    I live just downstream from there.
    Right where you anchored, there is a power plant.
    One day, I was programming the pH controller of the ash-pond overflow system and had a power plant worker putting a few ounces of green tracer into the intake pipe so we could measure the water's time in the pipe. As he was doing this, he accidentally knocked over the whole 5-gallon container and it all sucked right into the intake pipe.
    All we could do was watch the entire Meramec River boil up bright green all the way to the Mississippi and then make a miles long bright-green cloud as it progressed downstream.
    By the time the Coast Guard came to investigate, I had made sure I was far gone from there.

    10:13 Kathy’s giggle cracked me up when you said what an engineer phenomenon the lock was. Another great video and the music is killer.

    I had to laugh at the location you anchored. I was commenting in your last video "If you happen to notice this little river" Well, I guess you did! It's just been a joy to watch your travels right thru my back yard and on the rivers I grew up on.
    Thanks again for letting us all along side!!

    I'm loving traveling with you folks on this adventure! I can't wait until it's our turn. I will be at the helm, and hubby is engineer and lines. This one makes me glad of that. Kudos to Kathy out there for so long!!!

    Love the videos. I watched them all in about a week. I am planning on the loop with the wife in a few years. Show some breakfast and dinners you make on the hook. Stay safe.

    Learned to water ski at the confluence. Pretty intimidating when you're in those waters. The Meramec was called the river of death by early pioneers.

    You ended this video and section in my hometown...Arnold. :) From reading previous comment, I saw that you are about a month behind on videos. Wish I would have found your channel sooner, I could have offered ahead of time to come pick you up for dinner and a cocktail. A mile or so up river on the Meramec, there's a small boat ramp at the Telegraph Rd. bridge, called Flamm City, that would have been easy to dingy over to. Anyway, a little personal connection for me, you tying up 10 minutes from where I grew up. Another good video. Safe travels!

    That bridge in Alton was built not long ago and PBS made a special out of it on the construction of the bridge and it was very interesting. I say not long ago time passes quickly

    Looks darned cold…although “real feel” here in Northern Michigan last week was about zero degrees, so be glad you weren’t here! (BTW, you can go ahead and talk about real feel and wind chill all you want - your response to the person who didn’t like it was very diplomatic. 😊)

      Hahaha! Thank you Greg! This is my first winter not in Michigan. I am trying to avoid snow at all costs and stay in shorts for the winter months. It is a silly goal, but I am sticking to it! Thanks for following along, and thanks for the great comment! Cheers!

    You guys are doing a great job with the videos. We are planning our trip, will be a few more years of work but time sure does tick by fast. I know you talked about your fuel burn rates in an earlier video, wondering what your fuel costs are running so far?

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  7 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words! It is great that you are planning your trip! It will fly by and before you know it you will cast the lines! We have about +/-600 miles behind us to Arnold MO. Burning an average +/-9 GPH at an average of 8.8kts for about +/-65 hours. We are finding fuel at around $4.90 gal to $5.50 gal. I hope this helps! Strongly recommend taking your boat out and documenting fuel burn rate at every 10 RPM and log speed at those RPMS. Thank you! Best of luck!

    You have the bridges wrong in your narration, the new one is the Stan Musial bridge

      Thank you! Yes, you are correct. I found the issue. Our charts did not have the Stan Musial Bridge shown, not even drawn on the chart! I updated the chart and it now shows the bridge, but with no info. No name, no height. etc. Thank you for pointing this out. It is important to note that about the charts, I'm sure others will find it helpful. I appreciate it! 😀👍

    How do you heat the cabin at night?

    • @peterandersen8684

      Those boats have reverse cycle HVAC heating and air conditioning (or even portable space heaters) when the generator is running

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  7 месяцев назад

      Great question! When on dock power we use the HVAC units. We have 4. Salon, Master Stateroom, Guest Stateroom, and Bridge...or a small space heater to take the edge off. While on the hook we run the generator for short periods of time and run the HVAC unit to bring the temp up, or we can use space heaters for short periods of time while on house batteries. Space heaters take up a lot of battery juice, but sometimes just a few minutes is all it takes to knock the chill off. Also extra layers and sometimes our dog Ollie help to warm things up! Thank you for watching and the great comment! 😀

    Willl you please stop this 'real feel' nonsense and just say the damn temperature!? There is no wind chill when you are down in a lock.

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  7 месяцев назад

      lol, maybe its a Michigan thing! All I know is it was COLD! :) Thank you for watching!

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you for the kind words! We appreciate you following along. We prefer "real feel" because it is an accurate representation of what we will feel, on our skin, and have to prepare for, as we are handling lines or out in the elements on deck. It gives the viewer and accurate representation of what we are dealing with at that moment. What does it matter if the air temp is 40 if the real feel is 19...we need to prepare for 19, not 40...get it? You are 100% incorrect about no wind chill in a lock. That is absolutely not true. In fact, if the wind is directly at the bow or at the stern in a lock it can actually intensify the wind chill as it comes through in a wind tunnel effect. This happened to us in 2 different locks. Thanks for watching and the positive comments!
