as much as I enjoy VoicePlay & Geoff Castellucci. I am a Patreon of both VP & Geoff and feel they are very underrated compared to Home Free & PTX so I pretty much just advocate for them.
Honestly, I love the harmony that VoicePlay does in their Mr. Blue Sky video, it's one of my favorites.

Every time you mention “Juilliard ”, all I can think of is that attending it was one of Beetlejuice’s qualifications ( along with graduating from Harvard business school, traveling quite extensively, living through the Black Plague, seeing the Exorcist a 167 times, and being a dead guy ). @@maggiereneemusic I had seen your reaction to Voice Plays Oggie Boogie song, but not the others. I only recently stumbled on Voice Play, most of my a cappella experience had come from Glee and Pitch Perfect. It’s not really my genre, I lean more towards instrumentals ( I played the trumpet, and currently play the bagpipes), but I’m starting to find it more enjoyable. Can't get over most of the reaction videos to Voiceplay.
Almost without fail in their latest 'Hoist The Colours' from the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 movie, there was total silence for a good few seconds from every reaction video. It was really THAT good, their variation on the song and the harmonics they used are awesome.

@@maggiereneemusic Yes, every time Geoff sings those low notes the reaction was quite predictable though. I would love to hear more reaction to the harmonics and arrangement in general. The voiceplay group are very well matched and compliment each other so well, it's not surprising that they've won awards for it.
Oogie Boogie is quite old now and the members have changes since, but the latest ones are the best yet. I hope they manage to stay together for a long time.

I'm sure someone did it but I'm too lazy to read comments right now. So the lead singer in this piece and the one who turns into the mayor character is Eli (E-lie). He's the main tenor. The black man who turns into the werewolf is J. None, he's a baritone. He just recently joined Voiceplay as a perm member, he use to guest star in their videos a lot before though. The tenor is Earl, he's the one who gets the axe in his head, sadly Earl left Voiceplay a few months ago and we still miss his sweet voice. No new tenor has taken his place yet though. The beat boxer and devil in this video is Layne. He usually only gets a line or two in the videos but they're almost always funny ones! lol As you learned from Oogie Boogie the bass is Geoff, who of course is the vampire in this one. He's one of the main reason I think people hear about Voiceplay, lol his octave range is insanely entertaining. He also has his own RUclips channel where he sings solo and alsos teaches a bit about singing bass. I highly recommend his Blackbird cover from the Beattles. Displays his range beautifully.
Okay I know that Halloween is over, but I'm still in denial and still is Voiceplay. lol So I recommend the video they posted just recently which is again from Nightmare before Christmas, but is the minions singing Kidnap Mr. Santy Claws! Hehe It's hilarious!

Highly recommend their Queen and Panic! At The Disco medleys! Those, along with their AcaTopTen compilations are really good and are some of my favs!

An old video of theirs that you might be interested in is their ACA Top 10 Broadway. (it was done before Hamilton took off so not on the list unfortunately). That video does have a slightly different group in it, but is still a really fun one.

Earl Elkins -- the man with the beard; he is sadly no longer with the group -- once said that, being a big, hefty man, people expect him to be the bass, but he's not, he's the high tenor and it surprises people.
So one more time if you'll permit me, the members of the group in this video are:
Earl Elkins, high tenor as mentioned. He turned into the axe victim.
Jesse "J" None, baritone. He turns into a werewolf.
Eli Jacobson, tenor. He turned into Halloween Town's swollen-necked mayor.
Geoff Castellucci, bass. Vampire.

As I said, Earl has since left the group. They haven't replaced him, having decided to continue with four members. That said, Rachel Potter has done so many amazing collaborations with them -- check out their Moana Medley, their Little Mermaid medley, their cover of "Phantom of the Opera," their cover of "Kidnap the Santy Claus" and others -- that a lot of their fans are screaming at them to just recruit her full time already.

@@maggiereneemusic I did indeed, but I'll admit that as much as I like both of them, IMHO Voiceplay is the better of the three for their theatrics and attention to detail. Not a hard sell being for a theater major, so it's not saying all that much.

Hi, the beat boxer is Layne (Laine?), and in an interview he was in, he said they were on set from 7AM until 11:30PM because of make up and costume changes. oh and the little boy is Layne's nephew.
idk if you figured that out yet but the high tenor in this video (Earl, green zombie) left the group not long ago, that's why he's not mentioned on the website

Often they are this elaborate. Not all the time, but it doesn't really need it all the time either. You will likely enjoy their Little Mermaid medley, Kidnap the Sandy Claws, Queen in 5 Min, Boy Bands in 5 Min, and Phantom of the Opera. All their other stuff is good as well, but those stand out particularly to me as a classically trained singer myself as being performances that really showcase their talent.

Excellent as always. I love seeing how much fun you have with these videos. Speaking as a person who tends to be rather subdued in my own personal reactions to things, it's fun to watch more animated people react.
Yes, they tend to be rather elaborate in their videos. They have have some great songs with guest singers, particularly Rachel Potter. She's a guest vocalist on several of their videos including another song cover from this movie: Kidnap the Sandy Claws.
Another good and elaborate one from them would be "Phantom of the Opera".

Not every video is as elaborate as this one.
They all have incredible ranges. Eli can drop down and cover the bass in live shows when Geoff is singing lead. J. None can hit some sweet tenor range notes and does so in their Little Mermaid Medley. We don’t get to hear it much but Layne (beatboxer) also has a baritone/tenor range.
Both Lane and Geoff Do the various arrangements and Eli, Layne, and Geoff trade off on the video editing.
Earl(bearded guy) left the group sometime in 2020 and he is a very awesome high tenor.

Nice reaction Maggie! Aren't they great as well as hilarious? They don't dress up for every video but they are always having fun, making faces at each other etc🤣🤣🤣 I love them so much.
Eli (pronounced Ellie, the one with the glasses) has a beautiful voice and can change it up anyway he likes! I wouldn't be surprised if he works as a voice actor as well.
