I could never have better words, you’re indeed right👌, a french guy who tells, believe me 😉🙏 (Mike-the-bike’s also in my top 3 best pilots of all time).
Barry Sheene was a 'rock star' , i was a teen when he raced in Malaysia for Yamaha, he had lots of charisma besides race skill. He is a true embassodor for the sport. Daring,sporting,handsome,rugged,cheeky,witty...he had everything!! R.I.P. my hero.
Barry got me into watching GP moto racing. His style of commentary on the Australian TV channels was more than engaging. Such a likeable lad who is sorely missed.
A very special person taken far too young brought Motorcycles into the mainstream and made them great we will always be grateful to one of the first goats
I’m 62 now, was absolutely gutted to hear he was so ill & I was properly choked upon his death, so incredibly unfair. He and his family deserved many more years.
Always in good spirits even through cancer. He was a good man and, oddly enough, a humble person. That made him lead his glory days with all that glamour: he knew he was just an ordinary bloke from Britain and decided he'd eat it all through and through, cos it was his life's lucky chance.
We schoolboys idolised Barry in the 70's, and I was lucky enough to watch him contest the Transatlantic Trophy against Kenny Roberts in about '79 or '80, at Brands Hatch. However, this is a film I will watch over and over again, thank you so much for uploading.
I enjoyed that race as much as any I have ever watched, is was edge of the seat stuff, big shout out for Wayne too, he was one of my fav's back then, with Schwantz etc! Without Wayne it would have been a walk in the park for Bazza! I hope wherever you are it is as much fun as you had here on earth Barry! All the best to a true sporting hero!
Sad to see Barry go "under the Chequered flag" so young. Motorbikes knocked him about but the smoking finished him off! I interviewed Barry after his first Grand Prix year. He won the 125cc race in Finland, but he also burnt down the disgusting toilet block. He said, "At the prize presentation 'l got the biggest cheer, and I still don't know if I got it for winning the race or burning the bogs down!" Looking forward to your return Barry, after Armaggedon. R.I.P. means Resurrection In Paradise. Bible's promise in John 5:28, 29. Alan Peck 🐴
The name says it all "Barry Sheene" a legend RIP. The older motor cyclists equ of Valentino Rossi. He attracted the crowds and TV audiences which helped to make motor cycling what it is today.
Barry Sheene was my childhood hero. He came from a time in sport when the stars were real and approachable. I feel sorry for today's youth, where the so called stars such as Valentino Rossi are nothing more than gurning posuers.
Oh yes i remember that win in Sweden, I was 19 and couldn't wait to get MCN to expand on the one paragraph in the daily paper. Like you I was a Ron fan, he was a little unfortunate to be on the scene with Kenny, Barry, Eddie Lawson, Freddie, Rainey and co. We might as well accept we will not see the likes of Barry again. Thank goodness we were at the right place at the right time to enjoy those great days ...they really were great!
Ronmight have done a lot better if he learned that to win .you need to finish . and to finish you have to stay on the bike .and not keep over riding and throwing it up the road ,
Such a pity the late and great Barry is not with us..he was such a character and no matter what, helped the sport..and well done Mr Gardner.. The nearest l can see today would Troy Bayliss...another great character... We miss these racers..
As a kid, I put a no.7 on all my pushbike. I loved it when Murray Walker announced that he was "saluting " Kenny Roberts. When he was giving him a two finger gesture. What a guy.
Great to see so many good riders out enjoying themselves so much on these fantastic old bikes. RIP Barry, you were right up there amongst the very best. Thanks for posting this - it's brought back many happy memories - I was out this morning, taking the Guzzi upto 8k in every gear no problem, pity about the lack of damping at front did'nt used to bother me - must be getting Old. Or something.
I hate cancer and the misery it brings to so many, Barry loved a smoke, so much so, that he actually had a hole drilled into his helmet so he could smoke right up till the race started.....Sooner or later, the cancer was going to strike....Brilliant sportsmen and sadly missed...RIP Barry
Plenty of people die from Lung and Esophagus Cancer that never smoked a day in their life... It could just be sniffing all the 2 stroke oil and high octane gas for 40 years. Just genetics seems cruel who gets what....
Even the name Barry Sheene takes me right back to my childhood obsession. I'd ask for Barry's book for Christmas and read it cover to cover. I once had a great compliment from some copper. I was stopped on my CBX and before he realised I wasn't a boy he said 'Who do you think you are, Barry Sheene. We heard you coming all the way from Market Drayton.' 😂 My own racing career was cut tragically short when I moved out of my parents and couldn't afford to race my old TZ 350A 😭
What an incredible rider Sheene was and what a wonderful gentleman as indeed Wayne Gardner was as well-Great fun for Barry as he showed patience and determination for the opportunities to comes his was and took them. A sign of a true Champion.
i remember gardener racing at griffith short track with his under age red number plate in aussie land back i the 1970's we knew then he would be world champion how time flys .. skeatesy
I met barry twice, he bought me and my mate a pint at the Gatwick hotel in 1981 ,we asked him for his autograph and offered to buy him a beer but he got us one instead,we didn't overstay our welcome I think he was after a bit of cunt , good on him rip mate
LoL. Everyone knew no matter what they said they would race competitively. About halfway through they turned it up and smoked everyone and found each other on track, battling again. Good race * _ *
Motorcycle driver and my heart ,,, young is you who made me love the bike, And every time I ride my bike I can not help but have a thought for you and I ' Take me along the road and in my heart
The whole motorcycling community all over the world miss you Barry. Pure entertainer.
Been re-watching some Barry Sheene uploads recently, im in! Barry Sheene was my Childhood, a household name. Miss you Barry Sheene
Barry Sheene was the greatest motorcycle racer of all time. A really nice guy and so very English. I still can't believe he is gone.

Really sad him saying at 0,26 " I can,t die of cancer he promised his children" my child hood hero.
Scoot.Mine and my brothers childhood hero too. I am 53. My brother51.
Lung cancer?
I’m 62 now, was absolutely gutted to hear he was so ill & I was properly choked upon his death, so incredibly unfair. He and his family deserved many more years.
Childhood hero. I still have my little die cast model of his bike. Still write my 7’s with the cross bar, still like Brut. Thank you Barry. Legend

how typical of Bazza to win his final race even with terminal cancer, and against the magnificent Wayne Gardner. Lifetime hero
Poor Barry he died hard.
That's why he looks like is 60. I still remember him smoking a cigarette in the hospital, with one leg in plaster. so many years ago.
Six months later Barry was dead… he was my hero as a kid
He still is mine.....RIP Barry

4:58 Made me laugh to see Barry Sheene give Wayne Gardner the 'Vs' Not just motorbiking talent missed, that era of humour is missed too.
Great race from a pair of genuine legends.
Never to be replaced,,,

Glory till the end . x
I was a regular at FOS but never made it to the revival, I wish I had. I was there to see him at Donny tho.

Well said MotoGP46. You are obviously a true friend of the family and of the sport. Do you think we will ever have another British World Champion?

'Avin' a go at it. Keep the knees in, lads, and let your toes be the kerb feelers.
Just watching this... I went with my dear mate Gaz. What a day. Gaz was killed on his bike some time after. I'm smiling & watching .
No disrespect to the others, but it seemed that Sheene and Wayne just decided about half way through "alright time to push" and just went all out.
Big of Gardener to let Barry win Respect
